lmao.. i was just about to post to ask when 'FANGIRLMODE' was put into the forum. it's been a long day :D

i'm kinda hoping for a reversal of what happened in TFA... so in a moment of desperation, Ben is able to pull the blue saber from Rey to fight the bad guys.
It would mark a turning point in the force for him, in that he wasn't able to grab it while he was corrupt with the darkside.

my imagination is lacking, so i'm not sure how the scene would work out... but with some John Williams magic it could be an awesome thing.

Luke is battling Ben AND Rey, but for different reason...
Being the badass he is, he is able to beat both.
Luke tells Ben of his mother's passing.
Snoke and Del Toro's character use the pause to kill Luke.

Seeing his last family member die because of the path he chose causes Ben to see his wrong doing.
In his good old Kylo rage he grabs Luke's green saber and proceeds to tear Snoke and Del Toro a new one.
Rey grabs the blue saber and scurries away.

He now goes by Ben Solo-Organa-Skywalker and people don't complain about a Skywalker lead
    Or something.

Rey left on Jakku where Lor San Tekka is, the guy who is an old friend of Luke/Leia/Han and has know Ben Solo when he was young and has a galactic map of the first Jedi Temple where Luke is and is member of the Church of The Force, yeah just coincidences...

I don't think a protagonist has to be a Skywalker, especially with Luke still providing a pivotal role. This is as long as we're basing it off the surname exclusively; both Ben Solo and Leia Organa fit the lineage of Anakin Skywalker. And for me, personally, I want Ben Solo to die violently. This is whether or not Rey is actually a Skywalker.

I don't think she needs to be a Skywalker out of fulfilling a role as a protagonist. I may want her more as a Skywalker just for the logistical sense of her prowess and secluded backstory.

Actually, if BB8 was on Dantooine, LST on Yavin and Rey on Takodana, the movie would have been shorter.

Colin Trevorrow, director and writer of Star Wars: Episode IX: [I'm thinking about Episode IX] in the context of three films, six films, nine films, and one film. It's a lot." (March 30, 2017)

Colin Trevorrow: “I’ve seen all of the theories. I have to practice how to answer these questions.” “We’re going to make sure that that answer [of Rey’s lineage] is deeply and profoundly satisfying.” “Rey is a character that is important in this universe, not just in the context of The Force Awakens, but in the entire galaxy.” “She deserves it. We’ll make sure that that answer is something that feels like it was something that happened a long time ago, far away, and we’re just telling you what happened.” “I love Rey. But I love her. And I love what she represents in that universe and where we can take her. It’s pretty incredible.” “What’s interesting is I’m not creating a host of new characters. I have a lot of characters that people really love that we’re going to make sure are all honored. No one’s going to be left behind.” “[I want want the presence of Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher to be even greater in my film. I can’t wait] to find new places that we can take those characters.” “They are icons, but they’re also people that have suffered tremendous loss and challenge over the course of all these films.” “By the time we get to Episode IX, I look at that movie as one movie, as three movies, as six movies, and as nine movies. It’s something that needs to honor a story that has been told over a period of 40 years.” “I don’t want to ignore any of it, and I respect all of it. It’s something I think the fan base is going to embrace.” (January 12, 2016)

i suppose this is relevant in that Rey's lineage will be, "deeply and profoundly satisfying," but what does the rest have to do with this thread?

i guess one could read into the bit, "... i'm not creating a host of new characters," but even then he could just be saying that Rey and Finn et al. are already pretty well established via TFA and TLJ.

I'd rather have a satisfying whole story. If the story is good, noone will give a damn about her parents.

Let's put the story on something bigger.

If I was in charge, I would have ask my writers something with higher ambitions than having a I'm your father in ep VIII.

    Really ...

I'm gonna feel conned if they go there.

Ending the Skywalker family is not only not "deeply & profoundly satisfying" from a marketing perspective it's asinine.

There's a reason EVERY Trek movie had the Enterprise is it. (Even TVH at the end) Because it sells.

CT claimed he "seen all the theroies". Well Rey Skywalker & Rey Solo r the most popular.

