if this really is a deliberate metaphor it's insanely brilliant.
if it's just a coincidence, then it's still insanely brilliant in another way ~ hahaha

 

So Kylo is oscillating between the Dark and Light Side, Snoke is bringing him more into line, reducing his dynamic range - preventing an overdrive or distortion -or at least, that is what he telling him? But the truth is limiting the dynamic range can cause distortion if it is cutting too deeply, in other words no compression /power boost without any distortion?

 

i think the point of the oscillator (as least as they are ascribing it,) is that it's the machine that's making things happen (like the compressor, like Snoke). destroying it, destroys the machine, restores the sun/son. i like the idea of oscillating between Light and Dark, though. i mean, i guess we could spin this a hundred ways if we put on our tinfoil hats ~ hahaha

what matters is that it works ~ and that everything comes out in the wash, whether they intended these metaphors or no!

I think I agree with every single thing in this podcast (except maybe some of the symbolism that the guy mentioned seemed to be pushing it a bit)! I will have to catch some more of them. The hosts' viewpoints pretty much express how I see this ST--trying to see the big picture of not only this trilogy, but SW as a whole, especially in light of literary/storytelling themes and traditions.

I too liked the compressor-Snoke analogy, as well as the "missing piece" of the map--I had never thought of those before. The map part is particularly interesting since R2 did not come back to life until Rey set foot on the Resistance base...

The "throwaway" or ambiguous lines segment was interesting too. I wonder if we will learn what "Don't be afraid, I feel it too" means. That line still bugs me.

Kylo was suppose to go to Snoke but ends up on Ach-to with Luke...
Rey was supposed to find Luke and ends up on Ach-to with Luke...

Is Snoke on Ach-to?

In TFA, time passed once Rey and the others returned to the Resistance base before she left for Ach-to. (There was at least time to stabilize Finn, to figure out the map, and for everyone to change clothes and get a shower. ) It's possible there was plenty of time for Hux to take Kylo Ren to Snoke, wherever he is, before Kylo Ren turned around and headed out to Ach-to.

 

i still think he's referring to the sense of invasion from the probe--the pain it causes and the feeling of being mentally crowbarred open; this is why she realizes that she can get into his head too: the doorway goes both ways and he just revealed that to her.

Well who knows, their first meeting didn't end well, the imagination online is amazing.

 

Yes, that's certainly one option for me; another is that he feels their destinies are intertwined and that they are somehow connected (in a ying-yang way). Or he could mean simply the enveloping power of the Force. And there could be another interpretation out there in the future that we can't frame yet.

I rewatched the "compressor" parts of TFA after listening to that podcast you posted--I had forgotten the line that the compressor "puts too much stress on the hyperdrive." Yes indeed! In fact, that hyperdrive is being torn apart. Bypass that compressor, Rey, by all means!

I listened to the SWC podcasts about the Celebration artwork. Wow! That was so amazing to hear such broad perspectives and viewpoints, based on world philosophy and art history. I am a fan of theirs now!

 

ohhh, good point about the possible "bond" ~ they are definitely both on each others' radar at that point. we know she's seen him, and he's felt her (at the very least), so if there's some kind of Force static between them, he'd be more likely to recognize it than she would.

ever since i saw someone mention Rey as a scavenger who salvages treasure from broken things, it's felt to me like that's a pervading metaphor and it would apply to the compressor as well ~ like you said: maybe she'll find a way to bypass it (if she hasn't already; he did go off the rails there at the end ~ hahaha).

i'm always amazed at the phenomena that is Star Wars; even when people quibble or outright quarrel here in the Cantina, it's because there's just so much dang passion that people have for this world and the way it contributes toward shaping their understanding/interaction with the real one.

 

Whaaaat? People quarrel here? But you're right--it's all out of passion for GFFA, which has in some way shaped our perspectives on real life and how we see the world and people around us.
