Thanks for that! Very interesting. I think he'll have a cameo in Episode VII but most assuredly he will have a beefier role going forward.

I don't think he's playing Plagueis. Could be but Plagueis is a Muun -- rather tall and gangly, which Serkis is not.

Definitely THIS. I really hope Max Vox Sydow plays the BIG villain, unveiling itself at the end of EP7, thus building up through the rest of the trilogy. His voice and his presence would make for a perfect bad guy IMHO.

How about this... He is the former apprentice of the Emperor who he was training to replace Vader after a New Hope. Remember Vader was kind of a fool in a New Hope. He was being bullied by the governors and on a leash by Tarkin. Something happened between ANH and ESB as Vader was much more in charge in Empire. This is probably the time Von Sydow was cast aside by Sidious.

Yes, I definitely feel that he will be a great military leader as well. I think we will see him as a Thrawn type character on a mad pursuit to the home world of the Sith to seek out and emplace a new emperor or Sith ally to the empire. What is an Empire without an Emperor? And how can the force be balanced without Sith? An order of Sith, with a new Emperor and a great military strategist.

    I really like that idea.

Another idea I had was that Max would play Kanan Jarrus, the lead Jedi from REBELS. Just an idea, but I doubt it would happen.

we have not Heard ANYTHING about Max Von Sydow, so he will probably play one of the biggest roles in the film (on the dark side/empire side, since we know nothing about their new leaders) a role the want to keep secret as long as possible, so the longer it goes without any information on his character, the bigger the possibility he will play an antagonist leader with much Power (political/militarical &/or dark side of the force) can´t wait to see what they will do with him, he has already played a lot of memorable roles in sci-fi Movies :)

A human Darth Plagueis sounds cool. I couldn't take the the alien species the chose for him in the book seriously, lol...

Considering it was George Lucas who decided Plagueis be a Munn, I doubt they would change that. It would make more sense for Max to be an entirely new character.

Great point about Sydow's age. As awesome as he is, 85 is too old to plan a multi billion dollar trilogy around. Get his in episode VII and kill his character off there.

I like the idea that he's a sith with one killing off the other by the end of the movie, leaving Driver or whoever to carry on as the antagonist for the series. I kind of like the idea that we are led to believe Sydow is the master but it turns out that Driver is much older than he appears and that Sydow was HIS apprentice the whole time. And Driver kills him off at the end with a new apprentice in mind.

I would love to see him as a Sith ghost on Morriban or another Sith planet, teaching someone like Yoda did for Luke. Kinda like a reversal of Luke. Not the last of the Sith but the first of the new.

I think he should be a Sith Lord. And it is a good idea to have his character killed off just in case he's not around for E8 or E9.

Everyone is pointing toward a bad guy...I harken to an alternative theory...
    1) Could he not be a lost Jedi that has been a hermit type character? Perhaps hiding after Order 66?

    or

    2) A leader of the Rebellion that we have yet to meet? Garm Bel Iblis type of character (from Thrawn Trilogy)...Might be neat to see that Han has decided to put his hat in with Sydow and a Corellian anti-empire...anti-republic. Maybe disenfranchised with happenings since Luke left and since Corellia built ships he is back there. Could be nice to see home planet of Han and Wedge....

Actually that's a really good idea right there. There were people evacuating the death Star at Endor if I remember correctly. Nice.

I was beginning to believe I was the only one thinking he could be a Rebellion leader, or some other type of good guy. He would make a great baddie, but he could bring so much to any role he'll be playing. I'd love to see him as the ultimate leader of the Rebellion, or whatever they're calling themselves 30 years later.

I haven't heard anybody mention this and thought I would put it out there. Maybe Max's character was a bounty hunter from around the clone wars era on, that had cybernetic enhancements. I think Max would be a great fit for an old aged Dengar.

I am one of those opposed to the bounty hunter bandwagon for any character, but I will accept being proven wrong.

I shall once again throw my support behind being Von Sydow being the former master of Adam Driver, the one who initiated him in to the ancient third order, those who seek and collect the relics of the Jedi/Sith conflict. Driver, spurred on by the philosophies of the Sith, overthrew and cast his master on to a backwater planet where it takes seeing one of his old relics to spur him back in to action.

Even if I am completely off I think the rumored flashback, if it happens, will involve Von Sydow.

I know this probably won't be the case but......... Every time I look at the photos of Max Von Sydow shown on starwars7news.com it strikes me funny how much he resembles Sir Alec Guinness (without the beard of course). Like I said, it's more than likely not the case.
