I do not think being Force Sensitive provides you the ability to absolutely sense everyone's true identity. If it did, Leia would have said, "Sup, bro?" instead of "Aren't you a little short for a storm trooper?" Vader would have known his son was with Kenobi. He would have known Luke was in the X-wing her was shooting at. etc. etc. etc.

Difference was she didn't know she had a brother at that point and had only been with Luke for a short time after they were born. But if Luke had a family - wife and kid, then nothing suggests Leia wouldn't have known them. And she'd likely have seen a lot of Rey until she went missing. Thus she would recognise her. Like I say, in appearance alone young Rey and old Rey still have the same hairstyle. But if Leia spent time with her as well, she's recognise that through the Force.

This suggests to me that if Luke was the father then he wouldn't have known it.

Then Han's sacrifice would have been worthless. But let's hear what Leia would have to say about that piece of theory:

    - Nothing suggest Leia would have known them.
    - Nothing suggests Leia would have seen a lot of Rey until she went missing
    - Nothing suggests Leia would recognize a toddler years later through the force

The reason we're going in a circles about this is because you suggest this "put a nail in the coffee" in the Luke theory. You can think anything you want, but nothing above is anything more than conjecture on your part. Conjecture is fine, but that's all it is.

She's Luke's sister. They seemingly have a good relationship until Luke disappears (she sent her son to him). She talks about Luke "coming home".

The above reply does. It would be inexplicable if Leia and Luke didn't have a close relationship and didn't see one another before Luke disappeared. She sends Ben to him etc etc etc

Young Rey and older Rey look the same. As I say, Leia would've known Luke had a family. She would've known them. And nothing suggests Luke suffered the trauma of losing a daughter. If he had, Leia wouldn't have risked sending the conflicted Ben to a grieving father. It's the Jedi slaughter that sends Luke into exile. If he lost a wife and daughter prior to this then reacting worse to the jedi slaughter and disappearing would be weird. Therefore, Leia would've known if Luke had a child. She would've known this child. And she would surely have some kind of connection with her through the Force - and she has the same haircut.

I didn't say that. I said there is one vestige left of that theory - that Luke (and thus Leia) never knew Luke had a child. That Luke's wife disappeared before she gave birth.

Like I say, if Luke had a daughter and raised her for X amount of years then Leia would've known her too. And if Luke lost Rey then he would be grief stricken. There is no indication this happened. Leia and Han would surely discuss such a thing on screen else it's a cop out. Young Rey looks like old Rey (hairstyle) and is an orphan on Jakku yet no connection is made by Han or Leia to Luke. Even when Leia learns that this Force sensitive orphan's destiny is to find Luke, she doesn't think she is Luke's daughter? Nah, don't buy it.

If Luke is her father, which I do admittedly find hard to believe, then it must be that he never knew she ever existed.

And this is conjecture. Posting it over and over doesn't change that it's your speculation based on your interpretation of events. It doesn't mean your theory is wrong, but the other theories are still possible.

I obviously can't say anything is 100% factual. All I can do, all anyone can do here is speculate based on what we know. Logic and the evidence thus far dictates to me that if Luke had a daughter that he raised, then Leia would've known her too and thus recognised her. These forums are here for debating as much as discussion and until someone actually argues seriously against this, I shall continue with my argument. Like I say, nothing points to the notion that Luke & Leia wouldn't have had a close relationship with one another's families in the build up to the Jedi massacre. Quite the contrary. Han and Leia don't mention anything in TFA and Leia even sends Ben to be with Luke.

My point is - if Leia knew young Rey then she would see the similarity. Same hair. Orphan. Force sensitive.

I know it is. But why wouldn't she have known of Rey (and know her well) if she was once in Luke's life? That is my point. ;)

We know nothing of Rey between the ages of 1-5 so making any assumptions about how well anyone would know a small child seems a little ridiculous to me. If I knew a 3 or 4 year old child well it's very unlikely I would recognize them at 20 years old. We also don't if Rey was in Luke's life during those years or if Luke was interacting with Leia during that period.

