Technically "band" is the subject, not "fighters".

So, in standard modern English, usually we would use "band" as a singular noun, thus the reason for a verb that would agree with a singular noun.

There are some situations where collective nouns can be either singular or plural based on intent, though.

 

Can anyone tell me what Yoda's last statement was (the very last line he says - after the failure stuff). On both of my viewings so far, I couldn't quite make out what he said.

I finally noticed that on my third viewing yesterday!

 

If this was the E.U., people would be so excited for a Snoke clone from the hand that's presumably still sitting on his throne's armrest

A little detail inside an epic moment. I was thoroughly enjoying the movie up to this point, and then it went to another level all together. The Falcon chase scene through the caves under the Crait surface brought a HUGE smile to my face... and the music... John Williams you sneaky bugger! Play at 3:44 and relive the entire scene in your head and tell me you weren't a kid again. (for all us old folks)

And as for the little detail... the Falcon losing it's radar dish once again while flying in tight quarters during that scene.

 

Just one of so many great scenes in TLJ. I loved it. Everything in it.
Chewing piloting, Rey at the quad laser cannon like Luke in ANH and porgs!!!

 

Yep! Noticed it in my first viewing, and it completely paralyzed me in fear.

My inner monologue at that moment was instantly: Is Snoke the Emperor?! Oh holy porg, what the Mustafar have you done Rian?!

The eerie addition of the wind instrument to differentiate it and keep it in line with the instruments associated with Snoke in the films and trailers were great.

It not being part of the soundtrack OR the Oscars: For Your Consideration package likely means that this was lifted and edited from an earlier film, much like some sequences in TFA.

But yes, I kid you not, I was sweating buckets profusely the first time I heard it.

 

Did anyone else see the damage on Luke's robotic hand while he took the lightsaber? It's the shot he got from Jabba's sail barge from that one pirate.

 

Did anyone else notice the ROTJ music from when Lando and the Rebel fleet attack the new Death Star plays when Rey is fighting the FO Tie Fighters in the cavern on Crait?

 

It's actually the one from ANH when they fight the tie fighters after escaping the death star. Will check if it repeats during the battle of endor.

 

My bad. I've seen ROTJ too many times it seems.

 

Did anybody else also notice the Porg's nest in the falcon? They nested in the ruined part that was shot off during the battle in 'A New Hope' with the TIE fighters when the Falcon was escaping the Death Star
