How to "save" the sequel trilogy

In my opinion, to truly satisfy the fan base, IX has to accomplish all of the following:

1. Redemption/conclusion for Ben
2. Rey triumphs and/or becomes a Jedi
3. Reasonable endings for Poe, Finn, Rose, and Hux
4. More background/info about Snoke
5. More background/info about Knights of Ren
6. Either include Lando or explain why they didn't
7. Stronger connection to the OT would be nice (make it feel less like a reboot)
8. Tasteful sendoff for Leia
9. Explain those darn tally marks (could involve more background info about Rey)
10. More info about Maz/how she got the lightsaber
11. At least some reference to broom boy
12. Some form of involvement for C3PO, R2D2, BB8, and Chewie
13. End of First Order
14. Be exciting and original (no Death Star 4 please!!! )

On the one hand, this seems like a very difficult list to accomplish - but on the other hand, people made similar comments after AOTC, and ROTS pretty much knocked it out of the park.

 

I don't think this sequel trilogy needs to be saved, per say; however, I do have a checklist as to what I would like to see in Episode IX:
1. Funeral/or Discussion about General Leia's passing.
2. Kylo (Ben Solo) expressing sorrow or verbal/visual acknowledgment of his Mother's passing.
3. Knights of Ren as formidable opponents to Rey.
4. Force Ghost Anakin and Force Ghost Luke (since this is the last Skywalker episode)
5. A mission or at least a scene with all three of our main protagonists (Poe, Rey, Finn) together.
6. Old school Aliens (Rodian, Ithorian, Twi'lek, WeQuays, Togrutas, Zabraks) joining up the new Rebel Alliance (they can be peppered in as background characters along with new Aliens)
7. "I've got a bad feeling about this" said by any character that is not BB8.
8. More R2D2
9. Epic lightsaber battles
10. An ending that will bring me to ugly crying (happy or sad)

I just want this episode to have a satisfying ending like Return of the Jedi did. But this is the completion of the whole Skywalker Saga, so I really want the ending to have meaning that is satisfying so that I can close the chapter on this saga and go into new Star Wars saga (Rian Johnsons or Benioff and Weiss Trilogy) with great excitement and no expectations.

2. FO becomes the The Last Order
3. Resistance re brands into the New Rebel Resistance.
4. No Death stars please
5. A return of Ewoks
6. Admiral Akbars wife leads the charge from Hoth as revenge.
7. Lando returns with a fleet of cloud cars from cloud city that have long range weapons.

 

Add Ahsoka to the ST and say that Sabine and Ezra are Rey's parents...

 

This! The chemistry between these two actors the moment they were together on screen in TFA, was fantastic.

 

Being one that doesn't feel it needs "saving", I do agree with some of what has been said. Definitely needs a fitting conclusion for the side characters. A conclusion to Kylo, redemption or not. Rey finding her place in all of this. Some mention of Han and Lea. Maybe they have a funeral for both. Lando shows up and drops a line to where he has been. Definitely, Definitely no large, spherical mass destruction devices.

 

I must be in the minority, because people always say "Not another death star!" and I'm like, "The more death stars, the better!", haha.

To actually answer to the topic of this thread, in my opinion, I say redeem Ben Solo is at the top of my list. I mean, unless they want me to leave a packed theater sobbing at the end of next year.

 

just end the Skywalker's unpopular I know but it's out of love. can't stand what Disney has done. Prolonging the problem into another chapter is like watching someone in pain.

 

I mean, this is literally what they're doing. And here you are saying you hate it....

Minority is a safe bet. We don't need a 5th movie about a Death Star or construction of the Death Star or ending with a Death Star.

 

Here's a run down of what I'm looking for.

Establish Kylo as the new dark force
Luke speaks again with Rey,
Rey's new saber
Explanation of Rey's TFA visions, (I personally would like Rey to have a connection to Luke)
Expand upon Luke's searching, Poe's relationship with Leia, Snoke / Kylo history, Kylo's motivation
Leia funeral
Rey, Poe and Finn adventure
Knights of Ren battle with Rey (& Luke's ghost)
a respectful death for chewy
a respectful death for the Falcon or it must be the last shot of the film
a fitting resolution (maybe redeem Kylo, but not necessary)

 

Not sure about what I want from IX... I'm trying to play down any theories and scenarios I may have in my mind so that I don't end up disillusioned and disappointed...

I do not have any checklists, but I would like to see a proper ending for Leia and some answers about Snoke and the KOR.

An idea has stuck in my mind lately that Hux may be behind all that, maybe he even is the real Snoke... That look he gave Kylo at the end of the movie when they enter the Crait base...

 

Ep 9 must be about Kylo and the Skywalker clan to finish that off right. He must fulfill his destiny even if that isn't really a part of this but to me that is a central theme in these films that should exist here. We just don't know quite yet what exactly that will be. By now we should have that idea but Rey's story has gone more in that direction with the parentage issue. She will go on to more films I am certain (at some point) so lets deal with Kylo first please!

 

Make snoke into the prime jedi

Make the story about the KOR and reys new jedi working together to stop him from taking control of the cosmic force.

I have no idea what this means so I suspect most of the general audience doesn't either and doesn't care. Snoke is dead so spending any more time on him seems like a waste of time.

 

The reason we want more info about Snoke is that he is currently kind of an “anti- Mary Sue” - some people feel that Rey is a good guy who just popped up out of nowhere, and Snoke is a bad guy who just popped up out of nowhere. I know not everyone likes exposition, but I just don’t feel like the ST in its current state lives up to the depth of the complex 1000+ year conflict between Jedi and Sith.

 

I have no objection to what some people want, but it's simply not necessary for a story about Rey and Ben Solo. This isn't a story about the Jedi and Sith. The Sith died with Vader and Palpatine and the Jedi is basically Rey. Rey didn't pop out of nowhere any more than Anakin/Luke popped out of nowhere.

 

except that neither rey nor ben solo are remotely compelling and are both just as boring as the creatively bankrupt setting of the ST which has no depth or nuance.

the trilogy has no rhyme or reason and its pathetic attempts at making us care for its setting(canto bight) cheapens it more than it already did.

 

This is a good question. For myself, it ends for me at Ep. 8, but to 'save the trilogy', that's all relative. To make a half-decent film by JJ is another story.

But if I could come up with some points for 9, here goes:

1. Rey and Finn need a proper progression in their arcs.
2. Kylo needs to be the epitome of evil. I don't care either way about redemption. Although I suspect redemption will occur as he is the remaining Skywalker. (argh)
3. A good and proper story that doesn't make the main focus on stylistic elements and "shocking" people.
4. World building or planets that have been mentioned, but not seen on screen.
5. An epic battle between worlds that does not involve waiting for an inferior ship to run out of gas.
6. Keep the droids in for humour and nostalgia.
7. DO NOT introduce more characters to the film.
8. A proper reason for Leia's passing/absence and send off.
9. Luke: I don't know what to do with him. The selfish fan of many years wants him to make an appearance so long as it's relevant to the story and can put a fitting end to the Skywalker saga. The other part of me doesn't want MH in at all because of the appalling treatment of his character.
10. Must have some epic lightsaber battles... hope Rey uses the cyber crystals from Luke's sabre. Unless of course RJ has done away totally with that.

 

I have enjoyed the ST so far and I loved TLJ so I am not sure it needs saving. There is no way to fix what people have not liked so far.

They might tell a story that going forward brings some people back who like EP9 more than TLJ but the choices were already made.

My best advice would be let your sacred cows go and take another look at the ST and you might find you actually enjoy it.
