I could get behind what you're saying! I don't think it happens though.

I have a feeling Leia will be some form of Jedi. Either half trained or full fledged Knight. That means I think she has a lightsaber and that when she ignites it the first time in the ST...it probably means that the you know what is about to hit the fan for her.

Leia's connection to Luke through the Force will be play a role in VII if not the ST.

The rumor-mill hasn't said much about Leia's role in Episode 7, as we all assume she has some political role in government.

Its been 30 years since her talk with Luke about being siblings, and having the same power he has, so who would want to see her in action?

Now I say this meaning I don't want her doing Count Dooku flips while fighting with a lightsaber. But I think it would be cool to see a subtle scene of Leia using her force powers. Possibly using the jedi mind trick, or maybe using the force push, etc.

JJ has to be careful if he decides that Leia is going to use a lightsaber, cause it could come off as very awkward by Carrie Fisher. Maybe she pulls the lightsaber out to defend herself, and gets in a small squirmish while her daughter (Daisy Ridley?) comes in to take over the fight.

Again, this has to be subtle cause a 60 year old Carrie Fisher can't be going around like Darth Maul, but if done right, it could be really cool to see Leia finally use the force after all these years!

Thoughts? And yes I am expecting alot of people to disagree with me, so let the thread begin!

i dunno.. every time i see this topic mentioned it seems to immediately be quashed with mention of her age and how awkward she would be trying to do it.

dooku, yoda and emperor all got the treatment in terms of swapping zimmer frames for lightsabers.. i dont see why you wouldn't do it for Leia.

nothing could be as bad as Kenobi's fight with vader from ANH - AG looked like he'd never picked the thing up before imo lol

so yes.. i think she should. she is Luke's twin.. daughter of Anakin.
    personally i think it's inevitable - but maybe i'm way off ?

How about Force lighting and sh*t like that,
Leia would be a very surprising villain. But a politician gone bad is old news.

I don't think she will be using a lightsaber but I think Luke will have taught her some usage of the Force. I just can't see her being a full-on Jedi.

The key question is will JJ & Disney portray Leia in terms that everyone knows she is Luke's brother, so hence she has big time Jedi Powers. Or will it be Luke/Leia/Han's secret, and she will downplay her force ability? Maybe there's a fear if she and Luke are known to be Darth Vader's kids, then they're lives may always be in danger?

i said that exact same thing about Christopher Lee a few years ago lol

well those are the big questions for this topic. impossible to begin to guess some of this stuff with what we know so far.

there is another question of course.. which i hate to ask lol, but will more Leia merchandise sell if she's holding a lightsaber?

That's an interesting question. I suppose as long as it serves the story, it is a natural progression from VI.

However, that's a cynical question and Oscar Isaac said this wasn't a cynical film. :p

I believe she will be using the force as Luke is told to pass on what he has learned and being his twin her force potential should match his. Maybe not to the skill level he has stained buy she should be very powerful I think she will have a lightsaber but it is probably mostly a sign that she is a jedi. She could keep it a secret and keep it hidden like Palpatine did but only use it in a emergency. Kinda like she is her own secret bodyguard. She xcould have overt guards but her jedi training be it limited or full on knight could be her ace in the hole .like I said I think her being a powerful force user is a given. ....
as luke was not the last hope.... there is another....just my thoughts on it

JJ should address Leia's force sensitivity in some way. It was quite important subplot at the end of ROTJ.

There is something subconsciously wrong with Organa - Full On Jedi concept (and it's not about Carries shape or age). Doesn't fit the archetype I guess.
In a way she could be a reflection of Palpatine, gifted politician with hidden mastery in light side of the force and a lightsaber drawn on special occasions.

If, and this is a big if, the rumors of Luke being gone since RotJ are true, then it’s doubtful Leia would have progressed in her force abilities at all. Even if it’s the lesser 10 year length for Luke’s exile, it could be used to explain why Leia never became a Jedi.

Personally, seeing Carrie or a CG reproduction of Carrie wield a lightsaber would take me out of the movie. I’d prefer he force powers remain restricted to the non-lightsaber variety if they give her any. A subtle mind trick here, a prophetic vision there. Stuff like that.

As I said in another thread:

However, I think what I'd really like to see with Leia is her having started training with Luke more or less straight away after the end of RotJ (in between all the diplomatic negotiations, etc.) and so, given that it's now been 30 years since that point, she ought to be pretty proficient at the Jedi arts - all Mace Windu-like. However, given that Luke supposedly disappears for 10 years or so, without guidance, she could have easily started turning towards the Dark Side with no-one there to guide her and give her a sense of perspective on her actions. I think one of the most important things about the whole 9-movie saga is the concept of bringing balance to the Force, and the fact that this doesn't mean one side completely wiping out the other - that's definitely not balance. I think that if this happens with Leia, it will influence others in Luke's New Jedi Order to do the same and thus usher in a new age of balance in the Force by having morally grey characters, who do whatever is necessary for the greater good. This actually might mean that "prophecy of the one who will bring balance to the Force" actually refers to Leia.... Hmmm.

I would her rather not to be honest. Maybe a force power here and there but no to her having a lightsaber duel.

I always thought Anakin brought balance to the force. He killed all the Jedi and all the Sith, leaving zero on each side of the equation.

Even if we consider films only: Luke and Leia. So there you have it. One Jedi, and one strong candidate for Jedi.

I go with poodoo....totally hoping it won't happen...yet I could see it happening...perhaps she has been training Daisy??? Anybody thought of that? Yoda should have never been seen with an lightsaber, neither should Leia. It makes her seem more wise.

I have always thought it interesting that we have little closure for Leia in her relationship with her Father.

Does 7 make any reference to this relationship or try to discuss this dynamic in Leia's heart? Or are we left speculating?

I used to think it would be nice to see Leia wield a lightsaber, but now that we get Episode VII thirty years later I am thinking it won't look very good. However, I wouldn't mind if Leia knew a few nice Force tricks (taught to her by Luke of course), more subtle things like Obi-Wan did in Star Wars. I also won't mind if she doesn't have any Force/Jedi-related role at all; however, in The Empire Strikes Back there's a clear cue that she's indeed sensitive to the Force, when she "hears" Luke's plea for help when he is adjusting the Cloud City weather vane as part of his janitor duties there (you didn't know Lando Calrissian hired Luke? He needed the extra money)

its that classic story we've all heard a million times..

girl meets boy 1 wearing a scary mask
boy 1 has girl interogated for secret plans
girl meets boy 2 who rescues her
boy 1 tries to blow up girl
boy 2 tries to blow up boy 1
boy 1 escapes and tells boy 2 that he is his father
boy 2 tries to slice up boy 1 with lightsaber
boy 2 changes his mind and saves boy 1
boy 2 tells girl that she is his brother
boy 2 tells girl that boy 1 with scary mask is her father.. and is now dead

it's certainly an interesting dynamic lol

in all seriousness.. there's been a lot of talk of Han/Luke having big roles in Ep 7. In all actuality it's probably Leia's character that needs some screen time.. and some closure.
