SPECULATION Rey's parentage, do you still hold the same view you have going into TLJ?

I think she could be Sabine and Luke's daughter. Meeting after ROTJ.

But I don't know if the movies point to a Kenobi.

I thought she would be Luke's daughter going into TFA but the film didn't tell us either way. Not much else has been revealed since the TFA so I really don't know what I feel/think except I want some ice cream.

Add in "being a Kenobi" somewhere in there, and those are my feelings exactly. Now, do I think Luke will have a child? More likely than not in my head. Just not sure that kid will be Rey (or Finn, given the nature of JB and MH's Twitter feeds handle things). I also still believe Han might have been the one to drop Rey off, but time will undoubtedly prove me wrong.

 

The way i see it - theres to many convoluted retcons that need to take place before Rey can be either Kenobi or Skywalker. Even though i kinda wish that were the case. Then that leaves us with the fact that she is infact "random" or at least not in any way related to Skywalker. KK and everyone else does not hold back telling us this is saga films - Skywalker saga films. So if Rey who is clearly the hero of the new trilogy is NOT Skywalker - that leaves Kylo as the only new Skywalker if the new trilogy that we know of. So either the saga films end with ep 9 and also ends the Skywalker lineage since it's conception was not natural it was destined to end this way.

Another option would be for Kylo to be somewhat redeemed and hooking up with Rey - producing new Skywalkers for future Saga films. That has a lot of issues as well, especially given the way he treats Rey in EP 7.

Lets hope the writers come up with a great solution - i'm not entirely sure Reys lineage is completely locked down before EP 9 is written.

 

Definitely some random character with an upper class family who abandoned her.. possibly the grandaughter of Kenobi. Filoni will probably do an animated series covering the back story of her bloodline.

 

We know so little of her backstory, what would they need to 'retcon'?

In any case, her full backstory is going to look convoluted no matter what they do, but only a fraction actually has to be revealed in the movies.

 

Rey is Luke’s daughter. Why? The lightsaber called to her, it’s a generational story. The saga is about the skywalkers but if Rey is not Luke’s kid but has all these special abilities and is the new heroine, where does that fit in the long run?

It might have worked had the first six films been more than the Skywalker saga but since we’re 8 episodes in this saga, you end up diluting the story by making her someone else or just some random character.

 

I wish you were right but Sabine isn't a Kenobi. As confirmed in Season 3 of Rebels, she is part of the House Vizsla and her mom is Ursa Wren and her dad is unknown as of now (There isn't any hint that Kenobi had feelings for another Mandalorian). If Kenobi and Satine had a child before Satine death, Sabine isn't it.

 

I mean, you're probably right, but I'd not say that's definitive proof. Star Wars can be tricky like that.
After all, Leia Organa and her "father" Bail would beg to disagree.

 

All it takes is one quick line of dialogue and anything can happen...

 

With all the speculation - regarding Rey and Snoke I'm starting to get to the point where I just don't care. I've been back and forth so many times with my friends and colleagues that it's almost not worth the energy expenditure anymore.

That being said, I feel like Rey being a Kenobi would be awesome - but unlikely...
And I really REALLY hope she ISN'T a Skywalker - just to keep things interesting

 

Snoke is not Obi-Wan.

He is probably Darth Plagueis or at least is some manipulator, acting behind everything and everyone. Think like in the Foundation series how there was always a bigger man behind the curtains.

You have to tie it all together in a 9 part story. The father of Vader is the best way to do it.

 

Who said Snoke is Obi-Wan?

DP has been denied by multiple people in LF.

And DP diminishes Sidious making him a fool. It makes the entire saga about a guy mentioned at the opera rather than the chosen one. Vader carried 6 films. The ST is about his legacy.

 

I dont know why that got any traction you know when Sabine is obviously Space Asian.

 

Only by blood. Not in name or action anymore. An absolute disgrace to the fans of the Skywalker legacy.

 

Disgrace is a pretty big Skywalker legacy though
