Well, well, well. When I argued that Snoke was basically OT's Palpatine, I didn't expect it to be the case literally.

Now it makes perfectly sense that this dude appeared out of the blue and it was hard to track his origins and to find a purpose in his role.

I think he would have been a very weak main villain, JJ should thank Johnson for making him die and giving him the opportunity to bring back the villain of villains, someone that used to treat Vader as when you walk the dog (Darth Plagueis's spirit lives in Palpatine, I honestly cannot think of any better final chapter's enemy).

Also, I am guessing he has a similar taste in music as myself- mainly martial industrial.

On the topic of aesthetics, it would be so cool if Nachtmahr did a performance in First Order uniform. Below is a Star Wars themed version of Can You Feel The Beat.

We sweep across planets like a storm
A force to reckon with was born
We came and conquered what you thought safe
We seek to rule and to enslave

    We're setting worlds ablaze
    From Mortis to Aleen
    Endor, Helska, Galpos II
    From Demir to the Savareen

    There will be no surrender
    There will be no retreat
    Nothing can stop us now

    Can you feel the beat?
    Can you feel the beat?
Of pounding hearts and marching feet
    Can you feel the beat?

Our numbers grow stronger every day
We are a force that's here to stay
    We're making people stomp
    From Scarif to Bespin
    Coruscant and Exegol
From Dada X to Second Skin

    There will be no surrender
    There will be no retreat
    Nothing can stop us now

    Can you feel the beat?
    Can you feel the beat?
Of pounding hearts and marching feet?

    Can you feel the beat?
    Can you feel the beat?
    No surrender - no retreat

It wasn't that they thought he would make a weak villain, it was that they wanted to avoid the criticism associated with having another Palpatine archetype.