If Yoda believed that the Jedi made a mistake fighting on behalf of the Republic it is possible that Luke distanced himself from the New Republic and Leia after the fall of the Sith.

Again - same hair. Orphan. Force sensitive. Potentially "looks like Luke or his wife". To say Leia wouldn't have known Rey goes against her relationship with Luke which the backstory to TFA thus far makes it sound as solid as ever. And you say"We also don't if Rey was in Luke's life during those years", but that is my point - if she wasn't in his life at all then Leia not knowing her would make sense. But if she was in his life then Leia would know of her. At least, that is the more likely scenario.

He might distance the Jedi from the Republic, but not himself from Leia. Leia sends Ben to Luke. That tells me that there was a solid relationship there. And Leia says about bringing Luke home. That isn't something you say about someone you rarely saw.

I can't help but think that the toddler hair business was, at most, for the audience to immediately know who the child was in the flash back.

30 years have passed since Return of the Jedi and the Force Awakes starts with Luke not seeing Leia for years. We don't know what their relationship has been over that 30 year period or if Luke has been around all the time. Certainly there's been periods where they've been close, but we can just assumed they were attached at the hip for decades. Luke could have taken another one to five year sabbatical twenty years ago for all we know.

Isn't it odd that Ben Solo wasn't immediately sent to Luke for training? Why did they wait until he was a teenager? Or maybe they did in the past. We simply don't have enough back story.

Well if we all went by facts and didn't speculate there would be pretty boring conversation in here.

Id like to know why Luke and Leia wouldn't have seen much of each other and what evidence there is for this.

It just strikes me that even if Leia didn't see much of Rey when she was with Luke she'd still be struck by a girl turning up who is the same age and has the same appearance as Luke's daughter; Is powerful in the Force; Is seeking Luke; Is an orphan and was alone on a faraway planet.

Coupled with her force powers, Leia would have to be an idiot not to see the connection.

This "same appearance" thing you keep mentioning is maddening. My 20 year old self looked nothing like my 5 year old self. I'm the oldest of five siblings. None of us looked the same after 15 years. The fall back is "she's dressed the same" as if she was always dressed the same way.

Yes, the "baboon's ass" hairdo looked nothing like the ANH bun fun.

If that was the only thing I was saying, sure get mad.
But It's not just her appearance. It's her Force power. It's being an orphan. It's being the right age. It's the destiny to be with Luke. It's the emotional/Force bond.
So by itself, the hairstyle and "other features" might not be rock solid evidence. But with everything else...It would at the very least rouse suspicion.
And you keep saying that you looked nothing like your 5 year old self - well, the problem is, Rey does. So that argument is kind of moot.

    Folks, if I may...

The quote that's being discussed says nothing about Leia recognizing Rey or not.

It says Leia and Rey have never met before, point blank. It's still a debatable quote, because right afterwards J.J contradicts himself by saying they are having a reunion. But whether or not Leia physically recognized Rey is irrelevant.

In terms of that quote - yes perhaps. Although it might be more of a case of them not knowing they have met before.
I just don't think they have met which is fine by me because I don't think Rey is Luke's daughter. And if she was Luke's and Luke knew about her then Leia would've known her too.

The main thing for me is that, even before this quote, Leia shows no signs of having known Rey. And if she did and she said something off screen about her in any capacity to Han, Chewie, Finn, Poe...whoever, then that would be a massive cop out and terrible writing.

So in-keeping with my inane habit of repeating myself, this is why I think the only way Rey can be Luke's is if he never knew she was born.

Yep, it's unlikely Rey/Leia have ever formed any kind of bond/relationship of any kind.
Or not. If Luke told Leia everything about himself she'd know his location. Obviously, he doesn't tell her everything,
