Yeah, Ford was just unimpressed with Han as a character altogether post ANH. There wasn’t much left for him to do with the role as an actor outside of flirting. He wanted Han to die in ESB and got the freeze job as a compromise. Other than accidentally instigating the sequence that leads to the angry teddy bears and trolling the Imperials into opening their backdoor (tee hee), Han doesn’t actually do much of anything in ROTJ. He just cracks wise and wears another cool jacket.

For me, his death would have been anticlimactic unless his significance to the events was ratcheted up. I suppose that could have been the focus of the second act instead of the tree fort adventure. Put more emphasis on his relationship with Leia so there’d be a greater sense of tragedy? I don’t know. The end was weighty enough for me with Vader’s death.

Personally, I think Han was misused in that movie. He’s the pilot of the fastest hunk of junk in the galaxy, not a bloody commando. He should have been on the damn Falcon, not leading a guerrilla offensive. Meh, oh wells.
Nah, just replace him with Lando :D

Yeah, but boy does he wear that jacket. You're right though, him and Leia for that matter are misused and show no more development really. Apart from the sibling revelation...Imagine some Han kamikaze action to swing the tide of the battle, I think there's something in that.

Wait, but I thought Lando was Snoke???

Nice joke . . . or not. I've always thought Ford and Fisher's performances in ROTJ were rather weak. Both seemed to be going through the motions. And to be frank, their romance in this film was a bit anti-climatic to me.

I know it goes against everything the story is about, but I really would have loved to have seen Lucas' early idea for the ROTJ ending with Luke putting on Vader's mask and taking his place as the Dark Lord of The Sith.

My solution is simple, and is also my answer to the original post.

I think they should have killed Lando.

Don't get me wrong, I love the guy but the rebellion suffers no major tragedy in their assault. It's the "super best friends" movie that just has everyone ending the saga in a Kodak family-portrait moment and I just feel it's ridiculously schmaltzy. If killing Han was such a heresy for Lucas, for merchandising reasons or not, then I argue I've never heard a single defence from him regarding Lando's merchandising ability. Killing off Lando not only provides a surrogate for Han in the death of a lovable rogue who learns to become a better person, but also gives the rebel victory some much needed gravitas that would have blended perfectly with Han's vague bad feeling about the Falcon; have Lando die in the gunner's position, a bit like Kirk at the start of Star Trek Generations with a "he was in here when it blew" retrospective discovery. He goes down a hero, makes up for his ESB treachery and gives ROTJ its much needed emotional weight for its third and final act.

I'd also have kept in the subplot of Jerjerrod and the emperor ordering him to fire on Endor, much to his dismay. That stuff is awesome; lets us see what a genocidal maniac Palpatine had become, give the heroes a ticking time bomb to prevent and most of all, we see camaraderie and conflict within the Imperial ranks and that they're not just mindless space nazis with English accents.

But I'm allowed just one; so kill Lando.

Two, and it's Jerjerrod's conflict and kill Lando.

I probably only change return of the jedi,I preferred it to be like the original idea, Han Solo sacrificed himself, Leia became a princess and luke a Jedi and I do not like Ewok's, I prefer Wookies

It's not that it is time with Jabba, it's what Lucas does with it. The pacing is completely off. The colours are bland and boring, and the dialogue is tremendously cheesy. Hey I don't like ewoks, but at least they are properly paced.

But then....who am I to complain when I compare all of this to the prequels :)

I've never considered that, and it works completely. Yes! I love the Jejerrod deleted scenes, actually humanising the Empire? It's only taken us 30+ years to get to this point.

Well, bar Piett of course, love that man.

Fetts death. And I always thought that the second Death Star was way to big, it looks like the super star destroyer crashes onto a flat surface, and the super star destroyer is BIG

Yes, more curvature of the DS surface model and a better impact explosion would have been nice. SSD is approx. 23 km long (based on the bridge width of the large conning tower model), diameter of DS II is approx. 290 km (based on equatorial trench height cross-referenced with high-res images of the VFX Death Star model), so there should have been some curvature.

I also wish that ROTJ had not focused so much screen time on Han's rescue. There was only so much of Jabba the Hutt's lair I could take. And quite frankly, I found Luke's plan to rescue his friend rather convoluted.

This is a change in retrospect of the 2004 special edition. I'm going to preface this by saying I completely understand that people will disagree with me on this. I would bring Hayden in, old age, burn, scar, and fatten him a bit and re-film the unmaking of Vader scene. I would also then go over Young-Anakin's ghost with an appropriately aged unburned Hayden-Anakin.
