This is why I believe their reasons going into TLJ was more sinister than they care to admit. When the main guy, Mark Hamill tells you beforehand that you are going against who the character really is, but do it anyway, I can't help to think there was an agenda. It doesn't seem like the actors had any say so with there characters. If Hamill was ignored then you know the lesser actors have even less to stand on. When you are sincere in what you are doing you don't act defensive the way Lucas films has. You go back to the drawing board to see where you went wrong.

Hamill sounding the alarm ahead of TLJ's debut should have been everyone's red flag. But honestly, even I thought maybe he was trolling (he does that a lot). The fact that they did what they did to Luke basically let me know there was no hope for Finn, and only tangential hope for Rey (because the same way Luke seemed to be an avatar for George Lucas, Rey seems to be the psychological projection of KK into the cinema).

And while I won't hold Abrams accountable for not being able to tie a bow on this project with the last movie, I still feel like he should have insisted on working more closely in crafting the overall story, because his mystery box doesn't become a problem until Rian say, "screw this I'm writing a stand alone"

And I agree, LFL's response to criticism of TLJ was baffling. SOLO (despite the box office numbers) was a good movie IMO. So they're 3 out of 4. That's not bad. Not every Marvel story was a hit either, but they didn't take aim at the fans after disappointing numbers. The way LFL tried to double down on their line of defense and actually attack fans with non-sequitur was bizarre. I will never understand it outside of them vastly miscalculating the situation.

I have just started reading this thread. I find it an interesting read. I’ve e only read pages 249 - 253. But I’m impressed with the people who don’t like tlj with their honesty and passion for Star Wars. Also the fact that the people here who don’t like this movie prove to me that we aren’t all sexist, racist or politically motivated.

I do plan on reading the whole thread.

This this this. The MCU has released 8 movies since Episode 7 came out. No one is complaining of MCU fatigue. Why not? Because they are overwhelmingly good movies, cohesive, well planned and not an as hoc mess like you describe.

LOL, dude you are going to be here FOREVER. You don't have to read the whole thing. It became cyclical after awhile, you'll eventually see the same arguments and counter arguments posed. But you are correct in that the attempt to characterize all critiques of TLJ as racist, sexist, politically motivated (and every other reductionist argument offered) had no chance of prevailing. Ironically the push back came from far too diverse a crowd to simply paper over dissent as the rantings of nerds and man babies angrily posting from the basement of their parents house. There's no telling how many people actually disliked TLJ or if they represent a sizable minority or a fringe element, but there were plenty of serious substantive critiques.

They showed him pushing the seat back though! I caught that. Maybe like car seats. I remember reading something else where the seat was modified, but it could be legends material. I liked that little moment of Chewie just getting in there and taking over.

First off if Lucasfilms hadn't sold out to Disney we wouldn't be in this mess because Disney always made crappy movies that are too predictable, never get anywhere in the storywise, character wise, and unoriginality. Basically they just destroyed the continuity of the original SW movies and left everyone guessing so you're never truly into the story as deep as you want to be. Second off Rey is basically the female version of Luke Skywalker. Kylo Ren crappy version of Darth Vader. Snoke basically the Emperor now but much worse. So I'm pretty sure Disney is to blame for all of this. And if you're like me who likes the old ones and grew up with them you'll realize what I mean.

Disney's (by and large) done a good job with Marvel. I think the disconnect is somewhere between the influence at Disney and the influence at LFL

I don't think the MCU was a total failure but it wasn't exactly my favorite because they changed several things, the only movie I tolerate is AIW.

They changed elements of IW too though (compared to the comic book). I guess though what I'm saying is that there are a number of movies they had that work (for the most part) and they're under the umbrella of Disney too. I don't think Disney is necessarily (or entirely) the problem when it comes to SW. Like on one hand you could argue that having a SW movie every year does take away from the anticipation, but honestly I hated waiting years on end for a new SW. The new approach was working better for me until TLJ.

Marvel seems to be doing fine by Disney. Had Lucasfilm not sold to Disney, we wouldn't be getting any new content except for a finished season of TCW. Chewie would still be dead., NO new video games or no movies because the toxic fandom ruined any chance of George making any new movies by how they reacted to the PT. What other studio would be better than Disney? Sony? WB (they are killing DC)? SW would be dead by now had George kept SW. There was no new video games or shows/cartoons coming out. The one video game that everyone was wanting was in developmental hell, and had no chance of seeing light. So what other movie studio would of done SW better?

I'm really confused about the products they did with Star Wars. If you take out the 3rd act of Rogue One, it's really, really poor.

The ST is clearly amateurish, Forces of Destiny ( ahem ... ), The resistance isn't quality and Solo was Ok.

