    There has been a genuine backlash to every SW film.
    ANH - too childish
    Empire - a lifeless copy of ANH (literally written multiple times in complaints). Empty, aimless.
    RoTJ - A trite copy of ANH with no real emotional conclusion. A film for kids.

    Literally written of ROTJ:
    "With its feints at horror and pathos, the third Star Wars film (1983) is the most Disney-esque in its emotional outline, yet that outline is buried beneath an obnoxiously hyped-up pace (a la Raiders of the Lost Ark) that reduces the emotions to rubble."

    As to the prequels and TFA...I don't need to cite anything. The hate is fresh in memory.

    Point is; it's not SW unless it's called names, cursed at, belittled, hated, and petitioned against.

    It is still a joke. It's the epitome of what's wrong with fanboy culture and internet "movie-criticism" in general.
    Neither TPM nor AotC is universally hated on the internet. In fact, more people prefer the PT to the ST so far online imo, thanks to nostalgia. I mean people in their 20s (the most active on the internet) all grew up with the PT.
    It is way too early to draw any conclusion from the BO performance. Even if TLJ was the greatest thing since sliced bread it wouldn't make TFA numbers. The hype around TFA won't come back every again. Just compare the trailer views of TFA and TLJ on Youtube...
    Really? A company won't publicly admit their system is fundamentally flawed and can't be trused?! Sacre bleu...

    Ok I watched film again in 2D and its 7/10 for me (Honestly 6/10 but as a Star "wears" fan-still alive- I give credit to few great moments , unfortunately dispersed between pile of derivative rubbish and bad humor...)

    Still after all hacking and anti- hacking story at RT, the audience approval rate is plummeting still...

    today its historically low.

    In France the movie is now at 2.9/5 for the audience rating.
    3.5 was the critics ratings.

    Edit , for information , you can't rate 0/5 in the french site ^^. the 0 note rating doesn't exist.

    I think the backlash is genuine, since I read the last jedi merchandising is doing so so in business.

    It's the first alert something is wrong. If you don't like the movie you won't buy the merchandising.

    Last year, my disney store sold out of Yoda, bb8, Rey, kylo ren... For exemple, this year there is no such thing.

    An online petition is meaningless. Any petition that can be signed numerous times by one individual is meaningless. Posting about an online petition to validate a point is meaningless. Lets stick with valid points.
