This might be the first movie I see a second time in the theater since...ROTJ!
Hey, anyone else see any costumed moviegoers? I guess we all have some nerdy tendencies, I mean, we're posting on a friggin star wars forum, but isn't dressing like a jedi to go see the movie pretty much a contract for eternal virginity?

Amazing, you've copied and pasted this same line in multiple other comments sections or other sites reviews along with rotten tomatoes. "You just gotta go see it many more times and is so much to take in and process". No it was awful and are marketing using fake reviews trying to squeeze every penny they can out of this turd. Really this movie was a slap in the face to so many fans who have invested so much of our time and money into this world that's been created from Lucas, and is an example of putting this franchise into the hands of film makers that clearly had no background as a fan of or passion involved in Star Wars.

Eventhough I enjoyed the movie, nothing of what you said was wrong.
It feels like a lot of interesting things started to build up just to crash afterwards
This is why my stance on this ST is the same as when I saw TFA, wait and see. When the whole trilogy is out, we'll be able to see what was disappointing and what ended up being good.

You talk like that's some new phenomenon. You seem to forget that for awhile when we had only 6 movies, most of the fanbase hated half of Star Wars.

Luke had a moment of weakness because he believed Ben he was too far gone, but felt guilty almost immediately. Trouble is, that's when Kylo woke up. What for Luke was moment of weakness, for Kylo was betrayal - hence the destruction of the Temple.

Because he made a mistake? That is part of Rian's story - heroes are flawed and they can come from anywhere.

It's much like how Anakin saw Padame die in child birth then turned to the dark side in order to save her, which instead directly led to her death.

Luke saw Kylo turn evil and tried to stop this (by way of murder before having a change of heart), but his actions ended up causing Kylo to turn after feeling betrayed by his uncle.

Luke did not attempt to kill Ben. Did we watch the same movie? Luke went in to Ben's bedroom and yes, ignited a LS, but he said to Rey (yes I believe Luke was being honest) that the desire to do so slipped away immediately. Luke is anything but perfect, he has flaws. Luke was afraid of Ben, and knew that the darkness had already entered him via Snoke. Yet he chose not to strike him down. It was a foolish mistake for Luke on many levels, but a human mistake none the less. Luke is not perfect and we see his atonement for this in his arc when he does what he does at the end of the film.

Just returned from seeing this and I don't really know what to think.
I've been a lifelong fan of StarWars and came out of the cinema feeling ..meh
It had some bits I enjoyed but a lot I didn't recognise as StarWars.
things that annoyed me : Canto Bight attempts of humour , superman Leia , Kylo/Rey facetime force messaging, Holdo's suicide run ( surely they could get a droid to turn the ship around)
Generally the whole way this trilogy is treating the OT characters, Han, Luke and Leia generally being losers and having sad endings. I would rather this trilogy had nothing to do with the Skywalkers and had been set in the future 100 or so years down the track.
Rian Johnson will probably find it a lot easier pleasing StarWars fans(especially older ones) with a new trilogy with unfamiliar characters that we havnt already loved for a lifetime.
    I just didn't love it
I know there will be people who loved it and that's great for them. That's what having your own opinion is about. We all feel differently

Did anybody else notice Rey had taken the Jedi books from the force tree at the end of the film. "PAGE TURNERS, THEY ARE NOT"

Had to edit this entry somewhat after the 4th viewing.

I have a bad feeling about this! No, not about the The Last Jedi, I have very mixed emotions about this movie, (it's taken a long time to process), but I did notice the absence of the line, "I have a bad feeling about this". Please someone correct me if I have this totally wrong, but I've seen the movie 4 times now and I still did not notice the line being spoken. Is this the only Star Wars movie where this phrase has not been said?

Although The Last Jedi does have it's flaws, I think as Star Wars fans and the vast diversity of opinions within the community, we will never get a 'perfect' movie. I think what bothers me with the 'sequel' movies is that there doesn't feel as if there is a defined and mapped out story. Say what you want about George Lucas, but at least he had a pretty good idea of the direction and the storyline in which the saga was headed. Now it feels that everything is written and invented on-the-fly for the sake of sensationalism and marketing. J.J. Abrahms now has to pick up where Rian Johnson left off and he will ultimately decide the fate of the final installment. It leaves me with very little faith there was, or is, a master storyline of what constitutes the beginning, middle, and end of this trilogy.

