So, I was just browsing this forum (more of lurker anyways), and came across the BB-8 origin speculation. Try to hear me out.

There, user lealt mentioned the connection between Luke & Poe Dameron. Namely, Shara Bey, Poe's mother, assisted Luke shortly after Endor to receive the remnants of a Force tree, one of which she got to keep. So we know Poe grew up around a Force tree.

We also know, from the book Before the Awakening, that Shara Bey died some 20 years before the Force Awakens, around the same time Rey was (presumably) born.

So what if Rey is Poe's sister, growing up around a Force tree? Perhaps she has a special attunement with the Force.

Then their mother dies, and the kids are being taken away. Poe with his dad, where he grows up to be the plot we know today. And Rey is taken in by someone who recognizes her Force potential (maybe Luke), until something happened that left her stranded in Jakku.

I leave it here to be picked apart (foremost "Rey Bey" is a worse name than Evan Sleazebaggano), because many things with this theory don't add up right now.

For instance, Daisy Ridley herself said it was clear in the film that we would know who her parents are/ were. However, lots of the film was left on the cutting room floor..

I just thought it would be a different view, besides the Skywalker/ Kenobi/ Solo conondrum.

I disagree Because didn't Bey die 4 years before Rey was born?

Well, I believe it was the Visual Dictionary that stated her date of birth? Those can be contradicted. I remember the one from Episode 1, where it was stated that Battle Droids were modelled after the skeletons of Neimodians. Have to look it up though..

Also, Poe learned later on of Shara's death. Again, those dates could be estimates.

However, I agree that this is a far off theory, especially for the average movie goer.

Now I do remember that in early drafts (or leaks of them), it was stated that Rey had (more) screentime with Poe. Almost at times looking up at him. As in looking up to a brother like figure? This was later changed into a fatherlike figure with Han Solo.

I just liked to put out a different, 'out there' theory.

I'm referring to his order. It didn't fail but was betrayed and destroyed by Kylo Ren. As for Rey, we don't know how she ended up on Jakku or how Luke dealt with it if she is his daughter. I'm sure we'll get a logical explanation and good story for how she ended up on Jakku and how Luke responded that fits what we've been given so far.

Shara Bey died 5 years after ROTJ. Rey was born 11 years after ROTJ. She can't be Rey's mother and Pablo Hildago has specifically stated she wasn't Rey's mother on his twitter which has been posted here I believe.:)

I don't think it was Luke who left her there. The moment where a man's voice tells her he will come back for her takes place in a forest during a snow storm and not a desert so clearly isn't referring to her being left on Jakku but a different place and time. We actually know nothing about the circumstances of her abandonment on Jakku.

I say no for the simple fact that when Fin tells Ray about the map to Luke she says "Luke Skywalker, I thought he was a myth" witch makes me think that she only new about Luke from story's and rumours, and she was about 7 or 8 ( just a guess) when she was left on Jakku so if Luke was her father she would remember him but that is my thoughts on it.

The Jedi are not forbidden to love. They should love everyone. They are forbidden from having possessions. Big difference.

Don't like it then leave the order. Only 20 ever did out of thousands over many generations.

    Go figure.

"We're encouraged to love" - Anakin

Then he should've told the truth, left the order and had a family.

He wasn't told that. Ever. Even Qui Gon told Anakin being a Jedi was a hard life. One of sacrifice. He didn't have to take that path. He could've just been honest. But he lied about Padme because he wanted her. That's fine, but leave the order. Don't lie and then do evil stuff to keep her!

Yeah, but they are essentially forbidden to feel romantic love.

Because that's so easy when you have dedicated your entire life to training as a Jedi and already feel like a failure?

He wasn't exactly told that, but he was told that attachments lead to fear of loss and that fear is the path to the dark side. It's the same.

Look. Anakin was stuck in a vicious cycle. He wanted to become this great Jedi, but at the same time, he felt enormous guilt and pain. He couldn't talk to any of his friends about the vision he had, because he was afraid of getting kicked out of the order.
Palpatine was the only person he could tell the truth and he presented him with a solution to his problems, unlike the Jedi.

Had the Jedi Code not forbidden attachments, Anakin wouldn't have gone to the dark side and the galaxy wouldn't have had to suffer through 23 years of terror.

Or they can just leave. As Kenobi once almost did but opted against it.

Life is full of hard choices. That's the problem these days, everyone has a feeling if entitlement. I'm sorry but you can't have it all. Qui Gon (who was the most enlightened of Jedi) told Anakin it would be a hard life. Anakin had to choose. Padme or the Jedi order. He decided to keep both and it was his undoing.

Which they do. He was told the truth.

He could've told the other Jedi. He could've spoken to his mentor. But he chose not to because of his possessiveness.

Really? Had the code not forbidden attachment then how many other Jedi would've fallen to the Dark Side? And you think Palpatine would've done nothing? Anakin's mother would've been threatened. Padme would've still likely died. Things would've happened that threatened Anakin's attachments. He was either willing to let go of them or he wasn't. If the Jedi allowed them he still would've fallen. That is the whole point. That is what Lucas was putting across.

