Instead of a "force planet", how about a shrine of a Sith so powerful that the whole planet has been tainted...

Well... I am not saying I believe one shred of this, but it wouldn't be the first time a studio killed a series as they tried to revive it with a reboot...

Here is the difference... Star Trek was about the Enterprise... and, to a large degree, specifically the Captain of the Enterprise. To be sure, most of the crew stayed the course with the Captain, but some (like Checkov) joined in. At the time of the ST reboot... the Klingons were allies, the Romulans were making overtures to the Vulcans... the Borg had been defeated... Kirk (like Plagueis) was dead... Spock had died... the cast was getting old...

Mad Max was Mel Gibson... and there is a limit to how long he can be Mad and not sad...

SW is different... it isn't tied to one main character... or one ship... or even a group... it is the ongoing sage which already spans generations. It doesn't need a reboot, it needs to continue unfolding...

Okay now wait just a damn minute... I just got finished explaining why we do not need a reboot, and you come up with an angle I just can't argue with. Get ready for time travel, baby... and lemme get the metal polish

Rumours will be rumours. There was some things I rolled my eyes to in these new ones.Im fairly open minded and trust Disney with JJ to deliver when the time comes.Until official information I treat all rumors as pure entertainment and food for thought. The time warping made me chuckle..lol..thnx for the laugh. You all rock making this a great place to hang out...banter,theorize and joke around everything that is star wars.

Whatever this snow planet is there appears to be a ground & space battle taking place on it, & off course a lightsaber courtesy of a hooded friend with that sword saber.

    Hmmmm.
The snow planet is probably the place where there's a rumoured dark, haunted castle.
It might be haunted and dark enough to warrant complete destruction of the planet (or moon or whatever).
Who knows, this castle may be the place where the titular 'awakening' takes place. An ancient evil sith shrine so powerful it can resurrect the bodies of long dead Sith lords like Plagueis. Maybe that's what Kylo Ren is attempting to do. Luke is hauled out of exile by the new heroes to stop the dark side from being 'awakened' and before the republic takes drastic steps to use a WMD to blow up the entire place.

It's possible Finn and Kylo Ren are meant to complement one another: One is an agent of the Empire who is actually good, while the other might be an agent of the Republic who is actually evil.

It actually is really realistic. Think about this:

In the OT it is painted very clearly that the Empire is bad and the Rebels are good. In this movie it could be that the lines are blurred which would level the playing field. The good guys always have the advantage because nobody is leaving the goodies to join the baddies. It's vice versa. But if this is the case then there will be equal or close to equal amounts of defecting on both sides. I like the idea of a level playing field.

Still, it could be argued that we've already seen good turning to evil with Anakin, although there appears to be a strong consensus that the transition was not handled believably by Lucas; we all seem to have felt that Anakin basically went, "Okay, I guess I'm going to start being evil now because that's what the script tells me to do." Lawrence Kasdan is better at the technical details of screenwriting than George Lucas is, so I expect to see things done more naturally in the new movie.

I will agree 100% on the Kasden part. But i think we can all agree the republic was flawed. They elected the eventual emperor as their leader and gave him "UNLIMITED POWERZ" but the way the rebellion has been portrayed is as having no fault.

Plot points or themes that may surface in the next 4/5 months might show that the "blur" between good & evil, dark & light per se.
Lucas reportedly made this point years before saying EP 7-9 would show characters being conflicted or some having moral/ethical issues.
I, for one, hope to all the Holy Gods out there, that the Galatic Republic(Rebels) do not set up a "secret Death Star", world smasher or WMD. (epic fail)
That plot device is soooo played out in the Star Wars stories & films. Not to mention EU books that thanks to Mickey, are no longer considered canon...
Luke going berzerk & destroying a huge device or weapon would be cool to watch but I doubt he will be a outcast or pariah to the Republic.

Well the picture of Driver in the X-wing suit and rumors about him being a pilot go pretty hand in hand with a rift in the rebellion leadership. Rebel hardliners who are willing to destroy a planet would not have a problem with a Sith operative.

dr evil.jpg If we are going to see another ad nauseum battle station with planet destroying "laser beams", can we at least get Mike Meyers to be Darth Evil?

I'm confused too by how or why in 35 ABY(after the battle of Yarvin) chasing down or eliminating Jedi or Force sensative Patewans became soooo critical.
Weren't Jedi & Jedi Order considered out dated or a hokey religion in the OT era?
How or why a huge complex weapon or "mirror" device is built or needed because of finding Jedi(which again are largely considered extinct) doesn't make sense.
A cabal or rogue group capturing Luke Skywalker then trying to harness or manupulate his Jedi powers makes more sense than a 1000 year old relic or WMD plot that 75% of TFA audience over 35 years old will say: ugghhh again with a massive weapon station???

I do very much like the idea of the Rebellion and Empire locked in a stalemate, and the events of TFA breaking it wide open and plunging the galaxy into a brutal war as opposed to small-scale skirmishes on Outer Rim planets. The Rebels, if they built a Death Star or some such super weapon, are clearly a more powerful army than in the middle trilogy and so consequent battles would be massive and far-reaching. That would also allow more organisations outside the Rebellion and Empire to be introduced, emboldened by the good guys' increase in power and the Empire's increased vulnerabilities, trying to enhance or exploit the former superpowers, or to supplant and annex into governments and sinister agencies we haven't yet encountered. By the climax of Episode IX the galaxy should be in a very different and interesting place with lots of avenues for fresh ideas to be explored by spin-offs.

I have some thoughts on this....but that would be plagiarizing MSW. So I'm just going to keep my thoughts to myself. Speculate away plagiarists, and beware the wrath of Jason!
