Jakku = Tatooine

FACT: The only part of the game that has anything to do with TFA is the Battle of Jakku. Why would they have a Tattoine battle and a Jakku battle if it were actually Tattoine?

On a side note:(jakku): It is a Korean word which means to continuously do something or keep from doing something (literal translation is “keep”)

 

One possible scenario is since the battle took place one year after ROTJ then the Empire took control of it and renamed it. Or whomever were left behind renamed it. Who knows?

 

If Jakku were Tatooine I can't imagine Jawas leaving Xwing/Destroyer parts alone for 30 years. Rey wouldn't have much of a livelihood either.

"If there's a bright center to the universe you're on the planet it's farthest from." It just seems unlikely that a year or so after Endor, Tatooine would be fought over by the Rebels and the Empire. There's nothing there. And maybe all of the same will apply to Jakku, or maybe we'll get some backstory as to why the planet became a ship graveyard.

 

I bet you there will be lots of similar Star Destroyer crashes in the game on many different planets. Are they all Tattoine because of that? It was a gameplay trailer.

 

Personally, I think, and hope that Jakku is a new world. Tatooine is, IMHO, getting rather old, and the galaxy is more than big enough for another desert world. That said, I would have prefered it if Jakku was slightliy more different. They could have gone with a dark or white desert, or even a red world if only they could be bothered to tweak the color (as in the popular conception of what Mars looks like).

 

Maybe they fought over Jabba's business.. LOL

 

I really think you're confusing gameplay with story/cannon. I'm willing to bet that Battlefront will have crashing Star Destroyers as a possibility on most maps. The trailer also had Vader on the ground at Endor. It's just gameplay man.

Disney won't go for the "Khan" treatment on this one and Abrams and Kathleen Kennedy want to make a post Lucas splash. You don't do that by starting with Tattooine again.

 

I heard it from official Star Wars video (somebody please post link if you know which one) where they said something like

"And we can also see that Star Destroyer crashing on Tatooine"

True. It will be a DLC map after Battlefront comes out.

I Think a legitimate reason to have Jakku be an original planet is because Tatooine may feature in the trilogy at some point as a completely different place, like if Han or Luke ever returned there, it would have more impact if that wasn't also the place the Rey was from...so they might be saving tatooine for the next movie, so that they have some more old school nostaliga to level at us. but I have to admit it does seem odd to have them look so similar, with sand crawlers and all....I think they could at least have made the sand grey or white so that we visually get a new experience, why replicate the visuals? its just boring an without the planet actually being tatooine they compromise the nostalgia element...

 

If they are going to have The Battle of Jakku featured in the Battlefront game, AND Jakku is another name for Tatooine (which is supposedly also featured), then the secret is going to be spoiled for the film a month before TFA comes out (i.e. the game is scheduled for release in November). So, either they are going to display this supposed Tatooine battle with absolutely no references to Tatooine in the game (i.e. no Jawas, Sand People, twin suns, familiar locations, or anything that would make it feel like Tatooine, which renders the excercise rather pointless), OR they are going to let the film secret be spoiled by a computer game in November.

Nope, my money is on Jakku being an original world.