The only thing the Jedi might've done differently in hindsight is to have allowed a slower transition in Anakin letting go of his attachment to his mother. But that would've been hard as Anakin had to train to be a Jedi and his mother was in slavery in the outer rim. Now the Jedi could've paid for her freedom (maybe) and she could've been allowed to see Anakin and Anakin trained himself slowly to let go. But a) that might not even have worked b) The situation would've been manipulated by Palpatine and c) Hindsight is a wonderful thing! The Jedi couldn't possibly foresee these events. And they couldn't know Anakin would make the choices that he did. And could they treat him differently than the other Jedi who have been successful over a thousand or so years?

It's more complicated than that. Anakin was not strong enough to leave, he wanted to learn more to become more powerful. He wanted to safe others from feeling what he had to feel.

The Jedi Code amplified his fear.
in his mind, had he been caught, he would've lost the ability to help the galaxy.

Again, it's not as easy as you say it is. He was thrown into the Jedi order and told that he would bring balance to the force. You don't just abandon that. Had he spoken to Yoda or Obi-Wan about it, he would've been kicked out of the order. As I said, he was stuck in a vicious cycle.

He wouldn't necessarily have had an easier life, but at least he wouldn't have been alone. He would not have fallen, because he would have had real friends that he didn't need to keep a dark secret from.

You make it sound like the Jedi are a sect. To leave Shmi behind was a big mistake. The Jedi have to safe suffering people when they have the chance.

Yes - he wanted to stop change. He wanted to try and prevent the inevitable. He wanted to go against nature. That is how the Dark Side works. If you cannot accept change you do bad things to stop it. Anakin needed to accept there were certain things he couldn't do. He couldn't accept that as he was attached and because Palpatine manipulated him.

You're not looking at the bigger picture. Even if the Jedi allowed marriage he still would've been attached. He was unwilling to let go. That was his problem. A Jedi is SELFLESS. If he were concerned about the fate of the galaxy, like the rest of the Jedi, he would've sacrificed his own desires and done what was right. Look at it this way, do you think Padme would've preferred him to be a Jedi and save the galaxy or risk all that for her? It was like with Satine - she knew Obi Wan needed to be a Jedi for the good of the galaxy so she didn't pursue a relationship with him.

I don't deny it was hard for him. Harder than most. And as I say, there might have been more thought given to his situation with his mother. But all that that is irrelevant. Where Anakin failed was with his possessiveness. A Jedi must do what is right by the Force, not themselves. Look at Luke in TESB. He fears for his friends and rushes off to save them. Did it help then? No. He put them in more danger and almost got himself killed or worse. The lesson is replayed over and over again. Look at ROTS: Anakin fears losing Padme so he goes and kills all the Jedi and turns bad. This act broke Padme's heart and killed her. The best way a Jedi can act is selflessly and with compassion. And if a Jedi does this, even if they can't see what good could come of it, it will work out right - trust in the Force! This was the final message in ROTJ. Luke had a chance to save his friends. He had a chance to spare his own life. But he let go of everything and sacrificed himself. This act of selflessness and compassion resulted in the redemption of his father, the destruction of Sidious and peace in the galaxy!

Kenobi: What do you think Padme would do if she were in your position?!
Anakin: She would do her duty.

Always in motion is the future.
Kenobi was like his brother. He utterly betrayed him. He then turned on his wife (which no other Jedi had) and choked her.
The only thing that could've helped Anakin was to have let go of his attachment. Not love or compassion. Attachment. That would mean letting Padme get on with her life and being happy for her. It would mean being fulfilled by being a Jedi and serving the Force. But he couldn't do this. Regardless of the Jedi rules.

Quite the opposite. I have shown why I believe the jedi to be selfless and good people. Everyone else seems to be making them out to be monsters who deserved to be destroyed and were responsible for everything! It's like those who blame terrorism on US foreign policy. I'm sorry, but there are groups out there who want to control things their way, regardless of what we do. The Jedi Order was a beacon of light and hope. Their rules were a great sacrifice to the individual Jedi but a gift to the galaxy. That was the price. But with it also came great reward.

But I will say it again, perhaps something different could've happened with Shmi but I see no reason why that would've dramatically changed things. Anakin would've still had to let go of his attachment. It's just whether that would've been less painful if he wasn't suddenly taken from his mother. But then the risks may have been even greater then as well. Not to mention a dangerous move for the Jedi Order in general.

If I recall, there was someone on this thread suggesting that Kennedy's use of "the saga films being the Skywalker story" was only in reference to I - VI.

    Just to clear that up:

I can't see how anyone can love without attachment myself. The word in relation to people and institutions has meant “sympathy, devotion” since the early eighteenth century and today means “affection”.

At least Mr Lucas not following Orwell's advice to “let the meaning choose the word and not the other way around” has ensured endless lively discussion on SW forums!

@master_shaitan. People arent possessions. If you are possessive of the people you care about, that isn't ok for anyone, thats abuse.

No, acceptance is acceptance. Love is caring for someone more than you care about yourself. If you dont, you dont truly love them.

Honestly this whole "love without attachment" thing is a bit condescending.

"I care enough to save your life if I have to, but not enough to involve myself in your life in any meaningful way."

Kind of like the popular kid in school telling the nerd. "Yeah, I like you and all, but we arent friends"
