i think the going line around here is that if it's in the book and it doesn't contradict the movie (and subsequent films to come) it's canon.

As I said, deleted scenes count unless states otherwise. shaak Ti dying in the deleted scenes of ROTS wasn't canon. But other than that, everything else is.

It was quite painful to watch. Did anyone else notice the subtle full body gaze Ren gave Rey in the forest of Takodana?

... No, no, no. In the forest, with the mask on- I am not talking about the interrogation scene.

Yes, his creepy leering knew no limits. It made it so much more satisfying when she crushed his proverbial Force balls.

Yep, he totally checked her out...Also, in the novelization he touches her face and doesn't remove his hand even when he doesn't read her mind at the moment...

But not only that. When he was interrogating her he was watching her face and lips and basically...swallowing...Kind of cute and creepy at the same time...
Not really Anakin's creepy leering lecherous looks that made Padme (and all of us!) uncomfortable, just very subtly watching her face up close and being totally distracted...When I watched that scene the first time I simply couldn't believe what is happening and my jaw just dropped. I found it totally fascinating...

And also while watching her face fascinated, absent mindedly reading her random thoughts and feelings and in the book the dialogue is even more revealing as he is shown to stop a way of behaviour if he sensed he is offending her (like the line: "You are really just a scavenger...") and changing the topic to avoid causing her unnecessary discomfort...

“Is it true?” he finally asked. “You’re just a scavenger?” She didn’t respond, and, perhaps sensing her embarrassment, he changed the subject. “Tell me about the droid.”
    and

“I know you’ve seen the map,” he repeated. “It’s what I need. At the moment, it is all that I need.” When she maintained her silence, he almost sighed. “I can take whatever I want.”
Her muscles tightened. “Then you don’t need me to tell you anything.”
“True.” He rose, resigned. “I would have preferred to avoid this. Despite what you may believe, it gives me no pleasure. I will go as easily as possible—but I will take what I need.”
some double entendre in a couple of lines too...

Although it sort of sounds creepy, it was actually not. He was not acting like a creep. He just looked like someone who is so fascinated that has forgotten the urgency and importance of his main purpose...

And then when he suddenly remembered he actually has a goal (to find out about the map) he moves away from her to start the actual purposeful probing...Very interesting...In short, I notice that when he just randomly reads her mind he is super close to her face (in the book he is actually touching her cheek at times BTW) and when he remembers he has a goal and actual information he needs to find he moves away and probes her mind from a distance. I sort of suspect the way the scene is shot is not a coincidence at all...

i'm glad it's played a lot more subtle in the film. restraint is so necessary or this could go bad fast.

Yes. I think this scene was probably one of the ones that they took a long time to decide how to handle and probably did numerous takes...The final result is rather good I think...They should have kept the removing of the restraints by Kylo in that scene though IMO (as in the novelization), that would have made it less threatening...

i agree! i was surprised in the book when she wasn't restrained. that makes so much more sense if his goal was to disarm her.

but the choice is actually a good one. i think i mentioned previously: if she's not restrained and he has to physically (through the Force or by then putting her restraints) pin her down to probe her, that makes it pretty icky (seeing him do it is different from thinking he did it or wondering if someone else did).

but also, being physically restrained, her ability to nevertheless hurt him by turning the probe back on him is all the more powerful.
