    Good news. Good news indeed. Im sure he did a great job on TLJ but we still have to see. I wouldn't mind a KOTOR style trilogy set a 1000 plus years in the past.

    In hindsight KK was clearly sewing the seeds for this announcement in her Star Wars Show interview last week. In the same comment about continuing the series, she mentioned the new characters. I wouldn't be surprised if this new trilogy comes after IX with Rey etc. and just isn't classed as "Skywalker Saga" for whatever reason.

    I'm surpised they aren't making a bigger deal about the TV show that is going on the streaming service. I am also very shocked that it took this long for them to make it official. I guess since Disney pulled the plug on netflix they are having to wait a bit for the D to let them release that info.

    A Rian Johnson movie about the Sith Army and concluding with Darth Bane.
    Only real impact on current canon would be the creation of the Rule of Two

    The problem with forward, in a non-connected saga like that is you box in other future movies inside the saga should they go that way.
    Obviously unknown regions give you a chance around that, but I'd rather it go really far back unless episode 9 is the last Skywalker based movie. Then by all means just start a new saga with a Rian Johnson trilogy.

    i'm tired of stories that just seek the known level (R1 was always going to end with the Tantive IV; Anakin was always going to become Darth Vader; Han Solo is going to win the Millenium Falcon--or whatever, Sidious will kill Plaguies). and even if they avoid these big names, etc., the state of the galaxy is a known quantity: the Clone Wars, the Imperial Rebellion, etc. i want something that can evolve out of the box of the known galaxy. the easiest way to do that is forward.

    It was never started. It was all rumor mill. Neither KK or anyone else in Lucasfilm confirmed it.

    They aren't making a bigger deal about it, because it isn't official. The TV series isn't on the star wars website or part of the new movie announcements.

    That said, Variety is pretty reputable, but what we know so far is that Igar told investors that they plan to have a live action series launching with the streaming service. This is pretty different than announcing a series.

    That's essentially what I mean. I find it interesting that they announced this before announcing the 2020 stand alone. I still believe it's gonna be Obi-Wan, and, especially due to this announcement, I'm really starting to buy into the theory that they're purposely holding off on the Obi-Wan stand alone announcement because something happens in TLJ.

    I'm in your camp. The books and comics have been covering the past for years, let the movies take us forward. I don't want a KotOR trilogy that everyone will compare to the games, or worse, their own imaginations of that era. Give me more stories where I don't already know the ultimate outcome - for the characters or the universe.
