Really not sure what's been said other than suggesting Rey isn't necessarily related to Jyn because they have the same accent.

I think it would be a sensible move. Add a lot of emotional weight to RO and the saga films.

John Knoll said he didn't know anything Rey when he came up with Jyn. “I’m a father with three daughters, and I felt it was time to have a really good, smart, resourceful, strong female character in the lead of a movie like this. I wrote that before I saw a treatment for Episode VII, so I didn’t know about Rey.”

Kathleen Kennedy has said about the Anthology movies: They aren't like Marvel and they aren't seeding characters: “George [Lucas] was so clear as to how that works. The canon that he created was the Star Wars saga. Right now, Episode Seven falls within that canon. The spin-off movies, or we may come up with some other way to call those films, they exist within that vast universe that he created….There is no attempt being made to carry characters (from the standalone films) in and out of the saga episodes. Consequently, from the creative standpoint, it’s a roadmap that George made pretty clear.” (January 17, 2014) “The Saga films focus on the Skywalker family saga. The stories follow a linear narrative that connects to the previous six films. The Force Awakens follows Return of the Jedi and continues that generational story. The Anthology films offer opportunities to explore fresh characters, new storylines and a variety of genres inside the Star Wars universe.” (October 2015) "Well the Saga films are primarily the soap opera centered around the Skywalker family. The standalone films can be a wide variety of genres inside the Star Wars universe, and they very definitely have a beginning, middle, and end. They are not being designed to necessarily build new franchises. They are really being designed as standalone movies which is fantastic for the filmmakers we bring in, and the actors we hire, because it’s a different sensibility. And the stories can fall pretty much anywhere on the timeline. There is no strict guidelines for what we’re doing." "Star Wars is very different than Marvel in that they basically build their stories around characters, and then they seed those characters in different stories. Star Wars you know is a place, it’s a universe, so those stories are constructed a little differently than Marvel." "It just so happens to be Rogue One is the precursor to New Hope and yes, this Han Solo idea, but I would not argue that we are setting up any kind of prequel notion with these standalone movies. I think that’s so far just coincidence. And to be perfectly honest, we have changed the order of those at the last minute, so that’s not the intention at all." (December 17, 2015)

Pablo Hidalgo has directly ruled out Jyn being Rey's mother, with the exception of Leland Chee who replied that he doesn't mind speculation about Rey's parentage.

If Jyn is Felicity's age, Jyn would be 47 years old when Rey is born. If Jyn is 7 years younger than Jones - a young girl during the time of The Clone Wars - she'd be about 40 when Rey is born.

It doesn't sound like little Rey - a little girl actress out of Mississippi - had an English RP accent for that matter...

So how did Rey get her accent? We can be pretty sure she did not have a close enough relationship with anyone on Jakku to pick up their speech. She might have deliberately affected the accent when she got older because she wanted to be different from everyone on Jakku. But I think it is most likely that this is the accent she started talking with. At some point she would learn, probably from being teased, that she spoke like some regler laydee, and at that point decided to maintain the accent. This would indicate that her primary caregiver before Jakku spoke the way the language should be spoken. Numbers here seem to greatly lean to the First Order/Empire, so that's where I'd look.

Well the easiest explanation is, that she lives over a decade on a planet with stranded imperials.

Mashra.* Ivano Troade.* Or maybe the unnamed people that thought Rey was their slave.* Maybe they had English accents.

I have to admit I'm not sure what's going on with the accents. Daisy Ridley was coached to use a posh accent that's typically used by people from the Galactic Core. How Rey would have grown up with that accent is a bit of a mystery. Or maybe accents don't matter in a fantasy series like Star Wars.

Well, perhaps if the Rey comes from the Imperial side and Kylo comes from the rebellion side theory is right, her heritage could be Imperial officer based?

I'm not really debating that.... it's that the accent would have been influenced by who she lived with on Jakku and not her parents. At five years of age her accent would have changed based on who she lived with on Jakuu.

Funny, you say that because if you watch and listen to the force back, 'little rey', has an American accent. Not that I'm reading too much into this. :p:D
For myself, my parents are from Europe and we don't have the same accent. I've developed the accent from my country, Canada. So, it's not necessarily your parents' accent, but the environment and language you are immersed in . So, if most people are Imperial, she may have developed that accent. Who knows.

The way I heard it, she was originally supposed to speak with an American accent but struggled with it so JJ had her use her natural accent instead.

First time I've heard that one. Would love to see the source for that. I'd be surprised if Daisy Ridley couldn't do an American accent.

Yeah I thought this was the case for Boyega but reversed? He used his British accent but they thought it would be better if he went American?

If the British accent is supposed to be a core world thing it makes sense that Finn would have an American accent like Luke and Han. Hux is from an imperial line so it makes sense he has a British accent.

Boyega said his British accent/voice was too sexy for Finn. He said they tried it out and it didn't really work.
