Apparently the entire world hates TLJ. I'm totally cool with being the only one on the planet who likes it. I really am okay with that.

I'm also totally cool being the ONLY U2 fan in a packed stadium of people in Miami last summer. I mean....everyone hates them right? Why would ALL these people come to see a band the whole world hates?

I'm reading of folks walking out on this film (didn't happen anywhere) and being done with SW forever (no they aren't). Apparently it's hip now (maybe always has been) to hate the thing-de-jour to make one feel better about themselves.

They are pretty pathetic, but I loved the film!

Solo has failed.............before it came out? That's a new one on me. I wasn't aware it came out yet.

I mean, my dad was disappointed with the movie. He was talking about how he didn't like how Snoke and Phasma were handled and wished Luke had longer to live. But he still ranked it third in his list of Star Wars movies all time. I think that's the disconnect. People are so emotional about not getting what they wanted and Luke dying, that it overshadows a great movie. And when the objectively look at it they realize, "yeah that was one of the best Star Wars movies ever".

I appreciate a sincere disagreement. I really do. I went in not knowing what to expect because everyone said 'it's different'. Whelp.....If it's different, then I have no clue, so I'll just roll with it.

I thought it was well made, some great classic scenes, LOVED the humor which I never felt was forced at all. Every laugh was earned, no poop jokes.

Sometimes not knowing what to expect is the best way to go.

Keep in mind that Han Solo, Luke Skywalker and Leia (due to Carrie's passing) are all gone now. This opens up Episode IX to give more time to Rey, Kylo, Finn and Poe. I think those will be the four main characters.

Luke's not done. I'd bet my opening night ticket for Ep9 on it.

I wanna add, that I love the Rey took books from the tree. I think that this is her taking on the responsibility of not only training herself, but rebuilding the Jedi Order. Did anyone else see it that way?

I didn't think that when I saw it, but that totally makes sense in the best way!! Also loved how Yoda was like "Burn that down, you will? This, I got bro!"

    Yoda!! lol

Also, I am so happy that we got to see Yoda once again on the big screen once again. This film has been simply making me feel warm and fuzzy inside since the moment I saw it. I've really, really liked it (it seems like I'm just repeating myself, so I'll just finish here.)

I'm just talking about the feel I get from it. RO really disappointed me. I don't have faith ins Disney fir spinoff show atm. Maybe failure is too strong a word, more like... uncomfortableness.

I can appreciate a well-crafted disagreement. In my book, RO is one of my top 3. On some days, it's my favorite. Different strokes and all.

I was being sarcastic. LOL. Of the very few problems I had with TFA, lens flare was not even on the list. But it will become a 'thing' again now that JJ is back in the director's seat.

Mark this day...as the day...that dudebrohomie predicted that 'lens flare will become a "THING"' once again!!

    Let's agree to disagree.

But on Lens Flares...I agree. JJ will bring them back solely to annoy people.

I loved the movie. I thought it was creative and original. We saw some things we haven't seen before and were waiting to see. I know a lot of people are disappointed about the character development. I honestly think there was a sufficient amount of character development. Killing Smoke quickly placed more emphasis on Kylo Ren and the main Villain which i thought was a genius twist. Luke was very believable considering what he went through. Lastly I think Rey didn't need to be related to a previous character when Kylo is already. To have two decendants of previous characters show down would have been too chiche. A new force sensitive character was badly needed. I know a lot of people wanted Rey to be a Skywalker/solo or even Kenobi, but Star Wars needs to move on otherwise it's just silly that characters children keep fighting each other. The galaxy is much greater and expansive than that. People need to get it out of their heads that characters do not always have to live on. Change was needed. The movie was original and creative. I think they did well with this one. I give it a 9/10. Only part i didnt like was Rose... I thought she was unesessary. That could have been a Finn and BB8 mission.

I loved the movie more than I thought I would. Seen it a second time and it made me love it even more. I had written why I loved it in another thread so I won't repeat myself, but once you get all emotions from losing this character or that one, or the disappointment some seem to have with how some characters were handled, you will realize this movie was a masterpiece.

