    Ok guys, I've just read 'Aftermath'. I don't know if this has been mentioned but I have a theory:

    Is MVS - code name: 'The Vicar' and acolyte of the beyond?

    an acolyte is someone who performs religious duties as part of a ceremony or who has been inducted into a particular ministry....

    That does fit some rumours that described him as a collector of antiquities...
    But I'm not so sure.
    If MVS is the one who Poe travels to Jakku to meet, then I would say no... but if he's someone else entirely, it's certainly possible.

    If he is an acolyte who collects artefacts then I'd bet that he has given Rey that staff and he's trained her to use it....

    MVS is a distinguished actor but because of that I think we are assuming to much about the extent of his role. I don't think we have heard a whole lot about his character is because his role is small. If he is the vicar like we expect he will have an important role as he is the one with the lightsaber at the beginning of the film. His meeting with Poe is what starts the story and puts into motion the adventures that follow. It is a very important role but one that by no means needs to be marketed, have a lot of fanfare or revealed before the movie is released.

    i think the character will be very mysterious (& already is, since we know nothing about him) & will not be fully explained in TFA & the smaller the role is, the more important it will probably be ,,, "vicar" to me could mean "historian" & he might be the old "librarian" that knows all about the old jediorder & sith-mythology that will either help Luke (&/or Rey/Finn) with information about past events or Kylo Ren, depending on sides , maybe both? :) & i would not be surprised if he turns out to be the connection between the PT/rebels & TFA

    One of the recurrent themes of Star Wars is man versus technology. Perhaps Lor San Tekka is a person who has stopped believing in the promises of technology and chosen a life on the edges of the known galaxy where technology no longer plays an important role.

    Some people believe that non-practical effects (CGI) ruined the prequels. Larry Kasdan is apparently one of them. Perhaps, Lor San Tekka is (partly) inspired by Larry Kasdan.

    Maybe Lor San Tekka was chosen to pay homage to his real name, Max von Sydow, since he is such a revered and legendary performer.
