SPECULATION What weapon will Finn wield?

I thinkthe only reason Finn used the lightsaber is lack of other wepons (and a cool fight scene with his stormtrooper friend). I dont think he is force sensitive so he would be better with a blaster.
Perhaps the filmmakers will try to come up with a new singlehanded blaster design, hoping it will be as iconic as Han Solos blaster?

 

It felt like Lucasfilm only did it for marketing purposes. Luke wasn't going to show up until the end of the film, they wanted to hide the fact that Rey was the real Jedi, and we all were expecting to see some lightsaber action. So, they made Finn the red herring. A dude who had no business wielding a lightsaber was forced to use it twice - and lose. :/

 

Yes exactely. It was more cool then nescessary for the story. For VIII they already have two good guys who can use a lightsaber. Rey for the marketing and Luke for the cool fight.
More guns for Finn!

 

More guns, more victory! And, for goodness sake, allow Rey to lose a fight or need saving every now and then. It'll humanize her.

 

I'm sure Finn will get a ''saving'' opportunity, she can hold her own the starkiller duel proved that.

 

he did save her.. Kylo knocked her out (against a tree) and Finn took on Kylo (who he would know that he could not defeat). he may not have beaten Kylo in that fight, but he certainly saved Rey. in my humble opinion of course

I gotta call bs on the in-movie red herring. On the advertising yes no question there. But half way through the movie, before finn even knows what the thing is, we find out the lightsaber is destined for her so when does the red herring start in the movie. When dose the red herring end and finn's progress begin.

 

Too much lightsable fight is no good. I found the Jedi fights in Geonosis hilarious. Finn will have a cool blaster as his fang. I would love to see Finn become sort of a spy in Episode VIII. That's one kind of a character we have never seen before in the main episode.

 

I like the spy aspect...afinn re-defects back to Sthe FO with a hidden saber in his blaster and "frees" the troopers from the clutches of Rhe FO and screw over Phasma again and/or convinces Phasma to finally defect and leaves her broken...why do you think the Geonosis fight was hilarious ?

 

What if they do another bait and switch in episode 8? Everyone is focusing on Rey but what if Finn is the one who beats Kylo Ren in a lightsaber battle in the next installment?

Luke couldn’t take on the knights of Ren alone. Even if Rey and Luke team up they'll still have trouble with them.

 

I think and hope this was the only time we saw Finn use a lightsaber. The story needs some non-force-sensitives in some good blaster fights.

I think Luke is to powerful for all the knights of ren. I think they are too afraid of him to meet him in a duel. Kylo Ren wont be able to avoid it in the end and the outcome of that wont come from their force skills. More likely a coincidence or an unexpected event.

 

I think it would be cool to see Finn in "A Wild West" stand off with another NON-FS Villian...maybe Ohasma and then one of them shoots first and survives/dies thus reigniting the "who shot first" thing ...

 

Yea but like, phasma isn't gonna shoot...phasma doesn't do anything.
Then people are just gonna use that opportunity to rag on finn more cause he shot an innocent lady.

Lmao oh man. If Finn (1 guy) getting a lightsaber means more geonosis (about 50 people with cgi toys running around fighting cgi robots in a cgi arena), I think I'm willing to settle for blaster finn.
