So in the wake of recent information from Empire magazine, JJ's parallels of The First Order and their belief of a greater good like the Nazis. Here is the info below:

“That all came out of conversations about what would have happened if the Nazis all went to Argentina but then started working together again?’” Abrams reveals. “What could be born of that? Could The First Order exist as a group that actually admired The Empire? Could the work of The Empire be seen as unfulfilled? And could Vader be a martyr? Could there be a need to see through what didn’t get done?”

When this was posted on this site, an interesting comment was made:

Master Raze Golladio August 25, 2015 at 16:41 PM
So I guess the question is, what did JJ think Vader was doing that wasn’t finished before he died?

I have always felt like this has been one of 2 of the biggest things that EP7 will be about. Number 1 being, what does Luke do now?

Luke is another story that I wont get into here, but Vader is an all-around different world that I would like to give my 2 cents to get you guys thinking more about how the Galaxy lives on after "the Chosen One" is gone.

Whether you think that Vader was a Lord or an Apprentice, it won't matter. You, Vader, and I all know that he was one crazy powerful dude, and as we now know thanks to the comic books cannon wise , Vader often did things his own way outside the Emperor's bidding. This brings me to the biggest point of my rambling.

We all know there are still force users out there, and plenty of them. Yes hundreds were killed on Empire Day, but there is no way the force just shut down in users born after that day, or even the ones not old enough for any training yet. So what happens to them? Well Vader and Palpatine both know of this issue right? Of course they do! Naturally there are 4 things they would do. 1: kill them. 2: turn them: 3: capture and outcast them. Or 4: track them. Now I know that if they tracked them that would be the most risky and also that idea works outside of Sideous's? Power hungry controlling strategies we have seen, so i'm going to throw #4 out.

    Option 1:
Even though the Force Unleashed is not cannon, it makes sense that Vader would one day want an apprentice... or 2 or 3 etc. So let's say the plan is to kill all force users from now on (Nazi parallel to Jews). If he believed something different for the future of the Galaxy than what the Emperor believed, Vader easily could have begun his own training academy (on maybe abandoned sith planet Morriban?) before the young force users were killed.

    Option 2:
If the user's were turned, then they were probably wiped out again at some point. If Not, Vader would have used them to overthrow the Emperor instead of just Luke in ROTJ. The reason for this could be because the emperor see's Vader's new vision for the Galaxy and would naturally wipe out Vader's resources in a sneaky way.

    Option 3:
To me this seems like the most interesting and probable option. The empire was all about propaganda and suppressing the people by lying to them. So! Tell them that if your child's midichlorian count is high enough, they can be sent to a special planet where they would be cultivated to becoming powerful user's of the force and your home would be rewarded or when they return give some empty promise right? Then send the inhabitants to a locked down world for the training of a sith army or don't. Treat it like a prison, i don't care. Either way, make the inhabitants see the Emperor and the believed "Chosen One" to be revered God's.

    Vader's Unfinished Work
Fast forward to EP7 and we now know there are at least one group of force users following the ways of Vader known as the Knights Of Ren. It doesn't make sense that Plagueis would want the Knights of Ren to love Vader, unless Vader brought back Plagueis before he died in some way. Other wise Plagueis has no reason to use Vader as the reason why The Knights should revere Vader. UNLESS! Plagueis and his unnatural use of the force, thanks to Vader, can now bring back the slaughtered force users that are no longer around for the past 50 years and all sith before. One long term vision to bring back the TRUE sith and all who came after. Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Fortunately, Spirit Anakin can tell Luke what's up and what to do.

    Speculate away!

Anakin was basically the son of Plagueis according to Sidious. Plagueis created the Chosen One and Sidious ruined his potential. So if the KOR have anything to do with Plagueis I would say Vader being the martyred Chosen One created by Plagueis would be a pretty big deal to them.

Darth Plagueis (the novel) and Book of Sith: Secrets from the Dark Side aren't canon. I was with the OP 'til he mentioned Plagueis.

What is Vader's unfinished work? That's the question.

