ok, Luke is not the father. Mr. X and Mrs. X abandonded young Rey on Jakku because they thought they should have never had a daughter....that's good writing? :)

It depends of whom she's related ... Luke is a good guy, that's the difference.

Maybe her parents were weak poor people and they went in a trap. At least, they are not the most powerful being of the galaxy.

My point is that he build an academy and in the novels he seems to had dedicated himself to be the last jedi so by these hints, I think he applied the code ( it's my opinion ). Ben turned evil when Rey was already on Jakku for 10 years. There were no threat at this time, he had no reason to do that. Was Luke a seducer ? Well maybe but flesh, power and gold aren't the way of wisdom and that's why I talked about him being an impostor and a guru if he acted like that.

Did Luke felt to temptation ? I mean it's possible but it's highly hypocrite from him to pretend then to train younglings in the jedi way ? Isnt't it ?

But maybe he was and Ben discovering it was the deal breaker in his decision to turn against him.

I had one theory there ( which in my opinion was the only possibility ) for Rey to be his daughter and it was this one ( like the Pendragon thing ).

Snoke called Mother Talzin to make a magical potion and send a sister to Luke. She took the appearance of a nice young lady, very trustful and she drugged him with the potion and Luke went crazy during this night with the girl. It was all recorded in a holocron and the girl disappeared the next morning. She later had a baby and who knows what happened to her. Later, Snoke showed the recording to Ben showing his master was an hypocrite and Ben went mad and killed everybody.

I still think we don't know Rey's parents because they are a part of the plot of this whole trilogy and I'm quite sure we won't know in Ep VIII.

I think she's Luke's and "Mrs. Luke" that turned her over to "Mr. and Mrs. X" as a means to keep her safe (as happened to Luke and Leia), but then they abandoned her "in the Jedi/Force Church" community on Jakku that knew who she was and promised to make her anonymous because the "phony parents" were under pressure because they were being asked questions by the Empire.

There's that throw-away line in Aftermath: Life Debt that Palpatine was looking for something on Jakku. Obviously it was something Force-related, probably a Dark Side artifact. What if Rey was left there to mask her presence, or to maybe contain something that Palpatine was looking for?

I wasn't referring to him being a seducer but merely, say, taking advantage of an opportunity. If Jedi aren't required to be celibate, why would it be wrong for him to give in to his urges when an opportunity presented itself? As for causing Ben's fall, I was speaking more along the lines of Luke allowing attachments in his new order possibly being a factor in Ben's fall rather than Luke fathering Rey a decade earlier especially if Snoke told him that attachments were forbidden in the old Jedi Order or he found out some other way.

Maybe but I don't see it coming nor being satisfying as a plot.

Rey, I'm your father ! ( sounds old news )
    Uh ? Who's my mother ?
A girl I banged one night.

    ...

Sounds a lot like white trash in trouble ( South Park ) or The Jerry Springer Show.

My guess from the movie is that she comes from the dark side. The opening scenes symbols are hinting this.

Rey and Ben have two symetric path like their introductions scenes are symetric.

I agree that a random hookup probably wouldn't be a very good story which is why I think the mother will be his significant other or perhaps an ex-lover if he is her father but I was curious to see how you would view it in terms Luke of being a Jedi. Thank you for your thoughts. I understand where your coming from a lot better now. I've heard others talk about the symbolism of the opening scenes but Jakku isn't merely an Empire graveyard. There are a lot of Rebel Alliance ships there too so I'm not sure that really means anything.

@master_shaitan has a great theory on page 26, take a loot at it. Best one I've seen with Luke as the father and God knows he's not on that side.

The symbolism I talked is she's physically living in the empire's wrecks like she was coming from the ashes of the Empire and opposed to Kylo being on a dark scene with his origins from the resistance, Rey is having the opposite way. Very light scene and her origins are from the empire and going to the resistane but it's personal interpretation but I don't think it's a coincidence.

