Yay, a safe haven for us TLJ lovers. I fear the next two years will be TLJ lovers vs haters.

While watching it i was on the edge of my seat to see what would happen, excited that i was watching a unique SW movie. The first few hours after, i was trying to put my feelings in order, the fact that it was so different from expectations had me a little conflicted. Now i feel like i love it, now that i have had time to process everything. I will be watching it again in a few weeks, so my opinion may shift, although remaining on the love/like side.

The only thing i was not a fan of was super Leia. I felt like they should have done something slightly more grounded (perhaps by shortening the time that she was floating in space, or having her be thrown into the corridor outside the bridge and use the force to prevent the damage going beyond the bridge, getting injured herself, but saving the ship from greater death and destruction).

I hadn't seen this mentioned before, but I probably missed it. Did anyone else notice the little boy at the end force pull the broom to him?

Yeah, he did. There was a lot of discussion about it after the world premier, when that hateful first leak got everybody up in arms. I thought it was a wonderful scene, showing there are lots of "little reys" waiting out there.
By the way: I'm still in shock because of all the hate this movie is facing from people who consider themselves fans. I get it, people had expectations. But many people literally seem to have watched a completely different film. I kind of got the criticism with TFA, although I enjoyed it a lot... but this time I'm really baffled. And sad actually.

Remember the rumor where Rey was suppose to fight the sea monster? Did anyone notice the sea monster behind Rey in the ocean while Rey is following Luke up Ahch-To? It came up out of the water and went back down.

I spent the last two years trying to get as many spoilers as possible, but Lucasfilm did a good job keeping things a secret. I went dark as soon the film started getting screened. I'm happy I did, because people freaking about about stuff they haven't seen on screen is kind of crazy and it can influence how you see the movie.
Apparently there's fulls scenes that had to be cut out of the film. I wouldn't be surprised if this was one of them.

I did. I thought it was a nice little detail. I totally forgot about that leak... I wonder if it was one of those scenes RJ cut out of the movie early on. Or maybe the leak was wrong all along, although MSW proved to be pretty accurate once again.

Yep. When I saw her go to the dark cave I thought when she came out it would've confronted her resulting in Luke saving her in the process.

I wish I had your self control ;). My first completely spoiled Star Wars film was AOTC, and it's been that way ever since. But it doesn't take away from the effect the films have on me on first viewing. Though I have to admit all that freaking out that happened here after that last leak kind of dragged me down. But I'm ok now - I loved TLJ ;).

I was completely spoiled for TFA and it didn't effect my perception of the film. The difference here is people are raging about parts of the film they haven't even seen. It's kind of crazy.

Makes you question some people's maturity or emotional balance... It's ok when you're young, I've been there too with the prequels, to a point where Star Wars became more of a burden than a pleasure. But it gets kind of sad when people should behave like the adults they actually are.

Star Wars means a lot to me and I know it does to a lot of other people. After the prequels I quit paying much attention to Star Wars. I didn't love those films like some others do, but I didn't bash it or lash out at people who disagreed. There's something wrong when disliking film isn't enough and you have to go around rigging polls and yelling at the director for story choices you didn't like. It's just a movie series.

I laughed, cried and was shocked.
    It was great.

But there were also some parts which plain out sucked and deflated you.

I so totally agree with you. I think people just need to wrap their heads around the fact that it's never going to go exactly like they thought, unless they start writing and directing these movies themselves. Hate is such a strong word, and to be honest, there's never been a film I really hated - I just didn't like them. To apply this ugly term to something you actually care about makes things even sadder. I know that love and hate are very close, but to me it still speaks of an immense immaturity.

I assume that Luke dying is also playing a role for some of the older fans. This trilogy was never going to be about Luke. It kind of makes sense for him to die in this episode because he's too big of a figure. JJ had to leave him at the end so he wouldn't distract from the new characters. Obviously, Luke can still play a part in the next film, but it will be smaller and in support.

I really agree with you on this. I have not been around for many months, really over the last two years. I think my expectations for TFA ruined the movie for me. As much as I love this fandom and all the people in it, I had to get away to really give TLJ a fair shake. But now I have the NEXT two years to talk about it!

Well, we could all be Stoics and avoid the joy so as to avoid the pain, but where's the fun in that? :) I loved Star Wars when it wasn't cool to love Star Wars but the overall happiness I've received from the movies, the fandom and involving my family in it pales in comparison to may angst over the movies, warts and all.

That's a good point. For some reason I never had issues with Luke's role in these new films, although he truly was THE hero of my childhood. I always found the EU stuff they came up with for him kind of boring, so this approach is a welcome one for me. And his death was beautifully done, no complaints there. No complaints at all, actually ;-)

To me, Star Wars has always been about the power of myth and how the films move me. This film did not disappoint. Even though Luke wasn’t the Luke we (and Hamill himself) envisioned, it was his character that spoke to me the most and provided the insight I needed at a time of adversity. No more wallowing on the island, time to get back into the fight! There are many other things I could say about what I liked about this movie but that is the most significant IMO.