Yes, a masterpiece. This one is going down as top 3 all time for all things star wars for me.

Hi everyone, I've stayed away from this forum for almost a good year now, and it's great to be back catching up on everyone's fine words of wisdom and posting in THIS thread because-

    I LOVED THIS MOVIE.

I didn't love TFA, for reasons which I won't belabor again here. With this movie I felt more as if I'd seen a Star Wars movie- not as tight a story as the OT, but with the same genuine feeling of camaraderie and mystery that was missing from VII. I teared up several times during this movie. Maybe it was because I didn't know much about it and was genuinely surprised, who knows. I had no- actually low- expectations going in.

    A few highlights, I'm sure I'll have more to say later after I've had time to see it a few more times;

-Nothing, and I mean nothing, makes me grin like seeing that classic SW logo and hearing the SW theme song play.
-Leia was magnificent. And clearly war-weary, but no one has suffered like she has and that's pretty clear. I'mill not sure if that moment of truth with Kylo's finger on the button was a blessing or a curse for her. It clearly gave me hope for him, but prolonged her suffering in several different ways. It may have been hokey but I did love seeing Leia defy the vacuum of space. Had a little training in the Force after all, I guess.
-Laura Dern as Admiral Holdo was superb. I remember seeing her in Jurassic Park and wishing I looked like that- &I had the same thoughts again!
-Kylo continues to fascinate me. He's still a boy but he's growing up. I can't figure him out, but I can see that there's more to him than the simple Dark Side bad seed.
-THe part in the cave where Rey asks to see her parents was genius. Not just the reflection back at herself- but the different Reys at slightly different points in time. It made me about time & perspective. Which is the real Rey? Did we just see time split? Which path will she choose? Is she really Rey Rando?
-Kylo & Rey fighting together- I don't know what to say except it seemed right. Despite the violence it was more like ballet. They're two of a matched set.
-I'm not normally much for battle scenes but there were some brilliant bits here with Poe, Holdo and Finn.
-Rose Tico "We fight to protect those we love, not just against those we hate." That just about sums up the difference between the Dark & Light sides of the force..
-When Luke walked out to meet Kylo. The look on the faces of the few remaining rebels was awe-struck, as it should be.
-The ending with the little proto-padawan and the broom that jumped the last inch or to into his hand- what a beautiful set-up for the next film. And a sweet little Easter egg, too. There were many great little moments like that in this film.

I could go on but these are the parts that come to mind right now. The story was a bit complicated but seemed to hold together very well. The characters hit all the right notes, the acting much improved and there was less perfect-Rey and more uncertain-Rey, especially in the beginning.

Worth a mention... the Rey/Kylo fight duo scene was pure magic... pure magic. As most have said, it was perfectly orchestrated poetry

I think that scene deserves its own thread. The first thing I thought of was the concept of slices of time from The Fabric of the Cosmos (a book & documentary about space-time, by Brian Greene). Basically, there is no past or future. Somewhere in the universe, what we think is past or present is actually happening now. It just depends on how far away one is from the source of the event. Mind-blowing stuff!

The part where she snaps her fingers is just surreal. The sound just adds so much to one's perception.
    --- Double Post Merged, Dec 17, 2017, Original Post Date: Dec 17, 2017 ---
This is the only unsettling thing about this movie- what's going to happen next. As @DeakStarkiller said, maybe this is it for me. There's a depth of feeling and a coherency of the story present in this movie that I haven't seen in anything JJA has done, obviously including TFA.

But I guess I'll watch this movie a few dozen times in the next couple of years and try not to worry about it very much!

OK @TheBBP my oldest son saw the books there at the end too....I missed them. Were they in the container that Finn took the blanket out of to put on Rose? Second viewing I need to look for that - also - need to LISTEN to the score too

She stowed them in a storage bin on the Falcon. Just so happened to be in the same drawer as the blankets that Finn needed lol.
