THREAD FOR THOSE WHO HATED THE MOVIE

Is this an attempt at making those who dislike the movie to feel ashamed about their feelings? Seems like it.

 

I think people are allowed to feel how they want to about a movie and labeling them sad is well....sad. I expect to see you in the love threads for TLJ and condemning those extreme emotional responses too.

You caught me. I think I overreact constantly. At the end I have "picked a side" like you and I am not "as openminded" as I thought.

 

How exactly can you make a statement like that? You know how KK thinks? Based on what? Do you know her personally? There are more POC characters (great ones too) in the new SW films than ever before. Rogue One, Solo, TLJ, TFA. Each one has shown more and more diversity. Yet you say you like the old content better? Is that a joke?

 

i find it very dis-heartening that ppl are posting in here to argue with those that did not like TLJ.

we all get carried away on forums.. thinking we've got to participate in every conversation even if that means having a battle with someone or upsetting someone.

i absolutely loved TLJ, but i've still read through most of this thread because i want to be a part of what you peeps are feeling... but i won't pull apart what you are all saying because i have different views.

TLJ is anything but a cash grab. Whatever you think of the actual movie, you can't deny the fact that Rian genuinely tried to tell a story and explore the characters. If anything, I think TFA was much more "cash grab-y", as it was more of a greatest hits album.

It's sad that Disney's squandered the opportunity that they were given.
They had the chance to make Star Wars Great Again™ and they blew it.

TFA was HORRIBLE.
TLJ was even WORSE.

God only knows now what's in store for Episode IX.

Great post! The comparison to someone walking into an AA meeting is pretty darn perfect. I've come to the conclusion that some folks just like stirring the pot and declaring victory because their ideas played out on screen. I can't get over the hypocrisy of some who come into this thread and accuse others of not liking TLJ because their "head cannon" didn't happen, then in the same breath start celebrating because their idea of what should happen did play out on screen. So I guess it's okay if THEIR head cannon came true? The same things are happening in other threads. There's a thread in the Ep.9 board about curing Rey's Mary Sue accusations and I was going to post something, but things have gotten ugly and I don't want to be accused of being sexist...against my own gender.

You are correct, we all love Star Wars or else we wouldn't be posting here. I still love SW, I just did not love or enjoy TLJ. It shouldn't be hard to respect an opposing opinion, but it seems in this day and age that you can't express an opinion without the sexist, racist, you're ______phobic, etc. or general insults being flung about. Hopefully, when everything with TLJ dies down, things will be a little more civil.

 

Except AA meetings aren’t held in public forums where anyone can see. They’re done in private, hence the word ‘anonymous’. If you attended a meeting and started espousing contrary opinions, you’d be asked to leave and they’d be justified in doing that.

The Cantina is an open forum - a platform meant for the fee exchange of ideas that hopefully results in constructive discussion and debate. If you post an opinion here, wherever it might be, you run the risk of someone challenging it. That’s the basic nature of the medium.

There’s nothing wrong with having a negative perspective and wanting to share it with like minds, but getting indignant because someone offers a counterpoint is fairly ludicrous. The only way to ensure you strictly hear from the voices you want to is to start your own forum and selectively approve who gets to participate. Tolerating dissenting points of view is simply part of the deal.

It's a pity a lot of people can’t put aside their personal investments and just be respectful regardless of differing opinions. The only way to combat that is to not endorse it, to not sink to the same level and just accept this is how some people are. This is how they operate, but maybe, just maybe, they’d see how someone respectful conducts themselves and consider changing.

I’m sorry if this comes off as at all patronizing. It’s just been on my mind for a little while now and needed to put it somewhere.

 

With the AA comment, I just meant that the poster's example was a good comparison with what goes on here at times. As I've said before, I have no issue having conversations with those of different opinions. I've had some really good and civil exchanges with those who loved TLJ. As long as the other person isn't insulting and mocking, then all will be fine. Let's be honest though, some come in this thread that is clearly marked a hate thread simply to insult and be jerks.

 

No doubt about that. And I'm sure no one needs me to say (but I will anyways ) that being jerks right back doesn't solve anything. Best to just ignore them until they decide to be jerks somewhere else. But no one asked me, so I should probably get back to butting out.

 

You're right, but it's hard to ignore the jerks when you are being directly attacked. If someone's telling me that I'm out of my mind for not liking a certain thing, or worse, don't understand or get it, then I'm going on defense and maybe into jerk territory. I find the"You don't like TLJ because you just don't understand it!! comment quite hilarious. It's Star Wars, not rocket science. I get it and I still don't like it.

 

The complete and utter tool that posted about the AA originally, probably put his usual (minimal to none) amount of thought into it.