I checked it out. I've read it before and think it's quite good. I would have no problem with something like that. I understand what you're talking about with the symbolism but wouldn't Ben have needed to start out still in the light and say living at the resistance base then go dark in the movie for that to be accurate?

Interesting, and it definitely has some merit to it, I think.

That's why Lor San Tekka is talking of his origins right there. The first order rose from the dark side, you did not.

I agree things are starting to get testy here. We could all do well listening to Obi Wan

Obi-Wan: "Luke, you're going to find that many of the truths we cling to depend greatly on our own point of view."

You are exactly right. We don't know who Rey's parents are but we are all clinging to "truths" about Rey's lineage based on our personal points of view of the movie. That doesn't make any one opinion better than another because at this stage of the saga it Rey's lineage could go in any direction. It was purposefully written so it could be viewed from different points of view.

We should all relax and take a deep breath. This is a fun topic to debate but we should all respect any opposing opinions as none of us no for sure.

Yikes. So then we have to deal with:

    1. Luke's past - why het got married, had kids despite being a Jedi and how he lost his wife/kid
    2. Who is Luke's wife? Where did she go? Why did she leave her daughter?
    3. Who are the adoptive parents? Where are they? Why did they leave Rey on Jakku?

    It's just too much, Trev!

For me, if Luke is the father, then I believe that there will be a mirroring of what happened to his father - he thought his wife and unborn child were killed/he thought his wife left him and didn't know she was pregnant (but she was actually taken by or killed by someone - maybe Snoke or maybe Acolytes of the Beyond or maybe KoR).

Either way, for Luke to be the father for me he can't have ever met his daughter. Had he done so he would've had a bond and would've known she was dead. And Han and Leia would've known about her and realised Rey was his daughter very quickly. It has to be an utter surprise for Luke. This then explains why he never went looking for her.

LOL, well when you put it THAT way... :)

Look, there are two more movies in this trilogy, and this isn't something that has to be completely on the screen...maybe with a few short conversations to shed some light on it. Remember that there is the new "EU" that could explain all of this by someone like Zahn in a couple of novels...we wouldn't have to watch it on the screen.

To me, it could make a pretty riveting (and perhaps tragic story arc all of it's own...and I'd love to read it. :)

I'm going to say it again:

Jyn Erso and Captain Cassius WhateverHisNameIs will be Rey's parents.
Why you ask? Bullet point time:

    • Jyn is remarkably similar to Rey. Perhaps not a big thing by itself but when taking the proximity of RO and TFA/VIII into account and both having very similar female heroines...
    • What happens to the new heroes in RO? Maybe there will be a follow up but let's be frank - there is no mention of them throughout the OT. We must find out what happens to them (unless they all die which I doubt).
    • How do they create emotional impact in VIII or IX regarding the fate of Rey's parents? Let's say Luke is the father, but what of the mother? She's likely dead but we never knew her. But if her parents were the heroes of RO who we have grown attached to....then we could immediately empathise with Rey and her loss.
    • Benicio Del Toro. A Mexican. Like Diego Luna. And his age now would be very close to what Diego Luna's character would be in the ST(in his 50s). It looks like (to me) Jyn and Cassius could become romantically involved. And I always felt BDT would be her father.
There's more but I have to put my kids to bed

    Puerto Rican.

Why has everybody to be related with each other? Or a Skywalker? The galaxy made it through 1000 generations of Wars without Skywalkers.

Haha, oh sh*t! My bad. I just pulled a Trump and offended Mexican's and Puerto Rican's the world over!

But why should they be related? They don't have to be at all. I just figure RO makes more sense if it sets up characters who can add emotional depth to the saga films and have their futures resolved. I also thought BDT and Luna were both Mexican, so...yeah there was that!

I love this idea.... but haven't Pablo and Company been pretty dismissive of the idea? I don't think they've come right out and said no...

Maybe they want to keep people off the trail.
