Anybody notice the music box-esque sound mixed in with the force theme and opening in the TLJ teaser? :) Like a lullaby. The teaser opens in a very dreamy kind of mood.

When Leia is on screen (4 second audio clip) - I've listened with headphones and it could be Leia saying "I love you" from The Empire Strikes Back or what other people have suggested (seems more of a stretch after listening with headphones) "Help me, Obi-Wan". Rey's theme is definitely teased to introduce Leia - and not Leia's own theme. For Kylo Ren's helmet, you hear Vader's breathing and then Kylo Ren's theme.

If she's not Skywalker, then why beat around the bush? The speculation could have been killed right at the start. Instead of stringing the fans along. It's a cheap tactic.

It's worth noting that Rey awakens the cosmic force in TFA and that it is this element to the Force that was dormant (the living force is continuous and "always there"). The cosmic force is the side that is difficult to qualify. It's about destiny and is the mystic element to the Force.

My feeling is that the only thing that could be "bigger" than the balance between light and dark would be the idea of someone controlling the cosmic force itself...Plagueis!

Actually, the music went dissonant very quickly like if the start of the movie is all but what people expect.

Well, let's say your right. Plagueis tried. Plagueis or Snoke, Plagueis being = Snoke, or whomever the Dark Force from the U.R.is, he's trying from a while.
The implications on the cosmic force would be huge.
What are the consequeces on the destinies?
If one can manipulate the cosmic force, everything can be manipuleted.... time and space too I fear.
The other question is, is the cosmic force uncapable of a reaction? If it is, what this reaction may be?

Don't have answers, I'm just try to figure it.

I haven't a clue. I don't even known what I'm getting at! All I know is Snoke is like Plagueis in every way and Sidious's former master once wanted to have superiority over the forcenirself (in the DP novel). I'm just trying to get a handle on what could be bigger than the balance between light and dark...

Without getting too far off topic I think this probably where the biggest source of lore will come from in this trilogy. Snoke I assume has a completely new way at looking at the dark side of the force. This probably due to him being a new character and the possibility he's from the unknown regions. Snoke sees Vader's failure was his sentiment towards his son. Vader failed as a Sith lord for the same reason he failed as a Jedi. His attachments to his family. Kylo Ren is attempting to severe that connection by killing his own father.

@DailyPlunge so, in the end.... All we need is love!

    The Beatles = the Whills
or Jhon Lennon = the Chosen One

    I guess I can like it :)

Seriusly speaking.... yours it's (another) clever addition.
And I don't think we're really getting out of topic.

If we think about it, to understand who Rey is (and so who her parents are) probably we have to change prospective.
First we have to figure where the ST heads on a general level.
Rey's origins must be those that serve better the story they're telling.

But it was supposed to be balanced after Anakin's death.

So if the balance wasn't restored when he died, he wasn't indeed the chosen one.

    Oops.

But the question's still there considering the teaser.

So the millenary prophecy lasted like 2 years ?

    That's a bit of a reach.

If she's not a Skywalker, there better be some reason they made a mystery of her parents. This is a Star Wars movie, so they obviously knew everyone was going to wonder about Rey's parents. If the answer turns out to be uninteresting, they will have essentially gone out of their way to let down the audience.

More like 25 years, but yeah, essentially. The prophecy itself is simply a prediction about one moment in time. It came true. But it has no bearing on how Anakin was created or indeed how he would bring balance. It turned out that he did bring balance but along the way he created a whole heap of trouble of which the consequences are still being felt.

In creating an ST there were two option: change Lucas' canon of Anakin bringing balance thus diminishing the PT entirely. Or simply say that "in Luke's absence" the FO rose to power and causes another imbalance...

The one thing that gives me pause for thought is having no surname. Is that because it would be recognisable or to make sure that Rey herself didn't know she was a Skywalker? Possibly. But at the same time she could've been given a fake surname - but then would they have got us to question her origins so much?

It could be that she is a Kenobi or Palpatine. But I doubt that. I personally think it was done because, like Finn, her family is gone and what is important is he family she makes. Han and Chewie are after all as much family to Luke as anyone else is. It could however also be because her surname may giveaway who she is to other characters if here is a connection between her parents and Luke or Kylo. For instance, if either of them did once kill her parents then they'd know who she is straight away. It might be more fitting for them to find out during TLJ and wondering how to break it to her!

Again, what is important is to not look at Rey Random as utterly random. She will be connected in some way, be it by blood, her origins or the fate of her parents...

    Woah, it's a 40/20/40 split between a Yes/Undecided/No; that's pretty neat!

About the Cosmic Force becoming dormant 30 years before TFA (so, at the end of ROTJ): I think this absolutely has something to do with Anakin bringing balance to the Force.

Sure, Snoke was out there and so was Luke, along with their respective followed, but this was a period with no direct conflict between Force users and an era post-Chosen One. What happened with Luke's academy might be deemed a conflict, but I'm going to call it as I see it: it was a one-sided massacre judging from what we see in TFA, and, if the TLJ teaser carries any weight, it's likely Luke wasn't present during this time.

I think that bringing balance to the Force by destroying the Sith at the end of ROTJ not only brought balance to the Force, which many have questioned, but also returned it to its "resting" state of dormancy, much like when the outer shell of an atom in basic chemistry becomes "full", the atom is virtually unreactive. And, to follow this analogy further, this means that either something inside or outside of the atom itself fundamentally changed (to awaken the cosmic Force) for it to once again become reactive to the state of the galaxy and it's inhabitants.

It's possible, perhaps even likely, that Luke and his academy were maintaining that Balance, as Lor San Tekka alluded to at the start of TFA, and Luke was able to do so until the first (currently known) direct conflicting interaction since the events that unraveled on the second Death Star some thirty years before, when Kylo is using the Force to prove Rey on Starkiller Base.

If there is no reason in the plot to talk about this now because this isn't just the time in the story yet to talk about that. There is nothing in Finn's story about his parents too and nobody had been theorizing on this subject except enumerating every black character in the saga.
    --- Double Post Merged, Apr 20, 2017, Original Post Date: Apr 20, 2017 ---

25 years is a ridiculous amount of time for a timeless prophecy. The balance is the balance, it just don't came out for no reason in 25 short years.

At least, Earth's golden age is supposed to last 1000 years.

That could be the point of Luke's disappointment. All this for 25 years.

Who's trying the Force to fool ?

And if Rey is supposed to bring it again 25 years only after the death of the chosen one, how long would it last ? 1 year ?
