SPECULATION Rey's staff. Just a staff? More than just a staff?

What a surprise that Magnar beat me to it

Pretty sure Electrostaff is canon because I think that's how they were described in Episode III's visual dictionary but I'd have to find mine. Most of my books haven't been brought to my apartment yet

While I would hope that quarterstaff is the final nail in the coffin experience has shown me the people will still cling on to their crazy theories haha

 

I'd put money on it

 

Here is what I can infer from the staff.

1. It is not a Jedi light sabre staff. Look at the length, it is a foot taller than Rey. It is simply too long and would not be practical. The blades would most likely extend another few feet from each end. It would be like wielding a poll vault.


2. It bears resemblance to the electro staffs but not exactly, however the length is more correct for this weapon. It could be an updated type of design of that weapon. So I think this is a likely theory.



3. I'm surprised no one has ever suggested that the staff is simply a staff for close quarter combat, and a blaster to attack targets at a distance. Much like the Goa'uld StarGate series weapons, of which JJ has said he's always liked that series.



This is where I would lay my money down as to the type of weapon Rey uses. A Staff/Blaster. The Staffster.

 

Go over to the casino and start a wager. Then we all can get in on the action.

 

Could it be plagues staff which had been some how been planted for her to find in some dark side master plan. When eventually ignited the sith red blade is exposed along with Reys breif temptation into the dark..........either that or its just your box standard staff a toydarian junk dealer might sell

I'll go check it out and lay down some credits. All you have to do is set an minimum bet. Once all the bets are made and the final outcome of the bet is determined, the credits that were bet are split among the winners. The only credits lost are the ones you initially bet.

I highly doubt it has anything to do with Plagues. That's really just an out there theory that extreme fan boys are grasping at in order to somehow fit Plagues in the movie. Plagues is the past. There will not even be a one line throw away to that character in TFA. Maybe one day there will be a stand alone movie bringing him into the fold, but not in the new trilogy.

 

I would rather see in Ep8 where she had constructed her own lightsaber...preferably a yellow saberstaff.

I really hope there is more to her staff than just a metal rod. If she is going to be knocking out storm troopers like in one of the supposed leaked scripts, then why do they were armor at all? I am hoping she takes off the end, attaches another small piece to it, and she has her lightsaber!

Why would a (literally) dirt poor scavenger girl have the resources or the means to construct or obtain something as exotic and complex as a lightsaber staff? Does two lightsabers fall out of the sky? Think about how ridiculous that sounds...