Ben/Ren WILL die. Carrie is with the Force. That just leaves us Rey Unknown & (maybe) a FG Luke for Ep. 10?

What a horrible time to be a Skywalker fan.

    That's a nonsense argument.
The Enterprise is an object, a design, that provides aesthetic pleasure to people.
The Skywalker family is just a name.

    Look at it this way:
If Rey isn't a Skywalker but everyone loves her and all the new non-Skywalker characters - will the end of the Skywalker family be a problem?
Of course not. Sure, the story of Vader has been central but beyond his legacy impacting his grandchild, Kylo, there isn't much more that can be squeezed out of the Skywalker family without it becoming old hat. Far wiser to introduce new characters now, off the back of the legends, that people can love and be excited by so the Star Wars story as a whole can continue.

Odd that the troll that marked this quote old news didn't mark @MagnarTheGreat's post old news.
The ignore button is your friend.

The next film centers on Luke. You can't do what they did in the last film and then shortchange Luke in TLJ. Lucasfilm has kept us in the dark about Luke's history and fans have been waiting decades to know what happened to our hero.

I have the strange feeling that people wants Luke to play Ted's role in How I met your mother on Acht-To ...

Is this what Star Wars is about ?

Where do we go from here ? Bla, blah, blah I'm your father ... ( how original is this ?! ) and then what ?

Do we go full OMG they're cousins, how cool is that ? I have cousins I have never met, you're not family by blood, you're family by time, joy, sadness shared.

If one guy knocks now on my door saying Hey buddy, I'm your real father, I'm quite sure we won't hug and cry ...

Family are the ones who raise and love you. In Rey's world, there was nobody to help her.

I have maintained that i think Rey is Luke's daughter since i walked out of the first showing of TFA, but the only thing that interests me is a great story.

What is certain is that they made a 'thing' about her family and who she is. We were meant to question who Rey is, and none of TPTB have done anything to quell that.

The only other options that sway my gut instinct:-
    ~ Kenobi ~

There was always going to be a film about Kenobi... whether that's an actual fact, or just a fact to me... it's a fact - i'm calling it.
Why hold that golden nugget of a possibility back? Rogue 1 and the Solo film are big risks as anthology films compared to a Kenobi movie.

In the back of my head, i'm wondering if they have held back announcement and production on it as it will have a huge impact on the plot/cast of the ST?

If Rey could possibly be a Kenobi... i'm guessing they gotta cover that in the film? (the film we assume they will be announcing in 2 weeks time).

    ~ The Revan factor ~

little bits and pieces of KOTOR (Knights of the old republic game for anyone who doesn't know... you really should try it out, it's freggin awsome) have snuck their way into this trilogy. to mention a few...

    Rey having weird visions
Rey suddenly connecting with the force
having a strange force 'connection' with another force user
Kylo's look is scarily similar to Revan's
Rey looks scarily similar to bastila shan
we hear rumors about an ancient navigational computer on Jakku... *cough* dantooine ancient navigational computer terminal from kotor.

that's just the first 6 i could think of.

it's not just me is it? there are definitely a lot of kotor similarities in there yes?

What is it to get ?

    Yes, it's just a name.

It puts a so bad overall message that you have to be born in a specific family to be someone ...

You know what I think it is happening but I would be surprised that some people here would be able to imagine better things than professionnal writers.

And yes, I played KOTOR but it was like 20 years ago :D

My point is a new character with a story as interesting as the Skywalker thing will be enough to keep the saga as a whole going. If Rey isn't a Skywalker people are still going to love her and the story if it's done well.

except for the fact that every single one of the main saga movies are about the skywalkers and the future movies will be mainly about the skywalkers.

    This.

If she is a Skywalker or Solowalker... I will love the character more than I already do. She has to be, She needs to be, and I'm sure she will be.

If for some bizarre, and unpresidented change of plan, she is not. I will love her still.. but a little less than I wish to. That's just the brutal truth. Luke, Leia, Anakin. My favoured people in SW. Rey is a continuation.

That's why this thread has become weird. People are confusing evidences and their own little wishes.

Like if giving bad reps to other people would make your wish true.
