Because she's strong with the Force. Luke in the movies didn't go through any training with the Force before pulling the exact same thing. The training aspect you're referring to will happen, but it'll be in the second episode...exactly like the Original Trilogy. I'm curious though. What does Star Wars feel like to you? What should the new movie (which, mind you, is the first in a trilogy, so comparing it to a whole trilogy or two whole trilogies is not a fair fight) have included to make it more "Star Wars-y" in your mind?

    Amen.

Don't think of the training aspect and compare it to Rey and Luke. Luke got training to become a Jedi, cause he wanted to be one and is the last of the Jedi. Rey is force driven, shes the force awakens. She will gain training not in a Jedi sense but just as in a whole. Yoda said the force is all around so wielding a lightsaber doesnt make her a Jedi or should people believe you need to be a Jedi to fight with a lightsaber. I think certain fans view it as "Finn and Rey need to be Jedi's since they wield a lightsaber." not the case in my opinion. Darth Sidious doesnt wield a saber in Ep. VI, just uses the force. lightsabers are just a throwback bonus to give it that old (episode I-III) feel, in a fighting sense. Ep. IV-VI was single battle. But TFA was amazing. I need to go see it again without all the excitment.

May the force be with you...

I would have liked to seen a much slower progression. Luke had a slow progression, Rey did not. Luke at the end of the A New Hope was just taking his steps into the force. At Hoth he struggled to use the force to grab his lightsaber. After Yoda's training at Cloud City in the fight sith Vader he grabbed it with ease.

They must answer why Rey could do what she did so easily, being introduced to the force and untrained. We can't say it was because she learned through Kylo mind because he is a dark side user and knows how to use the dark side.

How did she progress and grab the saber from Kylo so easily? It seems they have much to explain. How is Kylo able to freeze an electric blaster bolt but not regular bolts but must deflect them?

It is alot to explain. In the original films the force was very mysterious.

When Vader sensed Luke while the shuttle was coming to Endor, watch him closely. He senses Luke then reaches out even further and senses the rest of them. "Leave THEM to me".

Darth Vader could sense feelings in his son mind, but not do what Kylo does. He did not extract information. "Your thoughts betray you. Your FEELINGS for them are STRONG" well he did with the "sister" thing I guess. But with regular people he couldn't invade their mind like Kylo, and he was the Chosen One. "What have you done with the plans they sent you?"

There are many things that need answers. I have only touched a few.

I think the only real explanations for this is:
a She's had training in the past we just don't know about it yet.
b She's just alot stronger in the force than you guys think stronger than luke and anakin.

Dude, I respect your opinion about the movie. But I can't sit here and let you get away with saying that TPM lightsaber battle was better than TFA.

TFA honestly looked like they were beating the crap out of each other. I cared for the characters, Especially Rey. But, I didn't care two bits who died at the end of the TPM fight because to me, that fight has nothing going to have be emotionally invested in. And trust me I just sat through the prequels,(Which sucked, hard)

Not necessary, I enjoy Yoda and the spiritual depth he provided in The Empire Strikes Back quite a lot:

LUKE Vader. Is the dark side stronger? YODA No... no... no. Quicker, easier,
    more seductive.

I don't think its fair to talk about TFA like its vapid or hollow.
Without even talking about the other characters, the fact they show us a darksider who is actually *desperate* for power rather than megalomaniacal,
who literally is trapped in litany and mortification,
transcends the rather stamp sized sketches of good and evil we have seen so far.
Now a villain who is just buzzing on hatred was fine in *that* context, but going forward wouldn't you prefer something a little more spiritually relatable and therefor scary?

Rey will get that progression in the next episode. This was to show the audience that she is strong in the Force. Had they a trained Force User aboard and an extra 45 minutes maybe we would have seen that progression. But if they're going the route that Rey has had some training previously then it will be a justifiable scene in retrospect.
I agree saying she learned it through Kylo isn't the best justification. We don't know if she's completely untrained though. Persuading the Stormtrooper to let her go and using the Force to get the lightsaber could be used in an argument to actually say that Rey was trained, she just doesn't remember it. Think of it like riding a bike - you might not remember when you learned, but once you get back on the bike for a bit you'll be riding like you did before (albeit probably a bit rusty ;))

All are entitled to their opinions but in simple terms how is this not a Star Wars movie like the original? There are super bad guys in a big ass battle station, freaking x wings and tie fighters, light sabers, tons of coincidences, cool fight scenes, decent dialogue, people using the force who just learned about it, Han being Han, chewie being chewie, imminent peril for the good guys, not all flying around light saber fights, a funny dude(bodega) a cocky dude(Poe), and a hot chick(Ridley).
I am 36 years old and have loved Star Wars all my life. For 2+ hours in a movie theater I got to forget that my job is ending, I have too many bills to pay, at broke ass truck, and a wife who is pissed at me more than not lol.
Star Wars is about the adventure in us all. The smiles and the heartbreak. The good guy in us all winning. If I want plot and dialogue I will go watch one of those artsy independent movies. I wanted Star Wars and in my opinion I got it

I expect to find out Rey has had training and had her mind wiped to protect her. If not a force technique at least by some tech along the lines of reconditioning they mentioned in reference to Finn. They will circle back and explain Kylo probing her mind broke through the mental barriers. I think the other point to mention is we know some force users have powers that are specific to them or rarer then others. In addition the Jedi and Sith aren't the only ones that use the force or have force based abilites i.e the Witches of Dathomire so there is a lot of room for explanations.

You are not the only one that felt that way my friend as I too along with some other friends didn't feel like this felt like a SW movie but more like a regular Sci Fi film with SW guest stars.

Jar-Jar can definitely be read as racist. I don't think it was intentional, but he definitely gets really darn close to some really ugly stereotypes in American history. This doesn't mean you have to hate him, but it's good to be able to see why others may see it the way they do!

I absolutely LOVED this movie. It had EVERYTHING I could have hoped for and more. I never could have dreamed back when I saw the 1st movie, way back in 77, that it would ever reach this point.

IMO, 99% of the complaints are simply hating, by those that wanted something different in the film.

Rey's quick rise of force powers are little different than Luke's, as was pointed out earlier, after all Luke pulled a lightsaber, and blocked blaster bolts on the Falcon, all with no training. Also, Anakin was able to fly a pod racer, the only human to do so, before any force training, and it was kinda clear he used the force to do so. More, Rey is shown to be a fighter of skill when she 1st meets Fin, and her familiarity with the Falcon is even explained in a discussion between her and Han about the condenser, showing it was clear she had worked on the ship before, at least IMO.

The only real "flaws" I found were with the Starkiller, but they made little difference in the overall tale, I could let them go with ease.
