SPECULATION Romance - who falls for who in VIII?

Don't jump to conclusions, Rey may not be a Skywalker.

 

No romance, please! First of all, nothing will ever top Han and Leia so why even try? Second of all, I'm very fond of the idea of Rey following a Luke's footsteps and not have a romantic interest.

If we really really must, I would be fine with any of Finn/Poe, Finn/Rey, Rey/Poe, or either of them with new characters (male or female, don't care), I really don't have a preference and they are all cool people so go for it.

But if they go with Kylo/Rey route I am done, I literally won't want to hear the words Star Wars ever again. Just NO. He's creepy! It will be like Padme and Anakin but 1000000x worse.

I hate the word friendzone because it implies being friends with someone is a bad thing, but IMO throughout the whole movie Rey shows no indication of liking Finn as more than a friend. Kissing a dear friend, who is very sick, on the forehead when saying goodbye is not a declaration of romantic love. On top of that, what she says in that scene is "We'll see each other again. I believe that. Thank you, my friend."

But anyway, if they come back for episode VIII suddenly in love, I'll not be upset by that.

 

I'm not. I'm not fond of the whole "lone Jedi who cannot find love" ideal, or the "no attachments" nonsense in general.

As for Finn, again THEY JUST MET!! Do some people here not know how romance works or something? You usually don't immediately jump to romance after only like a day or two of knowing someone. Especially when so much else is going on around you. Heck they weren't even together fro the whole time either (she gets captured and is on her own for the end of the second act/beginning of the third). That doesn't mean that it will NEVER happen, just not right now.

 

I agree with Rey 24B, the most satisfying romantic relationships are those that build over time. We are just going to have to wait to see where things go. I hope there is some romance though...yes, I know that makes me cheesy...

I speculated a while ago that there will be something between Rey and Kylo.
I don't think they're related - let me get that straight.
I dunno, I could be well off and there is a lot riding against it but...

Trepidation flashes across Rey's eyes. Kylo Ren moves closer, his hand rising toward her. She recoils, but has nowhere to go. Kylo Ren nearly TOUCHES HER FACE...

THEY'RE BOTH SURPRISED: they react to a feeling that passes between them -- AN ENERGY THEY RECOGNIZE IN EACH OTHER.

And then it's gone. Adversaries again. Rey can't move, quietly strains in agony, trying to resist Ren's probing.



....I just have a feeling that something might happen.

 

From your keyboard to God's ears! The chemistry test is a good point, there is no indication Daisy ever did any with Adam. I now have a slim of hope.

 

Honestly I don't see why Luke would continue the whole no attachments or love for Jedi thing considering it was his love and attachment for his Father and his friends that allowed him to redeem Vader in ROTJ. So I definitely don't see why Rey wouldn't be allowed to have a love life and be a Jedi at the same time.

To be fair to Finn he was the first person to really show any concern and kindness to her as far as we know. He also attempted to rescue Rey from the First Order, even though she already rescued herself, and he defended her from Kylo Ren when she was knocked unconscious. By the end Rey seemed very concerned for Finn. Could they become romantically involved maybe, maybe not, but they definitely left it open as a possibility.

 

Just to clarify my previous post, I meant I like the idea of Rey being like Luke and not having a romantic interest in any of the movies. She doesn't have to live a life without love, I just personally don't need to see it in any of the movies. There are other more interesting stuff I would prefer watching.

 

I want Finn/Poe just for the tears it would cause. I mean, the same people who would hate that would hate Finn/Rey I'm sure, but could you imagine the internet drama of Finn/Poe being an actual thing?

 

It depends on the execution. For example the dialogue. Padme and Hayden's - Did Anakin and Padme even have their own ship name???- dialogue was intended to sound epic, but instead sounded like it came from a cheesy adult romance novel.

I can't see the risk of this happening again. Episode VII has so many great lines, is incredibly quotable, the dialogue between the characters is such magic to watch... the dialogue is vastly superior to Padme's/Anakin's dull drama.

Episode VIII may be a bit different than Episode VII because of an entirely new writing and directorial team but I do not think they would go back to the clunky dialogue of the prequels.

Another thing I have been thinking in the romance department, (I should be honest in that I've already admitted to being cheesy and liking romance in Star Wars), is that I've read some theories as to Rey being the new chosen one who has come to restore the balance in the force. Some would argue that Anakin almost succeeded when he killed the Emperor.

If Rey is the chosen one, I think it would be amazing for her to embrace her destiny and push aside romance for the greater good. It would make for good writing that she has feelings for one or more characters, she just won't allow herself to act on them...a mistake Padme and Anakin made.
