Your post TLJ ranking of Star Wars movies

Yes I guessed as much but this is all subjective there is no objectively better movie, we all have different tastes and this thread would be pointless.

I find linear ranking very problematic but let's go:

1. ESB
2. TLJ
3. ANH

5. ROTJ

6. ROTS
7. AOTC
8. TPM

Lines represent larger diferences of quality, IMHO.
I don't know where I'd put RO and I consider the side films to be somewhat different and hard to compare.
If I absolutely needed to include it, it would be in the 2nd category, alongside TFA and ROTJ.

 

Haha yea, I acknowledge that Empire and New Hope are better but my personal favorite is Jedi.

 

Interesting to read through these. I've had a running theory this weekend reading fan reaction that fans who liked Rogue One more than TFA, or those that liked the prequels are the source of the TLJ hate. And while I haven't done a regression analysis of these posts or anything like that, from a quick scan, my theory appears to be ringing true.

Mine are as follows:
The Empire Strikes Back (The greatest movie ever made, in any genre)

Star Wars (only because it's the original, if I'm being honest I should probably rank it fourth on this list)

The Last Jedi (a technical masterpiece and a game changer imo)

The Force Awakens (probably more fun than TLJ)

Return of the Jedi (nostalgia and a great ending keep this one on the likeable side of this list)

Couldn't care less about any the other ones, but I'll try to rank them:

The Phantom Menace (big disappointment for sure and the story was a hot mess, but I had fun watching it the first time anyway)

Rogue One (even thinking about watching this pointless fan film bores me to tears)

Revenge of the Sith (or as I like to call it Revenge of the S**t)

Attack of the Clones (the worst movie ever made by people who actually have the money and know-how to make movies and worse than many made by people who don't)

I love the prequels, especially for what they add to the mythology. But in my ranking I'm ranking my favorite films. TLJ is something we've never seen in a star wars film - an actual masterpiece of storytelling and direction. For me, the detail Rian put into pushing every character forward makes this one of the best films of the series. I had to rank it below ROTJ and ANH because those really got my imagination running wild with the world they created.

I don't dislike any of these films and I try to appreciate what they have that I like - I actually love TPM even though it is 2nd to last in my ranking. But I'm also they type that enjoys nearly all of the universe, from the comics to the books.

My view on TLJ has moved from mixed to negative. I was not misinterpreting the film's subversion. Sadly the creative decisions for the Ocho do play on TFA vis-a-vis "Wait till 8", and I've had to drop it below ANH. I've been mulling if ROTJ should remain above TPM. Sorry, but, that's what happens when you wake up to see- ZOMG!! Not a spoiler thread! lol.

I saw The Last Jedi for the second time tonight and loved it even more.

 

Since most of us have seen the movie now I wanted to make this unofficial Cantina pooling of the films.

no Star Wars movie has affected me like TLJ has in the last few days. it made me happy, it made me sad, it surprised me... it challenged me in ways i did not think possible. it is my favorite SW movie.

 

Screw recency bias, I'd actually agree with @Maximus on this one. After watching it several times - the new movie, in addition to feeling the most thematically mature of the Star Wars films, feels like the perfect extension to The Empire Strikes Back - both in mythos and in spirit. Thus:
