Indeed... so, very quick post for the benefit of those who have no idea what I'm talking about.

In a story which I promise I am not making up, former pop star Brian managed to fall out of his car, which then rolled over him, while reversing. He blamed this on over consumption of baked potatoes and a need to be sick while driving. He did sustain some pretty nasty injuries at the time - but went on to fully recover.

    [/OffTopic]

Apologies... please continue the JJ vs. The Metaphorical Bus thread below

One of the nicest snacks out I've ever had is a tuna baked potato. I wish I could recommend the cafe but I think it would be seen as advertising.

Hmm, I’ve never tuned a baked potato. Is it like tuning a piano? Probably more sour cream . . . or less maybe?

The Chewbacca one genuinely worked for me. I was shocked and horrified and sad when the transport blew up. I was like, noooo, not Chewie too! We've already lost Han and Luke, and I figured probably Leia soon too. But then I was just happy and relieved more than anything when I saw that Chewie was still alive.

I do mostly agree about the others though.

It's exactly like tuning a piano except more dolphins are harmed in the process.

I love Chewie and want him to appear in future projects. However, that event would have been more meaningful if she had actually killed him. It felt like a cheat to me. "I want to shock the audience and make them feel this loss, but I also don't really want to kill Chewbacca, I'll just have both".

Chewie has a 'canon' son, so Joonas could have returned playing him.
I think it would have been kind of moving if he'd followed Han into the next life.....they were brothers.

I like that we still have Chewie at the end of the saga and he gets to react to the death of the last of his comrades from the original trilogy.

Plus he steals every damn scene he's in. You can't kill that.

I think the only ones thrown under a bus were Kylo/Ben fans.

Nah, I really like Kylo/Ben Solo, one of my absolute favorite ST characters, thought he had a very strong and dramatic arc, and I quite like TRoS, too (apart from the dagger plot, which I find contrived). No one's under the buss. This is all hyperbole.

You know, I really didn't think he was that popular aside from the reylo fandom so I'm glad to hear that.
He's absolutely hated by most of the members of the JCF, and before I was banned I noticed quite a few of those who liked him left - the amount of flak we got was too much to bear for many of us.

Well, I'm certainly no reylo (if I even understand what that means), but hating the character of Ben Solo/Kylo Ren is pretty idiotic, IMHO. Now, being disappointed in the direction the character was given, that is fair enough - for example, there's a common critique against Han Solo's development (or lack there off) in RotJ, which is fine... we like different things; it is the not-being-able-to-let-it-go that's the problem, the notion that "I" own this character and any development or direction in the character that doesn't fit my head-canon/wants is a personal attack on me. That there is equally idiotic.

Around here, you will typically not receive flak unless you behave confrontationally, is stubborn and unreasonable, or hand out flak yourself. Be respectful to others and don't dwell on stuff forever and ever, and you'll have a good time here. And if you should receive unreasonable flak, there's always the "Warn" button to flag issues (or you could just drop a staffer or mod a PM) :)

    Enjoy!

Maybe I'm just a bad example, but I hate Ben Solo/Kylo Ren. I hate his archetype and the amount of love he gets. I understand it, but it's like...well, it feels like people who like him are pointing to a house on fire and saying that the fire is good. While I'm disappointed in his arc and dislike how it went, my feelings for that are ultimately separate from the character itself, as I would still probably hate Kylo had he lived (which is ironically what I wanted, but not for his sake).
But yeah, I don't let my hate of the character rule me, or give it control of how I feel about Star Wars or the ST as a whole though. Besides, it's the disappointments that live in my head free of charge, not the hated things!:D

EDIT: But respecting oneself and others if they like something one hates is absolutely key however. We're all on the same page, despite our different views and likings. One isn't wrong for liking something another person doesn't .

Which is something I've tried to point out on the JCF, but I find it hurtful and unfair to be accused of some real life nastiness because of my fondness for a fictional character. One poster even accused me of 'putting Adam Driver before John Boyega as black male lead' because I said I though the ST should have been Ben's story in a Finn thread.
I meant no offense, I was simply referring to him being the last Skywalker, but as we all know, sometimes threads get derailed and we are off talking about something else entirely!

To get back on subject. No JJ did not throw himself under a bus. I don't think that's even possible. They threw RJ under the bus and was like oh we didn't know what direction he was going to take. As if he just made a movie without any authorization. He just went rogue and made a star wars movie and didn't tell anyone. Lol. The whole trilogy was a big mess, and no one wants to eat the turd sandwich they made.

Well said. I was going over things in my head recently, and it was amazing just how they ignored so many of Rian Johnson's plot developments.

Some were actually petty - such as bringing back Kylo Ren's mask, erasing Rose (poor Kelly), and even Rey's costume change. Believe it or not, costumes have quite a role to play in the Skywalker saga. Look at Luke - he started off wearing an (almost) white outfit, then khaki, which signified his gradual change from callow youth to experienced soldier, then in ROTJ he wore black - but with a white lining, signifying that no matter how much the 'dark' tempted him, he was still very much 'in the light'.
Rey went from wearing her hair in the same 'do she'd had since childhood in TFA to wearing it loose at the end of TLJ, signifying she'd put the past behind her and who she'd came from no longer mattered - then in TROS she was once again wearing it in her 'little girl' style. And let's not forget the 'pure white' outfit - showing that Rey is pure of soul, no matter how 'tempted' she is and will NEVER even 'consider' going dark.

The fact is, Terrio and Abrams tried to pretend TROS didn't exist. Everything RJ did was ignored or retconned, from Rey's parentage to the Finn/Rose relationship to the 'shades of grey' element in Kylo Ren - where TLJ showed his 'humanity' TROS stuck the mask back on and showed him stomping around like Darth Vader, and they actually shot a disturbing scene where he tortures Chewie. This is why his redemption didn't really work - it was far too rushed. And why the kiss didn't work - we never saw any affection in Rey for him, and no grief for his loss, which is why even reylos didn't like it. Add to that the silly 'retcon' of Poe's background, killing off Hux to replace him with an older carbon copy, throwing in Finn's FS as an afterthought - making 'the Force' responsible for his rebellion at the FO actually demeans his character - and I agree with a youtuber who described it as 'almost vengeful.'

    It was unprofessional, at least.

The reason why Rey has the same hair & clothes in TRoS as in TFA is because they were reusing TFA shots of Leia with Rey (the hug, for instance), and it was easier for Rey to switch back to the old look and just reuse Daisy Ridley's TFA performance, then to have a brand new performance and do computer wizardry to match it to the reused Leia shots. Path or least resistance.
