The Rotten Tomatoes audience score was a commonly cited source for those who didn't like The Last Jedi. It was widely debunked at the time.
That didn't stop people from voting over and over.

Now people are at it again. I don't know if I'll like Solo or not. Most people haven't seen the film and the reviews so far are mixed-to-positive. Users are already gaming the RT page. There's thousands of "not interested" votes. Right now the page shows on 47% of people are interested in the film. Which is amazing for a film tracking to break the Memorial Day opening record.

Regardless of how the film is received with audiences it's clear there's a motivated and organized group who are willing to vote over and over. So you can ignore anyone citing RT audience polls.

Next weekend we'll have scientific scores from ComScore/Screen Engine/CinemaScore and PostTrak. Those companies are the best measure of what audiences think of the film.

Definitely trolling going on. Just last week the interested to see the movie % on RT was over 90%. There is definitely a subset of the population out there who is wanting SW to fail or at least make it look like it is failing.

It shows that the "vocal minority" as many users usually say in this forum may not be so small. Just saying:rolleyes:. The backslash against the franchise is real, it's an irrational and passional hating that is spreading most of the time for no reason at all. I'm worried for the next years, you can all call me paranoid but I'm really worried and hoping the EP IX can change these things.

A few thousand people voting over and over is very small. That's why they're not effecting box office or scientific measures of audience reaction to the film.
There's no reason to worry about irrational people being irrational. They'll always be irrational. The point of this post is to show that the only thing these people are doing is rigging polls. There's no evidence their views are reflective of the general audience.

I hope that's the case, my fear is them to grow like in the Prequels days. This part of the fanbase can be really annoying and obnoxious to the point of influencing the general public.

Fandom aside the prequels had real issues. It looks like Solo is going to be the worst reviewed film of the new batch and they're still more positive than negative. Thor survived two mixed reviews films. Star Wars will be okay.

the movie doesnt look that bad honestly, but the trailers just didnt really feel like star wars for me besides the MF and a few other things...I find it funny how people can judge based on things that they do not know...even though I myself might not be fully optimistic about the movie, I'm not about to go to places such as RT and sh*tpost, or whatever you want to call it, just because without seeing the movie first.

I think that's the thing. All those nutcases who are so obsessed with the film having to be bad that they are willing to fake vote are already out there right now, doing it. So this might be that entire demographic, at least as it pertains to Solo (seems to be way less than TLJ, but then I think TLJ didn't get to the bot-level of craziness until it had just come out).

I honestly don’t why people obsess over the critics and fans scores? I could care less what the overall critics think of a SW movie as I would rather hear from fans like Darth Harloff or John Campea as they atleast ‘get’ SW the way we do.

As for fans overall scores, again who really cares? I still watch the PT and I’m well aware that many fans hated those movies.

This is sort of the problem with blockbusters today is people seem to care more about Box office, rotten tomatoes, whose side is loudest, rather then just giving us a great movie. I’ll take a cult/original SW movie that doesn’t appeal to the masses any day then a safe paint by the numbers movie like Solo.

You've lost me here. You said:
And then you cite something a critic said about a film you haven't seen:
You must care some if you cared enough to say you didn't care.

I might not like Solo, but citing things other people have said about a film I haven't seen is a little much.

I cited what essentially Darth Harloff said on Jedi Council Non spoiler review, not some random critic. That was my original point, as who cares what the general critics think as that is what the Rotten Tomatoes score is.

Harloff is a professional movie critic who likes Star Wars(although not the last two films). As is Campea (who liked Solo). This thread isn't really about critics. It's about organised trolls rigging online polls.

Speaking of Harloff I think I'm done with Jedi Council for awhile. Or at least until Harloff quits moaning about how he hates Marvel humor in Star Wars, but wants the Marvel guy running things over Kennedy.

Seems the show is titling a little too much towards toxic fandom. Based on the poll rigging that might be smart business.

Rigging scores is not just Star Wars. DC vs Marvel "battles", politically-charged movies like Ghostbusters remake and the Black Panther, corporations rigging scores to make their movies liike better etc. At this point it's just safer to find reviewers you end up agreeing with most of the time and stick to their opinion before making a decision.

Screw the reviewers. And screw Rotten Tomatoes. If you're interested in seeing a movie . . . take a chance and see it.

I absolutely cannot trust any professional reviewers. Look at TLJ score, look at Black Panther or Wonder Woman. Are these movies masterpieces? Critics nowadays care about agendas. They care that Black Panther is, well, black, and were ready to call it fantastic long before the film was out. The same with Wonder Woman - they score not the film, but the idea of a film.

And TLJ. You know I hate hate hate it, but even if I was unbiased spectator, is it REALLY that good? No. I don't get these scores at all. Our culture rests on hype. We don't see the movies anymore.

It was good (to most people).
    It was good.
    It was good.

I fail to see an issue here. Now, if you brought up that Paul Feig's awful Ghostbusters movie is Certified Fresh, you'd have a point. But the three movies you cited were wildly successful and are largely liked by audiences - TLJ less than the other two, perhaps.

But bear in mind that filling a supposed "diversity quota" doesn't mean Jack Squat when it comes to how movies are scored. Suicide Squad is perhaps one of the most diverse, representative superhero movies to be released in the past few years and it got no mercy from the critics for being messily-put-together. (I still hold that it's a decent guilty-pleasure movie.) Wonder Woman, conversely, is acclaimed because it's put together very well as a story, aside from having some hiccups in the movie's last twenty minutes, and the entire "No Man's Land" sequence is in and of itself a standout sequence deserving of praise.

I think RT is honestly a terrible metric for quantifying movie criticism and is really bad for the industry overall, particularly since there are certain cases where it's obvious that a critic made up their mind before watching a movie and their review reflects that. The scoring system is poorly-explained by the site and that's exactly what people use the site for in the first place.

I used to think that the Audience Rating was actually a redeeming factor for the website, but seeing how easily it can be manipulated has led me to the conclusion that the entire site is worthless except as a measure of fanboy-bait. ("See? People hated The Last Jedi and it's a flop!" (it isn't), "The critics are biased, Suicide Squad is better than Thor: The Dark World!", et al.)

Funny how the RT scores 4 the PT "seems about rite" but 4 Disney Wars its "rigged".

I'm not saying it was downright bad (mediocre though), but was it BETTER than Blade Runner 2049 or Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri?

What story is that? That was by far the most enjoyable DC movie, but the plot was obvious and okay at best.

    We have IMDB for that.

Because there's not any blatant brigading on display with the scores for the PT movies. Nor is there any real brigading for TFA or RO.
This is what I mean by RT failing to explain their scores well. The average on-a-scale-of-one-to-ten scores for TBOEM and BR2049 are higher than WW, but you didn't notice that underneath the giant percentage sign that the site constantly advertises. The former movie is on par with WW in terms of percentages, BTW.
I meant that in terms of using a narrative as an extension of the title character and her story arc; on that level, it was nearly as effective as the first two Spider-Man movies directed by Sam Raimi. It doesn't matter that it borrowed a few beats from Captain America: The First Avenger - the narrative served the character well and it was a story worth telling.
Agreed... They at least have some measures to counter rating-bombing. Not all of them work, but it's a better outlet by far.
