Rose Tico in Ep 9

Yeah, I mean who would? I think he realized that his sacrifice would have been for nothing, judging how powerful the canon was.

 

I was ok with the character of Rose in TLJ. I didn’t really dislike or like her character. She was a good supporting character that helped lead Finn to the realization that he was now part of the Resistance. As far as her character in IX, I wouldn’t mind if she was developed more but it also would not bother me if she is left out as well. I suspect she will have some type of role in IX. It will be interesting to see what JJ does with her if she comes back

 

I would be fine if early on in episode IX, Finn is shown paying his respects at Rose Tico's grave before they leave whatever planet they are on and continue the story. The actress was fine, but Rose's character was so poorly written that I would just rather her be gone than to see her again.

 

Get the character to a director who can show some love to his characters and not bully them during all the movie and it might change.

 

Why bother?

 

I want Rose in Episode IX! I want Rose and Rey to have a friendship and at least ONE conversation not about Finn or Kylo.

I think her character and Kelly Tran's acting were both great. The character's naive idealism and total lack of strategic planning served as a strong contrast to the First Order's faceless, nameless death machine. Rose sure as hell wasn't soldier material but she was in the Resistance anyway because it was the right thing to do. I loved that about her. She helped the audience see how totally outgunned the Resistance was. Fewer, smaller ships, naive and idealistic soldiers, no fuel, no reserve forces, no Jedi, no chance against the FIrst Order. Kelly Tran nailed it. But Rose Tico served her purpose and it doesn't make sense to bring her back again. She's like the two headed pod race announcer guy - did well at illuminating part of the story, but do we really need to see him in the next few movies?

 

As long as they get her out of that gaudy wig.

Also, do you think they'll spend time addressing her psyche after her suicide attempt at the end of VIII?

I think the only times Star Wars actually passed that were at the beginning at Attack of the Clones. YMMV if Leia wishing Rey luck at the end of TFA counts.
YMMV with Leia and Holdo because they're talking about Poe for the first part of the convo...

Luke was the son of a queen & a knight. Anakin is the CHOSEN ONE.

THEY WERE ALWAYS "SOMEBODIES"

 

I wouldn't say always. Especially when ANH hit cinemas. In 1977 Luke was just a farmboy. So pretty much a storybook example of a nobody who becomes somebody. But in the end it doesn't really matter. A hero can be a "somebody" or a "nobody". Being a nobody was always the more popular story to tell because people could relate more to the character.

 

Alot of people look up to somebodies then nobodies.

If leagues hired players off the street those leagues will fail.

That's why even the "poorest" athletes get developed in minor leagues first or schools/academies.

So most people look up to somebodies.

 

So, what was Luke doing for 20 some odd years before finding R2 and 3P0? Clearly being a nobody.

I think we have a different definiton of "somebody". Yes, Luke was the son of people who where sombodies, no, who gained the title to be somebody. But Luke didn't in his first 19 years of life.

Rose Ticho is a great character for me.

Yes, she was involved in a subplot that wasn't really the best part of The Last Jedi, but the way she's introduced... come on I found that brilliant! The fact she looks as a little brat super-excited to know a hero, and the way it changes in a second and we find out her guts. The way she sheathes her weapon in that cool pose. I was sold from that first scene. Also, I never liked the idea of a romance between Finn and Rey, but I kinda like how Finn and Rose interact.

I'm looking forward to this group of characters once again.
