REYLO - Potential Evidence For & Against

A film is made three times - during script writing, during filming and during editing. What works on paper, doesn't have to work with real actors. What works on set, doesn't have to work inside a context of a film. Cut scenes or lines do not matter. What matters is the final film. Is the line campy? Sure. Was it in the movie? No. So it's not important and it's not a reason to criticize a filmmaker, especially if he was one of the people who worked on editing the film (and we know he was.) It's just a fun insight into creative process.

 

You realize that Kylo Ren saving himself (with the help of Rey, a la Luke and Vader) and being redeemed and not continuing the FO's murderous rampage IS all part of Reylo, right?

 

Kylo still seems pretty murderous to me after Rey's intervention.

 

Fair enough. For me personally the romantic relationship doesn't come from "rescuing" in any way. It comes from a recognition of a soul-deep similarity and connection, as in this quote from the novelization: “When her tears finally ebbed, Rey lifted her head. She knew who she had to talk to about the cave, about what she had sought and what it had shown her—someone who would understand how solitude and loss could eat away at you until nothing was left.”

Obviously there's no future for Rey and Ben until he gets his act together and redeems himself. (And yes, I think Rey will help somehow, because every human being needs help. Besides, that's what heroes do!) But when he does, then all the romantic pieces we've had scattered around in TLJ can come together to form a whole.

 

I'm afraid I will need canonical evidence. (Bwahahahahaahaha!)

 

Kylo was surely excited to see Rey again.

I am not sure Kylo's redemption can be separated to his connection with Rey anymore. No matter if he saves himself or not she already *had* an undenyable influence on him. He chose her over Snoke twice now...first time at the end of tfa second time when he killed him. She is in his very soul, tormenting him and he is haunted by the touch she never should have given him.
They *touched* through the force...i think her face and the tears that ran down it say it all about how important that moment was.

 

Generous and brave of RJ to share something not that great with the fans. He could have easily left it out of the special. Respect.

 

He already shared a movie that was not all that great so what does he have left to fear.

 

In your opinion. In mine it's pretty good.

He's also not afraid to give credit where credit's due. Remember the wink that Luke gives 3PO? It was Mark's idea. Or Leia line to Holdo about saying "May the Force be with you" too many times or the one about changing her hairstyle she says to Luke. These were Carrie's ideas. Or

was Benicio's idea. In the original script there used to be something like "I am wrong, but I'm also rich."

 

Eagerly waiting for your next SW feature film in which you show RJ how it’s done.

Interesting, it’s funny how all those changes give really nice touches of humanity to the film. leia’s hair is a recurrent theme in the ST it seams, and something that Carrie talked at length in her book, the princess diarist. Those side buns are representative of the surreal experience SW was for her at the age of 19.

I love benicio’s maybe, it’s actually his best line in the movie, I think. It kind of opens him up a bit as a character, showing he’s more self aware and in control than we previously thought.

 

Really? Did you not see the Prequels and how many Jedi there were?

 

The number of Jedi is not a problem and how is showing a multitude of Jedi during the height of their power lazy writing? It was actually quite clever showing how thousands of Jedi were lead to destruction by one man. The laziness is Rey's character. She is really powerful because she looked in Kylo's mind? Really that is the best the Lucasfilm staff could come up with? She is great with the Force within seconds and that is so against the established canon it is more than insulting. Luke saw Obi Wan do a mindtrick in the first movie. So in Return of the Jedi when Luke does the same thing we see the growth Luke he has went through and now he is the master. He earned it.

 

Well, in these new movies the force is just not what it used to be, go figure.
