    3. The Force Awakens
    4. Return of the Jedi

Premise: I was born in 1983 so I grew up with the non-special edition of the OT. I went to see TFA with very high expectations, but I found myself having a lot of "inner struggle", after seeing the movie, because I didn't want to rank it higher than ANH or RotJ.

After six viewings, a lot of online reading to find out what people liked and disliked about TFA and having thoroughly discussed the movie with my friends, I finally made up my mind about the ranking.
I included two ratings for each movie: the first, evaluate the movie as an item in the SW saga, the second as a movie in general (obviously, my general ratings for the tv shows - which I'm including as a reference - take into account that they're cartoon specifically aimed at a younger audience):

    #1. The Empire Strikes Back [93 / 86]
    #2. The Force Awakens [92 / 85]
    #3. A New Hope [87 / 85]
    #4. Return of the Jedi [87 / 83]
    #5. Revenge of the Sith [68 / 56]
    #6. The Phantom Menace [55 / 45]
    #7. Attack of the Clones [53 / 44]
    #8. The Clone Wars (2008 movie) [54 / 40]

    The Clone Wars (2008 tv series) [76 / 75]
    Rebels [73 / 73]

It should be noted that, while I gave ESB a slightly higher overall rating, one of the things that makes Empire a great movie is the fact that it's the second chapter of a trilogy and what it builds on the "shoulders" of ANH - from this point of view, I can say that TFA is "almost better" than ESB (so, in my opinion, they're basically on tie).

Fourth. While arguably a better film than Jedi, my love for it (it was my favourite as a kid) pulls it above The Force Awakens. Even then though, it's definitely not as good as Star Wars and Empire, so..,

    1) The Empire Strikes Back
    2) Star Wars
    3) Return of the Jedi
    4) The Force Awakens
    5) The Phantom Menace
    6) Revenge of the Sith
    7) Attack of the Clones

    1) Empire Strikes Back (10/10)
    2) A New Hope (10/10)
    3) Return Of The Jedi (8.5/10)
    4) The force awakens (8/10)
    5) Revenge of the sith (6/10)
    6) The phantom menace (3/10)
    7) Attack of the clones (-69/10)

What the Force awakens lacked from being a 9/10 was the soundtrack, the villians, and a protagonist who isn't great at everything. Otherwise it would of been above Return of the Jedi. My expectations for Rogue one, it will overtake Jedi If they do a great job, and just by the trailer, I think they will.

OK, I've seen it 4 times in the theater and 2 times on Bluray so I'm becoming familiar to start to make a judgement.

    1. ESB
    2. ANH
    3. TFA
    4. ROTJ

ESB & ANH are in a league of their own. Right now I think I would rank TFA slightly ahead of ROTJ simply cause the movie is more tightly edited. While nothing rivals the throne room scenes, the middle part of the movie comes to a screeching halt when they meet the Ewoks. TFA moves for 2 hours and doesn't stop, plus I love the ending of Rey seeing Luke.

Empire is first for me as I consider it one of the best movies ever made plus it’s my personal favorite movie of all time. As of now I can't decide if I like The Force Awakens more than A New Hope or not. So for now I'll say that they are tied for second.:D Return of the Jedi is just behind them in fourth; I love the lightsaber duel and the space battle but it definitely feels slow in some scenes. Revenge of the Sith is in fifth because it is the best of the prequels, although that is probably not saying much and I actually do like it to a degree. Attack of the Clones and The Phantom Menace are at the bottom for obvious reasons that I will not elaborate on, although the Ewan McGregor bits in AOTC help it over TPM in my opinion.
