I think that Boyega and Ridley have been casted specifically as unknown for this matter. Considering there will an episode every two years they won't have much time to play everything else much. I think they both accepted when they were casted to play this role as long as Disney wants to.

As long as the stories are good, people are gonne see it and if you look at TFA as if it was the first you have ever seen, it was a great movie. There is many people in the world who's gonna spent 10$ every two years to see what Finn and Rey has become.

But Disney is not stupid so I think they'll keep the old crew "thing" by creating a cartoon from ep VI to VII. They will have fresh Solo, Leia and Luke ( which the actors aren't anymore ) and give them every freedom to write a lot of things during these 30 years ...

You really have no idea what you are talking about do you? If you look at finn as played by boyega you will see he is only doing 3 movies. In many interviews he has expressed wanting to do different roles and work with various actors. Daisy has purchased the rights to a movie she wants to direct and has also stated wanting to work in different genres. You can not do that filming star wars every year. no you will only get 7,8,9 then we will have to follow their adventures in other forms of media.

If you think the Rey's arc is gonna end at IX, I can take the bet you're wrong.

@romall smith isn't saying that her arc will end but rather we will simply see their personal lives play out ong other forms of Mesa .

Why not but I think they signed a priority to Disney somehow. And they'll be fool to refuse such an opportunity. The concept of Disney stars is a very old deal.

Yeah but if I think I understand what you're saying, it's that they're signed for three movies with the right of refusal afterwards (?) ...

Point is they signed for 3 movies. After that all bets are off. They don't have to come back if they don't want to. The most definitely do have to spend their entire career dedicated to starwars. They aren't indentured servants to micky mouse.

Having troubles locating my posts (I'm probably missing something obvious), so I'll have to do this another way. Initially what I did was create two male lead characters and presenting the traits of the alpha male character to his far weaker companion. But to save time this time around I will instead ask you to imagine if TPTB had written both Rey and Finn as males and give them the same characteristics as we saw them display in TFA (just without some of that touchy-feely stuff between them).

So male character #1 would be Rey. That meant he would be the best fighter, a great pilot, a highly capable mechanic, an individual who can understand the language of droids and Wookies, the one that immediately attains the respect of the great Han Solo, a person who is stubborn but never pays a price for it, the character never in need of saving but instead ends up saving his co-star repeatedly, one who is a powerful force user, the one who ends up defeating the main villain pretty much on his own and the lucky guy who continues to go on his journey near the end as he seeks to fulfill his destiny.

The other male of course is Finn who isn't as capable a fighter; in fact is always getting his butt knocked to the ground, displays levels of fear that his co-star never does, is deceitful regarding who he truly is and continues to tell falsehoods throughout the story, never saves anyone unless the person he saves ends up assisting him in the process, is made out to be the butt of jokes and a couple of visual gags, is in regular need of being rescued, doesn't get any true victories in the movie, doesn't appear to be anything special in regards to the force, gets knocked into a coma during the final battle with the major bad guy and stays in that coma as his co-star wishes him luck and leaves him behind to continue on his journey.

Now imagine that months before filming started TPTB decided that its the 21st century and it would be better if they made one of those two characters female. So they came to a decision to make Finn the female and thus went about casting a an actress for the role. And Finn, as a female, kept all of the above described "attributes" but was also given an extra amount of distinction by displaying puppy dog love traits whenever Rey is around her.

In this scenario the male (Rey) is clearly more capable and powerful than the female (Finn). In fact one can go as far to claim that there is a stereotypical and sexist portrayal going on here. And yet could you accuse TPTB of being sexist in this case considering that Finn wasn't written as a woman in this scenario but instead as a man? They just so happened to cast an actress in the role.

Despite all of that one would imagine TPTB having enough common sense to see the potential problem here. Would they want, in this day and age, to put out a product in which the female lead is so inferior to the male lead at everything and in a final disgrace is knocked out of action in the climatic battle? I don't think so. You can call it political correctness or good business sense, but I doubt they would want to send that type of message to the masses. As a result they would tweak it to give the female character more capabilities to put her at an equal footing or near equal footing. You can take that to the bank, especially with a person like KK running the franchise.

Now, back in our real world, couldn't TPTB done the same once they cast Boyega as Finn, THE first non-white human leading character in a SW film? It doesn't have to matter how he was originally written or how he was initially conceived. As soon as they chose Boyega to the role they could have given some thoughts about not playing up the familiar tropes of the mouthy black dude who can't hold a candle to his white co-star in abilities, resourcefulness and power.

When it comes to his Instagram account he tends to place things up in chronological order. At the very least he wouldn't hold om to a photo like that for over a year before posting it. There's nothing distinctive enough about it for him to do that.

Actually it's both Rey and Finn's story. Besides no one knows if Finn is going to have force powers or not it's still up in the air.

Finn seems like the type who will be doing something, stumble, and accidentally use the force but then Reu helps him calm down and think so he can have it "flow through him ."

Yeah, I said this earlier when we were all discussing this, but these are the same gloves used during some sports practices like when I played Collegiate Rugby and when I did fencing combat myself. Those gloves, while they may be weight lifting gloves are also used for boxing/martial arts practice as well .

I trained like that once for something special and it was amazing ... -ly ...awesome -_- I wonder how they will show off his hulking muscles and i hope that it's not through cybernetic enhancements because Finn deserves to show his skills on his own since hes supposed to be the average joe for us all to relate to as a whole community...i just hope we dont get a shirtless scene unless its partial to the story .

I hope Finn is force sensitive so this story breaks with 4-6. This arc should be about Skywalker family and the recreation of the Jedi Order. In fact, Snoke fears Luke return for that reason. He mentions it in Episode VII. If the only force sensitive people in the next film are Luke, Rey, some ghosts, and a new cast member that would disappointing.

Ok, I've been thinking about it, and I wanted to bring up this whole "Red Herring" argument again. The argument essentially goes that, marketing points towards Finn becoming a Jedi, only as subterfuge to hide the "big reveal" that Rey is force sensitive. I'm not talking about the racial tropes right now (and yes, some of them do exist despite the concerted effort of some to avoid seeing them), I'm just talking about the "Red Herring" argument. And I honestly, I can't put any stock into it. Here are the reasons why

    1. Rey has been front and center in the marketing as well. She is literally THE center of the movie poster. Was there anything... anything at all, that was supposed to convince us that she would become something other than a Jedi/FS? Then what exactly was Finn's character supposed to be distracting us from by wielding the light saber? Was it a reveal to anyone that Rey was FS? Did anyone expect something different for her as a co-lead?

    2. If there was no need/no point in trying to distract us from the foregone conclusion (that Rey was FS and would be a Jedi) why argue that all the marketing conspicuously alluding to his Jedi/FS future was all a ruse to distract us from what we already know to be a central part of the story? And why conclude that Finn won't be a Jedi because he doesn't win the light saber battle while not using the Force? Rey wasn't winning the light saber battle either until she used the Force.

    3. Does anyone really and truly believe that Finn featured on the movie poster with a light saber (something that has thus far been reserved ONLY for Force Users) and in the official trailer at the 1:29 mark (which is Han talking about Jedi while the video frames the Finn character) is meant to "throw us off the scent" of Rey's destiny?

Does that stand to reason to anyone? Finn is going to be a Jedi. They could NOT be more obvious about it. They could not give more context clues. That it didn't happen in the first movie does not at all dissuade me that it is going to happen. Technically speaking, NO ONE became a Jedi in the first movie. Finn is going to have his day. And I really wonder how a lot of you (fans and haters) are going to reconcile your comments and reasoning now with what Finn becomes.

Again, watch from the 1:29 mark
