SPECULATION Lor San Tekka (Max Von Sydow's Character).

To be fair, General Grievous also popped out of nowhere for audience members who never watched The Clone Wars.

 

Max von Sydow is too old to be Kanan. Kanan is only 14 years older than Luke and MvS is 22 years older than Mark Hamill. I don't think that he will be Kanan.

 

No, I hope Andy Serkis voices the character. That's what he has always done, ex. Gollum, Ceaser, etc.

Here is who MvS could play IMHO:

1. Darth Plageous (voice of) with Serkis doing his body
2. Montross, a retired bounty hunter
3. Obi-Wan's force ghost

Keep in mind, MvS could play both 1 and 2. Given his age, anything physically intensive is out of the question... which is why I think it makes most sense for it to be 1 and 2. When we first meet MvS, he's Montross, a drunk Clone Wars story telling has-been. Classic misdirect. Later, when his true form is revealed, MvS' voice may be recognizable, perhaps the face, but his body will be capable of amazing feats.

Remember, there was a rumor that claimed MvS was recording VO for Episodes VIII and IX now... in case he passes. Makes sense for him to voice something terrifying, likely brought to life via mocap and Serkis.

No one in Episode VII can hold a candle to Ian McDiarmid's portrayal of pure evil. Only the master Max von Sydow can match if not top Palps in sheer villainy!!! His eyebrows alone can induce more fear than Adam Driver in whatever janky suit they put him in. True fax. Sorry.

 

I like the first 2. I really don't want to see a third actor play Obi-wan... Clone Wars doesn't count.

 

This article is weird. What is this about "We know from Darth Vader, Yoda and others that someone who is powerful with the Force ages slower than normal. " That's not really a thing.

What if Sydow is playing a clone of obi wan.

 

You don't cast Max Von Sydow and not use him to the full extent of his abilities. I don't think Von Sydow himself would sign on for a role unless there were some good material for him to chew on.

 

To be fair, Sydow has sleepwalked through some dull roles including the father of Solomon Kane.

 

Maybe so but I'd hope JJ would be smart enough to give him something more than a dull role.

 

I stand by MVS just doing VO(voice acting) for Plaguis. He can be a "hologram" in the 3rd act of TFA, then be in a few scenes of EP8 then waxed in the climax of EP9.
It seems to make sense at this point, unless JJ & Lucas roll out major hints of a new villian or group of villians.

I believe Alec Guiness and Max von Sydow were close friends and mutually-respecting colleagues? It is possible that Lucas approached MvS in order to give him the chance to carry on his former co-star's work, or that MvS heard of the search for a new Obi-Wan and put himself forward to ensure the job was done correctly--just as Steve Martin did when he took on the mantle of his own former friend, Peter Sellers, in playing Inspector Clouseau.

Just a thought....

 

I really hope MvS its NOT playing Obi-Wan.

I definitely hope we get to see him on screen. It would be a waste to only have him do a voiceover, even if his voice is very intimidating. I'd just want him to play some mystic character, that gives the story a big plot twist.

 

He is AWAKENED for this one.