OT Vader wanted two things 1) eliminate the rebellion 2) turn Luke and overthrow Sidious. So, it seems obvious that Snoke and Ren want to eliminate the rebellion that became the New Republic/Resistance. Do they also want to turn Luke? That seems doubtful. I think Vader's unfinished work is just to wipe out any opposition to the empire -- of which he wanted to be the leader.

That's exactly what defeated Nazi's in South America would do: bide their time 'til they could make another offensive against the allies.

I know what is canon. I wasn't going by the novel (only read a little) or Book of the Sith (haven't read it), I was going by ROTS. The film suggests that Plagueis manipulated midi-chlorians to create life, i.e. Anakin. The novel suggests Plagueis failed and it was the Force that created Anakin in retaliation.
I was simply telling the OP why Plagueis, if he comes back, would be interested in Vader.

IMO, Anakin has no unfinished business, he served his purpose during both his time as a jedi & the sith, he has nothing left to teach Luke that he doesn't already know, if Vader was to come back it would be one moment of motivation when Luke is feeling down after a disagreement with Leia but apart from that his knowledge is solely based on protecting the future at any cost, the only other time it should appear is when Luke joins the force after his supposed death in TFA.

While I don't agree with the OP on the whole bringing back dead Sith thing, I wouldn't say Vader's story is over. If his name and image are being used by the main villains, that is far from "over."

That fell apart a bit there in the middle. "apartment that his knowledge is solely based on protecting the future at any cost." Huh?

"if Vader was to come back it would be one moment of motivation when Luke is feeling down after a disagreement with Leia." "the only other time will should appear is when Luke joins the force after his supposed death in TFA." Did I miss a leak or two?

Anakin and Vader are two different people. Snoke and Kylo want to finish Vader's work, not Anakin's.

"the only other time will should appear..."

Who is Will?! Why do I keep missing these details? :p

I assume he means Vader is not considered to be the same person as Anakin by the FO and KOR. They have the same view that Ben, and Vader himself, had before Luke saved him, if they even know who Anakin was (I would think at least Kylo does). You could also say Vader wasn't really "Anakin" until he was redeemed.

Could be argued the opposite way. Luke was striving to prove that Anakin was still Vader's true self and that he had "only forgotten" who he really was. "You were right about me... tell your sister, you were right."

Darth Vader: There is no escape! Don't make me destroy you. Luke, you do not yet realize your importance. You've only begun to discover your power! Join me, and I will complete your training! With our combined strength, we can end this destructive conflict, and bring order to the galaxy.
Luke Skywalker: I'll never join you!
Darth Vader: If only you knew the power of the Dark Side! Obi-Wan never told you what happened to your father.
Luke Skywalker: He told me enough! He told me you killed him!
Darth Vader: No. I am your father!
Luke Skywalker: No... No! That's not true! That's impossible!
Darth Vader: Search your feelings, you know it to be true!
    Luke Skywalker: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! NOOOO...!!
Darth Vader: Luke, you can destroy the Emperor. He has foreseen this. It is your destiny! Join me, and together, we can rule the galaxy as father and son! Come with me. It is the only way.

Yeah. Like I said before. Vader's OT plans 1) defeat the rebellion 2) turn Luke and overthrow Sidious. If you're saying that you think the FO is looking to turn Luke to the dark side then I disagree (though I'm really not sure what you're saying). I think the FO is just trying to defeat the rebels/new republic/resistance and restore the Empire. Like JJ said, they are what the Nazi's would've been if they'd been able to band together in South America.

I mean the best way to bring Plagueis back story wise is to have Vader do it for a reason right? or is that just me? Realistically We are trusting that Sideous told Anakin the truth when he said he killed him. Could have locked him up in some temple on some empty planet to die right? Vader figures it out and so on. So if Vader brought him back, why?
    --- Double Post Merged, Aug 25, 2015, Original Post Date: Aug 25, 2015 ---
"Plagueis created the Chosen One" has no facts to support it is true. I am curious to see what you think the connection would be if Plagueis didn't create Vader.

When he used the word "over" in quotations, he was insinuating that Vader's story/plan is going to be continued by others continuing it (namely, the FO). He didn't mean that Vader is going to be literally resurrected. Do you get that? It's going to be an important plot point in the film.
