I'm placing it 4th after seeing it for the first time today...maybe it will change over time and more viewings.

For me it had a lot going for it, better than all the prequels...wasn't keen on the CGI characters and the overly familiar plot...there's a part where they're all stood round the tactical display deciding what to do about the Starkiller when Poe pipes up with a plan..to me it just sounded like they were trying to get the script finsihed !

Left the cinema a short time ago.

I really enjoyed it up to the 3rd act, it moved at a very good pace and was great fun.

I really liked the new characters, They nailed Finn, Rey and Kylo Ren. Also Hux was great. Captain Phasma just didn't have much menacing features to me. Snoke is intriguing. I am looking forward to seeing how they all progress. Not so sure about Poe but he didn't get a great deal of screen time. Finn was probably my favourite (shortly edging ahead of Kylo and Rey who were also great) wasn't expecting him to be such out of his depth. Well played on that front, I was routing for him a lot.

Kylo channeled a lot of Anakin I though, especially when he lost his temper.

If anything I wish there were less nods to the originals, I feel the frequent Easter eggs held it back somewhat as a new chapter.

Luke, well I'm disappointed about that. He looked p*ssed off and not the person he once was. Looked like he has indeed gone a bit mad. Rey can't be his daughter, you would have thought Leia, Han, Chewie, R2, C3PO...etc would recognise her from a child, assuming they would have met her of course.

Her reaction to Luke and his to her was not emotional enough for me to suspect it was a father/daughter reunion after so many years.

The Starkiller base didn't quite do it for me. Also, Why did R2 just suddenly wake up all of a sudden? I didn't get that.

Poor Han- and Chewie mourning him back at the resistance base : (

I did enjoy it, don't get me wrong. I just didn't leave the cinema feeling pumped, too many major elements of ANH for me. It just felt too much like a tribute to it. Very much looking forward to Episode 8 now to see with what they do with a great new cast, who all did exceptionally well.

Will need to see it again though. Lots of things to process. 4th in the series for me.

Better than any of the prequels, not as good as any of the Originals.

I have very similar feelings as you about the movie. I did enjoy it, and it's certainly entertaining but I left slightly disappointed overall I have to say.

Yeah I'm off to see it again tonight, this time in 3D, for my second viewing.

Decided soon after waking up this morning that I neded to see it again soon to fully take it all in. It was enjoyable last night, maybe I'm looking into it too much. Just couldnt stop the feeling of "meh" and almost shrug of my sholders leaving the theatre.

I felt like I said "I enjoyed it, but..." to my partner a lot (who's not really a fan but did fully enjoy it for what it was) when talking about our views on the walk/drive home.

I am glad a lot of people are thrilled about it, it's great it's getting great reviews from critics and fans alike though, just didnt quite hit the sweet spots (mostly the final act) for me personally after such a good start and middle to the film.

When I walked out of the cinema I weirdly had the complete opposite reaction to TPM.

With TPM I walked out, hyped on action and just willing to love that blasted thing and after about 5 minutes it became clear that I just couldn't.
I think the sentence "It would have been a somewhat good movie if not for JarJar" sums it up nicely.

With TFA I walked out and was surprised at how little excitement I felt. I knew I wanted to see the movie again - and soon - but I wasn't running around in circles, jumping up and down... I wasn't excited.
And then something strange happened, as I was walking through the 3am streets of my medieval city I started to grin and to bounce and as it settled in what I had just seen... it grew bigger and bigger and when I finally arrived home I was mindful of the movie's shortcomings, I knew what I didn't like, but I was completely in love with the movie, its characters and I was elated to watch it again as soon as possible.

I ranked it somewhere right behind ANH, but as the minutes progressed it inched higher and higher as reality set in and overblown expectations gave way to what I had seen.

A movie with flaws, but none of them fatal. Just like Luke's characterization in ANH was less than ideal and the writing was choppy and the story simple beyond compare, in TFA Finn's mishandled marketing and the senseless freighter scene that stole time from some more important scenes in the third act, knocked it down a bit.

But absolutely amazing cinematography and brilliant actors put if firmly in front of Episode IV for me.

I really liked it. Clearly it was better than the prequels. Right now I'd put it close to ROTJ, I'm going to have to see a few more times to really rank it. It had a very different feel than the OT in my opinion. It may end up at number 2 or 3 in my mind.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but man, putting this thing in the PT realm is crazy.

The negatives of this movie are tied directly to the dire need of Disney to rescue the franchise from the PT. So they went 180 degrees toward all things OT, to the point of it being a negative. I don't hold them in low esteem for this, it was required for their four billion dollar investment to pay off. I think they knew for darn sure if we got more PT garbage, most older fans (like me) would have never spent another dime on a SW movie. So most importantly, the quality of this film had to be closer to the OT to win back many of those who were disillusioned by the PT. I place this film in a tie for third in terms of stand alone quality. But given the "state" of the franchise in 2015 compared to 1983, this film accomplished so much more that I am compelled to bump it to third.