Amazing that they have done so poorly with that kind of material.

Any side quest of Kotor or Swtor has more creativity than Disney's Star Wars. Crazy.

What are you exactly trying to prove?

You know what's funny? That for a moment I believed that Prequel fans after the amount of misguided criticism they and the films they like endured would be the ones who will oppose the people who harass the creators on social media, dislike-bomb trailers for cartoons and call Star Wars dead because of a film they don't like. Guess I was wrong. Now you and people like you not only allow, but get satisfaction from actions like this. I know, #notallfans and "there are legitimate reasons for disliking TLJ" but this is not any one of these things. This is vile. This is toxic. This is sad. Grow up. The whole fandom doesn't revolve around you and your taste. If you still care for Star wasrs, focus on the future and if you don't want to have anything to do with it, then move on. Nothing is holding you back.

PS. You are not clever, funny or anything like that when you give "funny" ratings for my posts praising TLJ. Sometimes it's better to leave your opinions to yourself.

I don't like TLJ or by extension the ST, and even I find this "humor" somewhat tiresome. That said, you're in the hate thread of TLJ, which is by definition for the SW movie that has turned fans from lovers to haters, so an animation based on the ST is an extension of that. I suppose this comment could go in the thread meant for the animation, but I think it would be safer here and likely offend less people here. I'm not a fan, but at the same time I'm all for people being able to express themselves and receive feedback as a consequence to sharing their opinion. There's a line, I'm not sure if this crosses it, I wouldn't think so, but we all have our personal set of boundaries and I respect that.

Answering your PS, I've used the "funny" on some posts praising TLJ or aspects of it too, mostly in this thread. The point for me isn't to be clever or funny, nor is it to be insulting. To me it's the closest to respectfully disagree. I see it that way because I'm splashing some green on you instead of yellow (I think for some people that matters). You like it, I don't, but I can laugh about it instead of argue about it, because after all it is just a movie. That's my take anyways, I'm just throwing it out there because I hope people don't take offense to it based on assumptions on its meaning or intent. It could mean differently for other people, but I tend to extend the benefit of the doubt on here and would hope others offer me the same courtesy. In the absence of an explanation, I could understand you position, with the explanation of intent, maybe we can laugh it off as SW comrades.

No one is calling you an idiot (i'm not at least). Your post about SW Resistance had nothing to do with this thread (despite taking place several months prior). It's fine that you don't like the show (I'm not too crazy about it either) but this isn't the thread to complain about the show and to make a point on your dislike of TLJ.

It's still early in the game and who knows what The Resistance tv show could bring the table. It's a possibility that this show could eventually fill in gaps and make the ST more tolerable just like TCW made the PT more tolerable. If I recall, TCW was pretty childish early on and I remember everyone hated Ashoka at first.

As i quote Gold Leader "stay on target"

So it's not Ok to talk about Resistance but it's OK to talk about the Clone wars ? You guys just make the rules you want.

Maybe It wasn't the right place but too many people act in there as a if they were thought police. This is a dedicated place for people who felt let down by what Disney is calling Star Wars.

If people can't take other opinions, it's no use coming to discuss things on a forum. My opinion is that some people are not feeling really comfortable to read other people comments.

    my post was for everyone.
@Bandini, your post had nothing whatsoever to do with TLJ. it was merely delighting in negative reactions to Resistance, which is not healthy criticism, it's just needlessly inflammatory and contributes to toxicity in the fandom. it was not only off topic for this thread, but blatantly against the forum rule for bashing.
maybe you need to review Rule no. 12 again: https://thecantina.starwarsnewsnet.com/index.php?threads/rules-regulations-v1-5.1/

    12 - CRITICISM" vs. "BASHING"

This is a STAR WARS website by the fans for the fans. It is presumed you are a Star Wars fan, and that like all Star Wars fans you have aspects of the series that you really like, and other aspects of it that you might not like. While thoughtful criticism is part of healthy discourse, there is a fine line between criticism and outright bashing. When criticism becomes inflammatory, insulting and disrespectful to other fans, it impinges upon their right to discuss and express their enjoyment of everything Star Wars. This is, of course, unacceptable and will not be tolerated.

This site is intended for the social enjoyment of ALL who enter. We must all be mindful of this, and refrain from creating an environment in which forum members feel uncomfortable in expressing themselves. If you are here simply to bash the Star Wars franchise and its fans, then take it to another website where that kind of behavior is considered acceptable. It has no place here, and will be grounds for permanent banning.

Be respectful and considerate of other forum members' opinions, even if you disagree with them, and we'll all get along just fine.
    now again, please move on.
