I think that Luke will have the same kind of screen time that Obi Wan Kenobi have in A New Hope.. ;);)

    Or maybe longer.
I can't believe one of the big three is being treated this way.

Obi Wan Kenobi had quite a bit of screentime in ANH, so if Luke gets more or less that amount of spotlight, I'll be very pleased.

Hamill was among the very first actors to be approached about TFA, and he was able to put forth an ultimatum condition for his participation (i.e. "either all main actors gets involved, or I'm not in"), so it is inconceivable that they will have given Hamill a throw-away presence. If, and I don't believe it, but IF Luke is seen in a single scene towards the end, then they must let his presence be felt in other ways throughout the movie, and he must have a much bigger roll in the next one (or else, the set-up and reveal doesn't make sense). Also, since pretty much everyone in the entire world knows that Mark Hamill is returning as Luke Skywalker, trying to hide Luke in TFA doesn't make much sense.

No, my money is on Luke having a significant presence in TFA, including several hero scenes of his own.

I tend to agree an all or most of those points. The theories about Lukes screen time in TFA doesn't make a lot (or any) sense to me...I'm hoping that you and I are pleased with the final result. He just spent too damned much time (6 weeks) in a London flat (or hotel) to be in one or two scenes....the math just doesn't figure to me.

I think it's Luke's Jedi school on Tatooine after being destroyed by The Seven.

    That's the million dollar question.

    I believe they are.

The rumor/theory is that Maz will tell us that he he hasn't been seen or heard from since his new Jedi Academy (or whatever you want to call it) was destroyed.

Because he was found. If finding Luke is indeed the *ultimate* goal of our heroes, then it wouldn't make much sense for him to turn up midway through the movie. I'd like Luke to have more screentime too, but this MSW speculation certainly seems plausible in light of the other things we think we know about TFA so far.

I agree that Luke getting one or two scenes sounds highly suspect. And maybe, hopefully, that wont turn out to be true. But at the very least all signs are pointing to Luke getting little screen time in this movie.

I can't help but think many people are cherry picking spoilers based on what they like or want to see and ignoring what they don't.

This idea that Luke is going to get at much screen time as obi wan flies in the face of every thing we know so far. To me your setting your selves up for a huge disappointment.

As long as the movie is good I'm fine with whatever screen time any character gets. I'd rather get that than fan service. We have two more movies to go and I'm sure Luke will have his shinning moment at some point.

Keep calm and enjoy the wait.

I like that he is in the movie but i don´t know where he fits, it could be easier to place him as Yoda in the second act/movie of the trilogy. Instead of shoehorning him into every frame they should place him where he is needed. Quality >Quantity.

The premise of the entire movie seems to indicate that it builds to a finale where Luke is "revealed/found"

We may see Luke throughout the movie however except we won't know that it is Luke. That is one way of doing it.

Or the movie will show Luke (with R2?) at that campsite several times as he has visions of the past/future/our heroes in trouble etc.

Our Luke will be communicating with Rey/Finn/Maz/Kylo/Uber/Leia through the force at various points in the movie. That is another way of him being in the movie without actually being seen until the end.

Thats exactly what you're doing yourself. It is SO aobvious that you cant stand the fact that your favorite fansite MSW is not right all the time. If anything you are the one who is way to trusting on spoilers in general and you are the one who is setting yourself up for disappointment.

Luke getting Obi Wan screen time has a MUCH bigger chance of happening than the lame Luke in only one or two scenes rumor that so many people so despertately want to believe.

Luke may be in one scene, 10 scenes, or 100 scenes, I don't know. However, people should not let his screen time dictate whether the movie is good or not. We need to take Mark's own words to heart.

“Believe me, it will be here before you know it. Forget about it – that’s my advice. Look forward to all the summer movies. I’m telling you, it’s just a movie. These people that build it up in their minds like it’s going to be the second coming of, I don’t know what — they’re bound to be disappointed.”

Those who build it up in their minds that this movie is only going to be good if Luke has tons of screen time or has to do epic heroic deeds for the movie to be good a will end up like this quote if it turns out he he doesn't do what they expect.

Let's just relax, take a big breath and not set parameters on what will make TFA a good movie. Let's let JJ and all the quality actors do there job and when the movies released decide if Luke's screen time or lack there of makes the movie good or bad.

Get two things straight before you flame me -

    1. I have NO love for MSW.

    2. I will hardly be disappointed if Luke gets more screen time.

Clean it up if you're gonna contribute to this site.

    Hi everyone,
What we seem to forget is Luke was a part of the initial table read last year. There were also photos of him around London the week before the read. Some people consider the table read a publicity tool, but everyone there looked pretty focused to me.

Hamill was also there throughout most of the shoot, even skipping out on Comicon and I'm sure passing up on other work($$$) he could have been doing. Unless they were paying him a load of cash more than they already had to, it makes no sense for one of the best voice actors in the business to just take a sunmer off to hang out around the set.

I'm sure other sites consider their information reliable. No one is blatantly making this one scene rumor up.

Disney may have boat loads of cash to throw around, but any financial controller or executive would have a hard time swallowing an expensive pill like that. Simply saying, follow the money trail and it will lead you to the conclusion Hamill must be in more than a cameo. Unless he took some sort of honorary pay cut, which I sincerely doubt(why should he?), we will see Luke in at least a decent portion of the last act of the film.

    Guys,

Even Hamill himself has tried to warn fans not to get too geeked up about him in Star Wars. He said "it's just a movie." This story is not primarily about the Big Three. Han will be featured more in Episode 7, Luke will probably have the most screen time in Episode 8.

There's clearly a great dicotomy as regards this subject matter (I am personally struggling with both points of view).

On one hand, I agree that it would certainly be possible that Mark Hamill appears only at the end of the movie (not counting flashback Luke) IF it serves the plot. And that would also imply that his role should be greater and more prominent in Episode VIII.

Still, I do agree as well with people who think of the idea of Hamill filming only one scene as supicious (we know he was in London for several months, but we know nothing about him as regards the actual filming in Pinewood). Also, it does not look like a very good idea from a business point of view (in theory).

But the one thing that truly bothers me is if Han actually dies in TFA and I do not get to see just one more scene with him and his old friend Luke, together for the last time.

Yes, I will still love and enjoy the movie if the story is great, no matter what. And this is just a personal (and selfish) desire as a fan of these two great characters. It is simply a nostalgic wish, having waited so many years for this new installment. In the end, I know that the plot and the new characters are far more important than this, I am by no means a blind supporter of fan service.

In conclusion, I deeply believe that we are all in for a real treat in December, whatever happens. I have a lot of faith in JJ and Co. And I know that we should just relax and wait patiently for the release. But, it is a damn difficult challenge to achieve! (r2-d2)

Ahhhh but in theory his lack of screen time can effect the quality of the movie by way of the script. If the plot is not believable or doesn't explain why he's not present or the reason for his absence contradict what we know of his character it can very well effect the quality of the story.

Hamill's schedule (and his inconsistent beard and hair size)

The other actors had to keep their hair sizes consistent as far as I can tell.
