SPECULATION Rey's staff. Just a staff? More than just a staff?

i'm willing to wager that it's anything but a saberstaff. EVEN if snoke happens to be plagueis (which i don't think is true), i'm doubting this staff of rey's is his lightsaber. the character's staff isn't even canon for crying out loud, i have no clue why this rumor even started. the only canon information about plagueis is the short tale that palpatine tells anakin during the opera scene in RotS. do i think perhaps that her familiarity with the staff and/or potential force-sensitivity may allow her to build and wield a dual-bladed saber throughout the trilogy? absolutely. but i'll say it's extremely unlikely that it's a saberstaff.

 

Since we're close enough for official predictions, I'm saying there's more to the staff than immediately obvious, but it's mostly a storytelling method to explain how she could already be skilled in melee combat. Beyond that, at some point either at the end of TFA or in Episode VIII, I'm guessing it becomes a double bladed saber. I'm not totally dismissing the theory that it's one of the artifacts though, could be both. But primarily I think they needed her to already be formidable with a melee weapon in order for it to be plausible she could do battle with someone of Kylo's experience.

Apparently on the Google Star Wars page, the image file of Rey's staff is labeled as "lightsaber.png" in the filename. Considering this was probably put together by official marketing people from Disney (or at least the art assets would have come from them) you have to wonder.

Or it could be someone using a popular search term in the filename to help with SEO.

Either way...definitely intriguing fuel for the fire.

 

I say not a lightsaber because if she is a user of the force she doesnt know it.

Not an electrostaff because thats what the bad guys use.

Not a normal staff because that is boring.

That leaves, other, so I am thinking a multitool type staff that can do some useful things. Something a survivor would have. A Leatherman Staff.
