Rose Tico in Ep 9

In my opinion, Finn and Rose’s relationship is probably a good sign for both of them:

-If Finn dies and Rose mourns him, that is too sad of an ending for a Disney film concluding a saga
-If Rose dies and Finn mourns him, that is also too sad
-If Finn and Rose both die, that is WAY too sad
-If Finn and Rose both live, you have a happy ending, and there is still a potential for some sacrifice (maybe Poe or Lando)

Pragmatically, I think Finn and Rose have a good chance of surviving IX.

Having said that, I also said there was a 0% chance of Snoke getting killed in VIII, so I could certainly be wrong.

 

Yeah... I don't really see them offing either character. I can say though that I can probably see them diminishing Rose's role in EPIX, which would be a shame. I liked Kelly in the role and I wish she officially joins the main gang in all sorts of shenanigans.

That's what I would love for them to do. Just send the 4 of them on a mission or something for the first half of the movie and have them bond. Star Wars is insanely good at using witty party banter, IMO. It's what made the original trio so endearing, look no further than their messing around on the Death Star.

 

Not that I didnt like her character, but I would rather see new big 3- Poe, Finn and Rey finally (!) share some screentime together and would have no problem with Rose fading into the background.

 

And I whish the main gang would actually do something together for once! Poe/Finn and Rey/Finn were so much fun in TFA. I would love to see Rey/Finn/Poe action. But I know JJ. JJ loves to split up characters. On the other hand he loves to please the fans. This will be tough for him. Hahaha!

That hug at the end with Finn and Rey, I don't think that'll be for nothing. I mean, the entire Resistance is on the Falcon. Including those three.

 

Kelly Marie Tran had a well deserved standing ovation during the Episode IX on Friday. We were able to see a glimpse of how she will look like in the movie. It seems we will see her at the Command Center.



During the panel they briefly talked about the love "triangles" in this new trilogy, to which they corrected as a love pentagon, because there are so many possibilities.

She was a big absent in the Teaser Trailer. I wonder why.

 

I am glad that she's back. I like Rose.
During the panel I thought some people would booze at her, fortunately she was cheered.

I wonder if this picture of Rose in TROS take place in Yavin IV.

 

Neither she nor Hux were in TLJ trailers either.

 

Yes, as the OP said, it was selfish. She should have let him be the hero, even if there wasn't much chance....however, he is the FO subject matter expert.

Rose was awesome in TLJ and she saves Finn from needlessly killing himself. She has a big heart and did very well in a limited role. I doubt she has a big role in the next film, but that's not really required anyway. I'm happy she got a big ovation. She's been the center for a lot of the over the top nitpicking nonsense that's gone on by a vocal minority.

 

I'm happy that she got a big ovation as well. She seems to be a sweet person, her character (in the movie) was not good, and people were mean to her based upon her race, which is uncalled for. Her race had nothing to do with why Rose was bad in the movie. We've been over this 9,000 times though.

 

Please explain, for the 9,001st time, why her character was "not good"? Given that your opinion is obviously fact, feel free to enlighten those that are not so lucky to possess your flawless judgment of fictional character.

I'm simply stating that DailyPlunge and I have gone back and forth on this topic already and I don't want to do it anymore. It's futile. Neither one of our opinions are going to be changed. Rose Tico was my favorite new character in TLJ.

Yes, she sucks at strategy. Yes, she cries. She's sort of clueless and obviously in way over her head. She's not soldier material - not even close.

Which is exactly why I loved her.

Rose is the face of the rest of the Resistance. She's isn't in it because she's a badass warrior, she's in it because it's the right thing to do. Just like the Resistance fleet is outnumbered and outgunned by the First Order, the Resistance fighters are outnumbered and outgunned by the Stormtroopers. Rose doesn't have a chance against the First Order, and neither does the Resistance, but they keep fighting anyway because it's the right thing to do. No fuel, no plan, no hope? No surrender!

The OT was never about two mighty armadas fighting each other - it's always been about one group of desperate rebels fighting against an Empire with limitless wealth, ships, firepower, and soldiers. It wasn't supposed to be a fair fight. The opening scene of A New Hope established that when Vader's Star Destroyer literally swallowed Leia's ship.

Which is exactly why I love Kelly Marie Tran's portrayal of Rose Tico. Sure, the First Order could swallow her. She's a crying little hero worshiping animal rights activist and they're Imperial Stormtroopers. That's the point - this is a ridiculously unfair fight, but the Resistance fights anyway because the alternative is unchallenged tyranny.

 

Rose has the biggest heart in all of Star Wars, and she's a commoner with no destiny or hidden talent to carry her through the dark times; she isn't even a fighter. She's no one in particular, a mean average of the population, which makes her us, the audience's, representative in the film. And even though she's just a commoner, Rose rises to the occasion to become a hero, adding perspective and context to the fight and the galactic civil war. Rose is the heart of TLJ. Doom right she cries! Doom right she stops Finn from choosing a pointless glory-death! Doom right she teaches us about the costs of war and the plight of the suffering, un-heroic massess! Doom right she puts Finn in his place and loves him nonetheless!

Rose is awesome!

 

I’m glad to see the reaction Kelly got at the panel. She deserved it and it was good for her to see that the core of the fan base appreciates her even when some fringe elements act like jackasses.

As far as the character of Rose goes, even though kelly was on the panel, I still think Rose is going to have a relatively small part in this movie
