SPECULATION Is Luke Rey's Father? - The Evidence For and Against

I think Rey is Luke's daughter. Here's a couple reasons why that I've not seen mentioned or really pondered. I think that Rey was born on the planet of Luke's Jedi Temple. It explains why she has the flower in her AT-AT home. Thus also Leia sent Ben away to train with Luke and his students, during which time Rey wasn't born yet or his wife became pregnant with her. A few short years later she was dropped off on Jakku by someone and things became darker and the need to protect her from Snoke and her true destiny until the right time. It explains how Ben knows who Rey is as evident by his "What girl? " comment. Thus I have a small feeling he's the one who left her there before he did all the terrible things because, on one level like his grandfather before him, he questioned why he was doing this or he just knew her at a small age. We just don't know Ben's motivation for joining Snoke and the Knights of Ren yet but, I think it was to do with wanting to be more like his own father, Han Solo. Also lastly to be noted, Luke knows who Rey is according to The Force Awakens script.

 

We have little history of Luke's thoughts and actions over the last 30 years. We do know that recently had had reasons to keep things from Leia. It's not crazy to suggest he has done that previously over the last 30 years.

This is why I'm not tied to any theory about Rey because there's simply so much we don't know.

I don't think this timeline works. Or it's unclear.

 

Someone posted a timeline somewhere, I can't remember where. It leaves a lot to wonder and desire at this point.

Amanda, Spock's mother fiddles with his shirt and collar. She says that "As always, whatever you choose to be, you will have a proud mother."

In the novelizations and books (Rey's Story), Leia fiddles with Rey's jacket before she goes off to Luke. This was probably scripted but not in the final edit.

 

It could go either way at this point.

a careful read of the text doesn't actually leave much room to believe Ren knew Rey before TFA.
i believed this at first, but after much study, the novel doesn't bear it out and the movie even less so.

 

I agree that if the quote is supposed to mean Leia and Rey have never met each other then it doesn't look good for Rey Skywalker, unless Luke never knew he had a daughter.

The galaxy had decades of peace after ROTJ, so Leia wasn't busy with the Resistance until much later. She had to either drop Ben off at the academy or Luke had to pick him up, so it's not like they were light years apart. So I don't se why Leia wouldn't have met her baby niece.

BUT... this is hardly set in stone. You can't reunite with those you haven't met.

As for Luke knowing who she is at the end, careful!

The script says "he doesn't have to ask who she is or what she's doing there. His look says it all".

It can be interpreted as "he doesn't need to ask out loud who she is because his look is inquisitive enough".

"In response" to his silent question, she pulls out the saber.

The attention to detail is strong with you.

 

While I have made it known that at this point I don't think Rey is Luke's daughter, I do believe that there still is a good chance she is. However, I have to agree with @master_shaitan in that if she is Luke's daughter he is unaware of it and she is unaware of it for that matter. The "I'm your father" moment has been done and as much as many complain about TFA being to much like ANH having Luke reveal himself that way will be stale. I think it would be a more compelling story if the two of them discover it along the way of the mutual journey together

 

It's possible Luke didn't know he had a daughter and found out later. Perhaps he thought she was dead. There's so many different ways they can go with this story. If it does turn out that Luke is the father my hope is the mother is still alive. It would even be better if she's on the dark side or conflicted in some way. That would fit into the Skywalker narrative and yet separate itself from the original trilogy.

 

The obsession of people about Rey and Luke is scary.
