SPOILER Snow Planet and Super Weapons

This made my day.

 

Wow that's a lot of negativity over very little substance!

1-The only aspect that appears here that is rehash is a new death star. I really don't want a third "Death Star." But its possible that is a codename for any planet destroyer this could easily be the catapult using a moon to destroy a planet is awesome. But even if it is just another "Death Star" the fact that it is Rebel hard liners (this means Kylo Ren might be a dark sider on the Rebel's team) is very new destroying planets is the bad guys job. Putting this dilemma in front of Leia is a significant element. It also means that there very well could be an against all flags aspect.

2 - Considering how heavily the charges that the PT didn't feel Star Warsy I expect the designs to fit a certain tone. Also like it or not the creator of the franchise introduced a notion of visual and narrative rhyming. So I think that some familar themes or reversals of themes is to be expected. I know I would miss this sort of element as much as I would miss wipe trtransitions and opening scrolling text.

3-If the rumored "force weapon" is a method of finding force sensitive people across the galaxy that is far better than some other propsed options.

 

I don't want a third death star either because it will end in the same result it'as destruction, as for a force weapon just stick with the powers & a lightsaber

 

Right and there won't be time to really make clear what happened in the last 30 years to make Leia contemplate blowing up a planet the same way her home planet was destroyed. It has to pick up somewhere that is mysterious enough to make us think "wow how did that get like that?...that's really cool" but not so different that we are going "What the hell happened here?!". You want to be excited about the changes not confused and annoyed. It sounds like bad fan fiction to me. I think the water got muddy somewhere and this is what came out of it.

 

A Force powered weapon would be cool in my opinion, better than a 3rd Death Star. I like the name... Fatality Planet instead.

It's to big to be a fatality planet. Han & Obi Won's faces are priceless.

 

The way I look at it the PT movies were mostly pretty bad but I thoroughly enjoyed them. How much more will I enjoy the ST, which clearly has made strides to go back to the roots(Falcon, Ties, Empire, original cast, more practical stuff)?

I never cared about the Death Stars in the OT. They were pretty much just a sideshow for what I was really interested in: the characters, plot, cool effects and ships/locales/creatures. The super weapons were just 'there'. So I don't mind a bit of a re-tread.

The resurfacing of the Leia flashback rumors might have a lot to do with her moral choice she supposedly has to make about firing the DS III. Perhaps a flashback to something ANH didn't show us about Alderaan, Tarkin, and the original DS.

 

I remember reading somewhere after the Avengers movie that Hollywood blockbusters need to be about saving the world. Once a movie crosses the $200 million mark, anything less than a threat to the whole world just doesn't make it out of the studio offices.

And I remembered how that was so different from what Stalin said, "The death of one is a tragedy; the death of millions is a statistic."

I'm not shocked to hear about another Death Star in the ST. It doesn't surprise me to hear this next movie contains the greatest threat to the Galaxy yet. But it would be really refreshing to see all the protagonists band together to save Luke Skywalker. Not because he's the key to saving the Galaxy, or because he's the embodiment of the Force, or for any other reason that the Galaxy could possibly need him.

Just save the guy because he's worth saving.

Scale it down, Disney. Bring it back to a human scale. Don't follow the blockbuster recipe and up the ante with every sequel.
