Like someone mentioned re: Lost - keep an eye on: http://planetjakku.com/ The "reveal" will unfold between now and December.

Jakku = home to a relocated Jabba's palace. That's all that matters right... On a side note, it looks like a messy messy party. Epic.

It's a really good theory and one I've pondered since the trailer came out. It poses the question though that if it is Tatooine what is JJ hiding?

One thing I think he could be hiding is that Tatooine is the home of Luke's Jedi Academy. I've wondered if that's what we are seeing in the trailer when Luke puts his hand on R2. I've always thought this was the flashback scene and we are seeing the aftermath of the attack described in the MSW article. This might explain why Rey is on Jakku/Tatooine. She escapes the attack on the Academy, and thinking Luke is dead, hides away on the planet and ends up growing up alone as a scavenger.

I think the key to understanding the new trilogy is working out the past of Rey and Kylo Ren and Tatooine may play a large part in this.

So, I'm not a light saber expert, but who belongs to these, and more importantly, how does this relate to the Battle of Jakku ?

I saw this earlier when I quoted the press release. Really interesting. I'm not sure what to make of it.

I'm not an expert either. But maybe Vader and Obi-Wan? That would not relate to Jakku at all.

So Luke Skywalker (Green) and Darth Vader (Red)? Hmmm. Thoughts anyone?

I think Jakku is a new planet. I was one who initially thought the planet was Tatooine. I don't think there is any benefit for JJ and company to be deceitful here especially since most originally thought it was Tatooine to start with. Considering that The Battle of Jakku occurred shortly after The Battle of Endor, I suspect we will find out for sure if Jakku is Jakku or if Jakku is Tatooine when the novel Aftermath is released. I suspect this battle will be heavily featured in this novel big the planet is Jakku in the book then it will be Jakku in the movie. It serves Disney no purpose to perpetuate a lie in the Novel just to keep a movie secret.

That's what I thought. Although as far as we know both of those should have gone up with the second Death Star. Luke throws his away. "I will not fight you" and Darth's gets cut off with his hand. Again.

Luke brought his green one back - it's on his belt in the last scenes of Jedi... So he could have it with him in TFA - question is, how would Vader's apply to TFA or the Battle of Jakku?

If there isn't a light saber battle during the famed Battle of Jakku. Then this is a really sloppy graphic. I expect (and hope) it's a clever one.

I think JJ or K Kennedy already stated Jakku is a NEW planet, .
It's also common knowledge a SSD/super star destroyer wrecked on the 4th moon of Endor and more recently, Star Wars/Disney/PR flacks said a Imperial Cruiser wrecks on Tatooine.
It's not a huge stretch to think the First Order or some Imperial faction went by Tatooine in the years following the Battle of Endor(ROTJ). They may have been seeking Luke Skywalker or got into some battles with outer rim resistance forces.
I think Jakku is just Jakku. Not a code or a symbol.

It will be interesting to see if every Star Destroyer that crashes on a remote desert planet whether Jakku or Tatooine or a third planet that looks identical to those two does so in the exact same way and at the same camera angle as these two...

Not to whiz in anyone's wheaties either but WHEN did the "one of Tatootine's suns blows up" stuff start?

That could be a cool IMAX scene but highly unlikely. I think TFA's big IMAX moment will be the action packed chase scene INSIDE the wrecked Super Star Destroyer. On yes; JAKKU.

Rey zooming by the ruined Imperial ship on her bumper car(the formal name  ???) might be in IMAX but that would be lame.

But how can you compare those two scenarios when lying about Tatooine brings absolutely no benefits?
Khan was clearly a popular Star Trek antagonist who happened to appear in, arguably, the most fondly-regarded Star Trek movie. Cumberbatch was cast and portrayed as a generic villain in the marketing, but eventually people either guessed or it leaked that he was going to be Khan, forcing Abrams to flat out lie. Because he would have felt bringing back such a popular character would be his trump card. His big secret. And all he had left to defend it was lies, once people had guessed.

In the case of TFA there is absolutley no value in creating a desert planet that looks just like Tatooine, has made a fair chunk of the SW fandom groan "not Tatooine, again - does everything in SW have to happen there...?", announcing it is actually called Jakku. And then later revealing it is Tatooine after all.
    It's a totally different scenario.
That would be like casting Cumberbatch for Into Darkness, parading him around in Khan's costume from Star Trek II, complete with grey mullet wig and fake Mexican complexion - and THEN denying he is playing Khan.
I don't see how Tatooine being in a Star Wars movie could possibly be Abrams' "trump card" here. Something worth hiding. Because it just couldn't possibly be.

I don't' understand why people get so bent out of shape by it though. What's the big deal if a director lies to protect a plot development of a character reveal? Movies by their nature are lies. We're watching a fabrication of reality. Its a broad manipulation of the audience. Extending that outside of theater is no different. Its a game. I personally love it. When JJ blatantly lied about Kahn I thought it was hilarious.

I don't necessarily believe Jakku is Tatooine. But I like the idea of realizing the devastating impact the civil war had on the galaxy by reworking the map. It really shows the stakes of the OT and how impactful they were to the worlds in the Star Wars universe. So, in a way, although I doubt this is true...I sort of hope it is real. Because to me, that's a more clever idea than just having another random planet that is similar to Tatooine. Although, another desert planet is clearly logically possible, it just seems unnecessarily redundant (I'm hopeful there will be legitimate story reasons that make it necessary however). If the creators want to hide that reveal from us as part of their efforts to conceal the broader story of the ST, I don't begrudge them that. Its a game of cat and mouse and they are playing it well. if we figure out the truth, good for us. If they successfully lie their way to release day, good for them. Its all part of the fun to me. In the end its entertainment, and the cat and mouse game is entertaining from my viewpoint.

Totally agree with what you are saying, I just think that, in this instance, "planet turning out to be planet everyone thought it was anyway" is not worth lying about to begin with...

Unless of course JJ is hiding a central plot point that requires us not to know it's Tatooine...

Well, he's hiding it under a pile of sand and moisture vaporators if he is. He could have chosen a better hiding spot...
