I said third, that may change on subsequent viewings. By third, I mean third in 2 ways. Empire is both the best, objectively and my favourite. ANH is better objectively than ROTJ, but I prefer ROTJ - for the space battle and the final Vader/Luke?palpatine confrontation.

So objectively I provisionally rate them:

    TESB
    ANH
    TFA
    ROTJ
    ROTS
    AOTC
    TPM

And in terms of favourites I rate them:

    TESB
    ROTJ
    TFA
    ANH
    ROTS
TPM (Because it has one memorable moment, whereas AOTC has nothing memorable but is more coherent)
    AOTC

For me it is impossible to rank TFA yet, having only seen it once and the OT having a 30-odd years geekylove headstart. I cannot rank TFA up against the old loves until I have seen it at least a few more times and let it sink in a bit. My gut feeling however, is that TFA will suffer in the long run by being somewhat repetitative, and the ton of exposition in the middle will get less interesting the more I view the film. That said, ESB & RotJ have loads of 2nd Act exposition as well, so perhaps TFA will stand up well to them. In short, time will show.

Difficult to say where I'll place it after I see it tonight, but something tells me it will end up being my favorite SW film. Empire may always be the best, but I'll decide which is the best after tonight :)

It is hard to say. I don't think any film has come close in comparison to the original trilogy. With the prequel trilogy, I feel like George Lucas tried to be too brazen. With the sequel trilogy, I feel like J.J. Abrams tried to be too safe. It all comes across as fan service, which lovely, did not make for a compelling movie beyond, "Yes! Star Wars!"

A better comparison might be made between each trilogy and their respective parts. There are things I have enjoyed about all things Star Wars.

TFA is an excellent film. 9.5 out of 10, would have been 10 if I walked out knowing Rey's father for sure =) but i'm happy to let that one got till epVIII

I'm away for my second viewing tonight so I might update this

Don't kill me for this, but

    1) TFA
    2) ROTS (for it's atmosphere of a total depression, when everything gets only worse with each second of the movie, and yes it was my favorite of all before TFA)
    3) ESB
    4) ANH
    5) ROTJ
    6) TPM
    7) AOTC

I'd say this order for based on two viewings:

    ESB
    ANH
    ROTS
    ROTJ
    TFA
    TPM
    AOTC

    ESB
    ANH
    ROTJ
    TFA
    ROTS
    AOTC
    TPM

Maybe when some of the storylines are resolved TFA could move up, TFA raises a few questions and I dont think it deserves to be above a trilogy which benefits from a finished/completed story arc just yet.

For now I'm going to say it's <1&&>=4. I really can't decide yet after seeing it only once.

I don't know. I have tons of fun with TFA, It is a fantastic movie. Not just because it's SW - it was a true adventure movie ( a lot of great action, characters, pacing is fast as hell) But for now it's too soon for a answer. I need more time, 2nd view.

I don't know....I think as 3rd but I'll have to watch it again to be sure, and maybe a 3rd or 4th or maybe 5th viewing to be really sure :p

    At the moment it is:
    1. ESB
    2. ANH
    3. ROTJ/TFA
    4. ROTS
    5. TPM
    6. AOTC

So yeah the next viewings will be the battle between ROTJ and TFA :p

I've seen TFA two times now and it might be #1. And I'm in love with Rey.

I was thinking that when I walked out too, now it's dropped to a 7, there's too many things bugging me until I see it again.

Still ESB at the top but TFA is level pegging as second best.
