Is she called Rey Bal-ans, and by name she effectively brings balance to the Force? :p

Oh I do think Anakin is the chosen one, don't get wrong.

Well, I'll answer canonly to this.

This is why Rey has no name, no face and doesn't have a clue of who she is and what she waits for. 1min 24 in the vid.

Rey is the good in him. Starting from scratch.

To throw my hat into this ring, my prevailing inclination is that Rey is a Kenobi, as it forms a lot of very intriguing thematic parallels throughout all three trilogies, and has an important effect on characters like Luke to the overall story going forward.

Not to discount them, but in my opinion Luke being her father would be too obvious, and would end up not bringing the intended emotional punch and stakes that it intended. Her being a Solo to me would seem peculiar to reveal after the fact in Ep. VIII, especially with Han and Leia's parts in the franchise likely coming to a close.

That being said, I'd be open to all of those possibilities, so long as it makes sense and adds to the story in a positive, compelling way. I'm also becoming more open to Rey being a nobody in the context of the history of the saga, and her backstory having more importance in the overall story than simple familial blood.

Just an aside, I think that the TLJ teaser really pushed our thinking and speculation away from Rey's parentage towards what Luke meant by it's time for the Jedi to end. I think it was done deliberately. That said, I think it's not so much her parents that are important, but her heritage, her family line and how they relate to the Force and ancient Jedi. Not to burst anyone's bubble as I'd be happy if she's a Skywalker, Daisy did say in a recent interview that when Rey arrives on Ach-to and holds out Luke's old saber, (and I'm paraphrasing), "he doesn't know who she is". (maybe at first) Maybe he discovers it as he gets to know her. Who knows. I'd be content also if she is a Random user with an important history though.

Palpatines grandaughter used the dark side to seduce Luke into sex making Rey. Luke is unaware. Being place on Jakku was no acceptable dent.

Rey is the foray air to alderman and Naboo.

Daisy Ridley: "Obviously, he doesn't even know who she is when she shows up w/ this frickin' lightsaber..."

If Luke really has no idea who Rey is when he sees her, surely that rules her out being his daughter?
I mean, not only does that mean he doesn't sense who she is (ruling out that he ever met her when she was born) but it suggests that he doesn't see the resemblance with his alleged wife or girlfriend. I think if you see someone and they look a little bit like your wife, they have your saber, have been sent by your sister and you have a special ability to perceive things through the Force, then would you have "no idea" who your own daughter is when you're looking right at her?

I think that the script - and the contents of the final scene in TFA on-screen - points to Luke recognising who Rey is in this moment. Now, whether that means he recognises that now he has to come out to the galaxy, or that his daughter is standing in front of him, or that his isolated island has been found out and he now needs to move, etc., is completely up for debate.

"A kindness in his eyes, but there's something tortured, too", though, signifies to me some form of personal recognition, and it's worth noting that this is his look before she offers him his old lightsaber.

That script quote clearly means that he knows this person has come to ask for his help, that she has been sent by Leia to get him to return. He knows she is perhaps even a Jedi hopeful. He might even know she is "the awakening". But he doesn't know who she is. The recent comments by Daisy back up this reading entirely.

"Clearly", yet it's clearly left open to interpretation by the reader: one could argue that the kind but tortured eyes of Luke hints that he is indeed her father, whereas others, such as yourself, might see it as him acknowledging that she is a potential Jedi hopeful. But in no way does this statement clearly out one argument and give more credence to another.

Look, I love all of the actresses and actors involved in SW too, but I think you're trusting actors and actresses far too much in regards to any comments that they make about a character that they portray. Do you seriously think Daisy is going to so blatantly hint that Rey isn't a Skywalker without receiving backlash from RJ, KK, LFL and higher-ups over at Disney?

The script isn't there for the general public. It's there to direct the actors. Luke looks haunted because, as we know, his Jedi were killed and his nephew turned bad.
The script isn't clear - but it offers two interpretations (along with other info before SWCC) - one of which Daisy has confirmed...

No, I don't think she will blatantly say it. And I haven't said she did. What I have said is that she has confirmed, as originally argued, that Luke doesn't know who she is - and why that inadvertently would suggest that he isn't her father.

The fact is that the idea that Luke doesn't know who Rey is has been around for a while. Your interpretation of the script was valid up to a point. But we now have Daisy confirming what has been said about Luke not knowing her. I think that makes the argument I'm putting forward far more likely. He doesn't know who she is. And not having an idea of who she is, is very telling.

So 1) They don't tell everybody in the cast every secret in advance - including the major players. 2) What the cast knows they can only speak what they are authorized to speak about due to the non-disclosure agreement.

I think we can also expect a slightly looser continuity between VIII and the rest of the canon and VII than people are expecting. Kylo Ren's moving scar is a sign of things to come. Even when they showed the reshot scene of Rey handing Luke the Lightsaber as the production announcement back early last year - the scene played differently in the announcement than it did at the end of TFA (partly because Ridley wasn't sick at the time it was shot).

Daisy Ridley saying that "Luke doesn't know who she is" isn't, to her at least, a big reveal. And it's pretty black and white. If Luke does know who Rey is, then she'd have just lied which I don't think she'd do. Clearly, she is just speaking freely based upon what happens in the scene that she filmed a year ago. Luke doesn't recognise her.

But to us, who have analysed this stuff, it is a big clue. What is a little bit of info to Daisy, goes a long way here.
If Luke has no idea who Rey is, then it is a big hint that she is not his daughter.
It means that he sees none of his wife or himself in her. It means he doesn't sense her (which tells us at the very least he has never met her before). And it means that neither would know they were related to one another, nor suspect it - and so who in the hell would?!

The film is titled The Last Jedi. From a marketing standpoint it makes sense that the first teaser would address the title. Just like the first teaser of The Force Awakens addressed the title.

They're going to depart from canon based on something as innocuous as the exact location of a scar? I don't think so.

In short: If Luke was meant to recognize Rey in TFA it's either been retconned out so that he doesn't OR he does recognize her and the cast isn't meant to disclose that. Either way.

Or it has always been the same and he just doesn't know who she is...as I have been saying since Dec 2015 and Daisy Ridley has just confirmed.

I know millennials don't feel they're actually adults until they turn 30 but this whole idea of adult adoption is just silly.

We're not talking literal adoption. The point is that they will become family.
And if Rey has never met or known Luke but he is her father - what is the difference between her accepting that now and seeing him as her father than him not being her father by blood but looking upon him as a father - as she did with Han?

Isn't that a bit redundant thought? They already did the surrogate father thing with Rey in TFA. As was blatantly pointed out with Han being "the father she never had." Oh, forget that guy, there's a new one coming?

Luke doesn't seem like surrogate father material. He seems too lost/saddened, and he had a bad experience being an uncle. He should just be Rey's friend and mentor.
