So now there is a Star Wars version of X-Men's Cerebro? Ugh...

Yeah, I saw this article. A few things:

Rey is an alias? I'm fine with that.
    Snow planet? Cool.
Death Star III, being used by the Republic? Drawing the line, but maybe it won't be central to the plot...
Now people are saying their disappointed with the film?! Ah jeez, this is not a good sign, I'm literally hoping against hope that this is not true; I mean seriously, once you have people who worked on the film saying its disappointing, then that's a bad sign.
A lot of people say, "Hopefully TFA won't be an abomination like the Prequels," but in doing so they are forgetting the other extreme: too much fan service and literally redoing the OT.

Of course, this all might not be true, but if it is, then...yikes.

(Btw, I didn't mean to sound so pessimistic, but this is the most anticipated film of 2015 guys! Don't we want an original story after such a long wait?)

No, the "Jedi detector" and "Death Star III" are two separate things. The "Jedi detector" is somehow connected to a planet inhabited by not just Imperials but also innocent people who don't have anything to do with anything. "Death Star III" is built by the Republic to destroy the "Jedi detector," but if "Death Star III" is actually used for the purpose for which it was built, then all the inhabitants of the planet will die. Leia would consequently be faced with a moral quandary: Would dismantling the "Jedi detector" be worth committing genocide over? Would she be able to live with herself doing something like that?

I really hope the Death Star 3 and Jedi Killer Weapon are wrong or misinformation. I wish they could think of something a little more original to make the bad guys bad rather than some super weapon. Just seems so sci-fi cookie cutter.

I agree, I would like to see the sequel go in a different direction. This is the problem with having planet destroying weapons as your great fear, what other plot devices do you have that are bigger, galaxy destroying weapons, portable black holes, I mean how much worse does it get than the Death Star?

Seems plausible enough. The Death Star being used to destroy a much worse weapon. I wonder if that means that this Jedi detector has been used so often to kill Luke’s padawans that he is in seclusion because he feels like the bad thing he has done…was train a bunch of people who ended up killed…?

The planetary weapon will only be a subplot, not overkill like the star or fake wars

"The weapon can detect Jedi across the Galaxy..."

This really bothers me. Since it's a giant weapon based on a remote planet, I assume it is stationary. How does it do this? Are we going to get more wonky quasi science? Is the dreaded M-word going to be used?

I've got a bad feeling about this...

P.S. There's no need for this, Jason:

Star Wars 7 News ran a similar rumor this week, but most of it could have been sourced from older articles published recently here (and strangely fails to point out that a large number of the bits in said “Exclusive” aren’t exclusive to said story).

Why take potshots at other fan sites simply to bolster your own standing? You did the same thing to Latino Review recently as well. Very poor form.

P.P.S. Maybe I'm alone but I'm getting tired of clicking threads only to find a link to MSW. Let's either create a single thread dedicated to Jason and people who want to discuss his stories. Or label them with an MSW in the thread title. I'm becoming less and less a fan of his egocentric output and would rather avoid it if I could.

Yeah, the whole "Jedi detector" stuff just doesn't sound like Star Wars. I'm really hoping this is not true, or at the very least, not central to the film. It could be interesting if it's a minor background thing, or even just a "First act" type of adventure, simply to set up the status quo.
Imagine, the movie is called The Force Awakens, so it should be about the Force, but instead we get something like "Episode VII: Episode IV: A New Hope: Part II." :p

The jedi detector shouldn't be an object. It should be a person and since sith can detect tremors and disturbances in the force surely they'd be able to detect there is a jedi nearby. They don't need a machine for that. Hopefully that's where the inquisitor comes in. I would like that storyline. Inquisitor as a hunter.

That does sound cool, and certainly much better than a random machine. One question though, is the Sith Inquisitor aligned with the Empire, or are they completely independent?

I would say she is affiliated with the empire but the inquisitor is motivated not by orders but by the duty to carry out order 66 or whatever. I could see her (presuming Christie plays the role as everyone has eluded to) essentially using the empire's resources (ships, troops, etc.) to her advantage in her quest to find force sensitive people. I think of her more as a force sensitive bounty hunter than a sith apprentice.

This was my fear when all of the concept and rumors was basically pointing to a reboot/mash up of the original trilogy. So far, we have nothing original aside from a couple of speeders. The ships are alterations of the old ones. The costumes are alterations of the old ones. If you add a snow planet, desert planet, Hutts, another Death Star, X-Wings, Stormtrooper, etc.
Everything Jason writes seems to have anger towards others or self promotion. He says he doesn't want comments on his site yet comes here and posts comments to promote himself. Bad form indeed. Sure seems like a guy on the path to the dark side.