I have a request of everyone. If folks could append rankings (1-10) with your list, that would really help frame the context of everyone's list. Here is mine:

    1) ESB (10)
    2) ANH (9)
    3) TFA (7.6)
    4) ROTJ (7.5)
    5) ROTS (4)
    6-7) TPM / ATC (2)

I'm genuinely glad so many of you enjoyed it, but after they got off of Jakku it fell completely apart for me. The crawl stated the whole purpose of the movie was to find Luke Skywalker, but never once was it really even stated WHY? What was so important about finding him? If someone who had never seen a Star Wars film and didn't know Luke's history was to see this movie, they would probably be scratching their heads. I wish there were some establishing shots or even a little exposition about what they had been doing to look for him and what they were hoping he could do if they found him. I really think some scenes that showed the journey of the saber and how it got from Bespin to a treasure chest laying in the middle of some bar basement would have really set a cool mysterious tone and made the payoff of finding the saber and eventually Luke much more satisfying. The movie started to fall apart for me as soon as they got to Maz's place. I thought the rumored scene of her conducting some sort of force 'seance' where she looked into Rey's eyes and showed her visions of her force potential, her past, and her connection to Luke would have been much more effective than what was triggered by her touching the saber. I also thought it was really lazy story telling that there just happened to be spies for both the First Order and the Resistance in the bar so that both factions would show up basically at the same time.

I don't think this film even needed the Starkiller base and can't believe they didn't come up with something more original. I HATED the planning scene where they came up with the attack strategy for the Starkiller. It was so so brief and it didn't seem like they were going up against an impossible threat like in ANH. In ROTJ at least there was a semi-plausible explanation for how Han's commando force was able to penetrate Endor (the stolen shuttle with the access codes). In this movie Han is talking about flying through the refresh rates on the shield. How would Han possibly even know that?--that was really groan inducing for me and seemed like a line from Star Trek the Next Generation. The 'trench run' in this movie had absolutely no drama or tension or payoff. I HATED how easily Phasma lowered the shields. An officer in a regime like and this supposed 'badass' that would have probably died before willingly opening her base to attack. There was no sense of danger to me at all in those scenes. Come to think of it, why didn't the X-Wings just hyperspace through the shield refresh rates like Han did?

I actually kind of enjoyed Kylo Ren--thought he was kind of creepy and interesting. There were some really odd and awkward moments between him and Rey--during the 'mind' face off and also that point at the end of the saber duel where the camera just lingered on their faces for so long--that was really awkward to me. I thought Snoke was a miss--hope he is more menacing in the next installment. If Snoke was some mysterious force user from beyond the Outer Rim I would have loved to have seen some type of montage of how the Imperial Remnant ran across him and how he gained power. Maybe they will do that in the next film.

I just get the feeling that this film was REALLY chopped up at the last minute. There were a lot of rumored scenes that did not make it into the movie and things from the leaked outlines that didn't happen. I agree that an extended cut could really improve the rating for me.

I had only previously seen Super 8 and portions of Abrams's Trek films, so I am not one of the Abrams haters. However I will say that based on this film I cannot stand his directorial style. I totally agree with some of the other assessments I've read here about how his films are like cars driving 100 mph down the freeway that never slows down. Some have speculated that this breakneck style negatively affected John Williams. Unfortunately the score was completely forgettable to me and I was kind of shocked by that. For all the money spent on this movie and the importance placed on it, a lot of the film really felt cheap to me. There were no cool new ships and none of the environments they went to felt unique or special to me. The environments in this film felt like a generic sci-fi pic inhabited by Star Wars characters. I guess that is one place where Lucas shines--no one can build worlds with special little details like he can. Oddly, the only Lucas-like detail that I picked up on was Rey's magically appearing bread or biscuit from the beginning of the movie.

Lastly, did Ben Burtt even work on this movie? One of my very favorite aspects of Star Wars is all of the original and amazing sound effects---so much detail in every little sound. I don't remember any really cool unique sound effects from this movie. Where was the iconic storm trooper blaster sound? Right off the bat in the beginning attack on the village I thought the storm trooper blasters sounded so wimpy. Admittedly this is a minor detail, but what makes Star Wars so special to me is exactly that--the details. The movies are all so audibly and visibly rich--this one did not feel that way to me at all.

Again I went into the movie very excited and I'm glad so many of you liked it. I was really bummed that it didn't feel right to me--born in 1976 and saw ESB and ROTJ at the theaters. I was 4 years old and my neighbor dropped me and her son off at the theater for ESB while she went to see something else. I remember Vader scared the hell out of me so bad that my friend had to go get his mom out of the other theater and sit with us! Remember seeing ROTJ with my dad and laughing so hard at the scene where the Ewok stole the speeder bike. So I have been a lifelong fan. I was disappointed by the prequels but I don't think they are bad films necessarily and they have grown on me over time.

Not trolling at all and I think I layed out honest reasons why the film didn't work for me. Unfortunately I don't think this film is going to hold up over time.
