They are almost the same moves shot for shot.
It's about the bond the two share. She fights like he fights. They're connected.

If you watch the edited view it looks like they entirely the same. If you watch them in context it's hard (in my opinion) to even make the case for foreshadowing (which I think was the original assertion which I was responding to).

If you think the similarities are meant to depict a bond you believe they have (and it's evidenced in their fight) that to me sounds like a different argument than whether or not it is foreshadowing. As for me, I think it might be difficult to watch the Throne Room fight and make a credible argument that she fights like him. I don't see it.

Seriously? They both fight with raw unbridled aggression. They use very similar strikes and stances throughout the fight. Driver is HUGE compared to Ridley so he's obviously more physical in it but the similarities are there.
Foreshadowing the moves of Ren in a one on one fight is what is happening in that scene. It's meant to be a connection between the two. All foreshadowing is to hint at a future event. In this case, the event is Ren's style of lightsaber dueling.
It's a great piece of visual storytelling.

I'm not sure how or why this is somehow controversial.

100% this. every time i read someone referring to this as a chase i thought to myself: but it's not, really.
a chase implies that the Resistance can actually get away. they can't; there's zero hope of them outrunning or outmaneuvering the FO.

it's absolutely a siege. in space.

and in the last moments, the holdouts abandon the castle and ultimately set charges to hold off the attackers so they can retreat into the forest.

    Or.....

It's literally the plot of Hunt for Red October (without the commandeering of the sub by the US, but the subterfuge is the same - save the crew, lead attackers away in a long slow set of maneuvers).

I'm loving having The Last Jedi on NetFlix. I have Google Home and all I have to say is "Hey Google, play Star Wars" and my TV turns on and plays TLJ. Yay, modern technology!

I don't always agree with him but I'd highly recommend looking up more things from FilmCritHulk if you really liked it.
    Great writer on film.

Here's his epic on Man of Steel:

I haven't seen Man of Steel (I know, I know) so it would be kind of lost on me.

I think it's still worth a read as it's more about story and characters rather than the movie itself, which he just uses as a template for things bad in movies.

The two commentaries are definitely linked by FCH's emphasis on characterization:

"IT'S NOT REALLY ABOUT "WHO WE THINK SUPERMAN SHOULD BE," BUT "THE PROBLEMS WITH THIS SUPERMAN AS HE EXISTS IN THIS PARTICULAR STORY.""

Sounds familiar.....lol (and I would agree TLJ does it better than MoS, which devolves into punchy-punchy-deus ex Jor-El-more punch-punchy stuff)

Right. Luke is given actual GROWTH and learns things.
Clark just...punches things and he's supposed to have grown and just punches more things.

To me Luke is the central reason most people are upset even if they don't want to admit it. They've been dreaming of superhero Luke for decades and they feel the rug was pulled out from underneath them. Then there's a segment hung up on Rey's DNA. The fact she's not related crushed some folks.

I'm glad they didn't have an ending were Luke just wrecked shopped, and turned into a God. He is still a human after all that just so happens to have powers. People seem to forget that we already have our important birth with Kylo.Having Rey be I dunno a Kenobi. I feel like that would have shrunk the universe, a universe that's supposed to be a galaxy.

    Oh I don't know.

Imagine all the fascinating depths and layers to the storytelling that could have been added if Rey had turned out to be Ob-Wan's second cousin twice removed.

It would have blown people's minds!

'Superhero' Luke doesn't work in any scenario: If he single-handedly defeats FO, why do we need new heroes? If he defeats FO including Kylo after Snoke died, our villain is weak. If Kylo kills Luke, that creates even bigger uproar - I'd be first in the line with pitchforks (not really, I am not that person, but I would be pissed).

Giving Luke actual growth and confirming his character - fighting in the most pacifistic way possible, buying time for Rey to save the Resistance and reaffirming his status as LEGEND on the galactic level, thus providing hope for the future is possibly the biggest reason I love this movie so effing much.