My like for a Star Wars movie is usually based on whether or not I can totally immerse myself within it, and The Last Jedi did that for me. I hear a lot of bad reviews about the uselessness of the Canto Bight scenes and Finn's/Rose's arc, but again, I was totally immersed and in awe just being able to see another pocket of the galaxy and planets/characters/creatures I hadn't otherwise seen before. I really enjoyed Benicio Del Toro's character because he was a 'scoundrel', and Star Wars needs more scoundrels. I hope to see more of him in the future, or even a book or comic series....I'm sure there is much more to tell about this character.

The humor was good, but I felt it was a little bit too much at times and misplaced at others - sometimes less is more. The visual effects were amazing. The principal character's development, though only a few hours older than The Force Awakens, kept my interest and constantly guessing outcomes throughout the film, but they oftentimes didn't seem plausible. The locations were awesome and the creatures were new and inventive. I even loved the Porgs!..which i didn't think I would when going into the film initially.

It's very odd that when I initially saw The Force Awakens I hated it, but after watching it many more times I grew to like it, much as I do the prequels (don't slaughter me for that one). What's strange now is when I first saw The Last Jedi, I loved it, but now after watching it a few more times I am growing to dislike it...more and more. I am torn in so many directions on this one. I will leave all the nitty gritty to the rest of the reviewers on this thread, but my final resolve on this movie is that Rian Johnson clearly does not understand Star Wars. I always thought I would remain a staunch 'Expanded Universer', but I have given this new trilogy the chance it deserves. I am now feeling the pull back to the EU where I, at least, felt there was an understanding of this universe.

Man. Have never been so dissapointed in a Star Wars film before today. I had so much hope and excitement for this film and was totally letdown. It makes me sad how much I didn’t like this movie. I like the TFA a lot but I felt like this didn’t build off anything that happened in the last film. Huge gripe for me to was there was not one lightsaber on lightsaber fight. Idk how you can have a starwars movie without a lightsaber fight..Way too many cheesy scenes, canto bight was really boring, actually most of the film was boring minus the snoke scene. Idk what to say. This movie kind of broke my heart. Didn’t even leave me excited for the next one... :(

Boy oh boy, I got a lot to say... A lot of good and bad..

    Good:

Overall just about what I wanted it to be.. Great action sequences. Tooks some risks. Great acting. The ending half of film had me on edge of my seat.. The movie took some changes.. especially with Luke... I have mixed feelings about some of his choices though, which is good and a bad thing..

The fight with Snoke's guard was amazing and Finn VS Phasma was short but good..

    Yoda was great surprise..

I lost it when Leia used the force.. Was so happy.. Rose's theme and Canto Bight were cool!

Luke and Leia reuniting and their theme from ROTJ made me tear up!!

On to the not so good aspects...
Honestly surprised they killed off a lot of characters.

    I'm probably forgetting a lot..

The music.. Honestly super disappointed with it.. Wasn't that memorable.. The action music was good. And the returning themes are as good as previous movies. But as for new themes, wasn't great. Which sucks...To be fair Rose's theme was good, I liked it. Just wish we could of heard lil more of it, or extended version of it.. I'm guessing my thoughts on this will change a little.. But really was hoping for some more Orchestra stuff.. And the main crawl theme was same as TFA, which is fine.. And the lil music as the shots pans down safter crawl was same tool as ANH.Sounded like it was re-recorded but same tune, which really bugged me.

The scenes on Canto Bight while good, kinda felt like it slowed down the movie..

So Rey's parents are nobodies..?? Noice....

Ok I see thanks, but what strike did young Ben block with his own lightsaber ?? was it wind that pushed Luke's hand ?

Ben wakes up, and sees the lightsaber, Luke has already changed his mind at this point but it's too late. Ben solo gets his lightsaber and strikes at Lukes. I think it is ballsy of Rian to make Luke do this, but it is only a moment of weakness, and he regrets it at once. The way Luke describes it to Rey was very believable to me, especially considering that Luke have seen the worst of the dark side before.

The issue is for me that they constructed a flaw that Luke was already past. Unlike the PT Jedi (whose weaknesses they had never reconciled or faced), Luke had faced this before and overcame it. Him even contemplating killing Ben seems ridiculous and regressive even after having seen the film. It seems like they were grasping for reasons and thought throwing Luke under the bus was entirely appropriate.

I can tell you right now. I don't think I've ever felt like that leaving a Star Wars film. I watched Empire on VHS the first time that's the closest I can compare it too.
