SPECULATION Romance - who falls for who in VIII?

Totally Agree. I predict Kylo Ren finds himself in great danger and Rey, sensing this, goes to find him. This would mirror Empire Strikes Back and Luke's insistence on abandoning training in order to save his friends but would also flip the theme on its head.

 

One could argue that is not balance. Choosing the path of no emotion is just as unbalanced as pure emotion. More likely it would be to straddle that line. To love like we do,in constant conflict, but never giving in to either fully.

Padme and anakin was less of an epic romance more of a shake shakesperian tragedy.

I think ,if they want to do romance with rey it would have to be along the lines of the movie romancing the stone. Obvious attractions but nothing that steals away from the main story. Only bits that add to it, or give a purpose to fighting beyond just fighting the good fight.

No, it would be really lame and cliché, Like I sad above, I HATE this cliché with a passion You know what's more interesting, her being able to embrace her destiny AND have a healthy romantic life and even family if she wants. What a novel concept, we don't get nearly enough of that in these types of stories.

Also, Anakin and Padme acting on their passions wasn't a mistake. The Jedi whole philosophy about "no attachments" was the mistake.

 

Hmm, interesting point of view. I hadn't thought of it that way. Maybe the Jedi philosophy wasn't practical and that was supposed to be the lesson.

 

Personally, it doesn't depend on the execution to me because I dislike it on principle. I just don't like the trope of "you (usually girl) can save this awful, murderer guy with the power of your love". It romanticizes abusive relationships and this kind of relationship has been sold to women as romance for way too long, I'd like star wars to stay away from that this time.

I could elaborate more on my feelings about this but I won't just in case the Devil hears it and make this couple true.

 

Agreed, I see a surprising number of people pushing for this. And frankly, it creeps me out every single time. What in their interactions so far has ANYBODY thinking romance? If anything, she has every reason to despise and detest him.

 

Here is what I don't get maybe someone can enlighten me... why are so many against Rey having a romantic connection with anyone?

 

TV Tropes suggests that Kylo is smitten with Rey (was it one of you rascals who put that up there?). I can see it- I don't know that I *like* it, but I can see it. Remember how their weapons were parallel on the movie poster? If it turns out that they aren't related, then . . . that symbolism probably doesn't indicate that they're going to wind up as heterosexual life partners like Jay and Silent Bob.

And I agree with what others have said: if Rey/Lo turns out to be something, then you run into the "love of a good woman" fallacy. Nobody can save Kylo but himself, and I'm not sure he's going to be alive at the end of episode IX- he's done some pretty unforgiveable things. Maybe it's Rey who kills him. "Kylo, I love you but you're an unrepentant psycho- EAT LIGHTSABER!"

 

I'm not against it, but I am open minded to either story line as long as it is written well.

 

I'm betting on Rey/Finn, I really enjoyed their interactions throughout the movie.
TFA managed to give the Finn/Rey relationship a strong foundation for the next movies to work with.

Rey and Poe on the other hand have never even interacted on screen yet. This means that Rey and Poe will have 2 movies to build a believable relationship while Rey and Finn have potentially 3 movies to work with.

I wouldn't look too deeply into Kylo/Rey (romantically speaking). It's complete fan fiction material and everyone knows it.

 

Shipping characters reminds me of my younger days with anime back in the late 90s.. good times..

I just had a thought...what if Rey is captured by Kylo again and taken to Snoke and she "sacrifices" herself mentally-speaking but ends up becoming delusional and falling for her captor so that she loves Snoke but Snoke could care less about her. She's snapped out of it by Por/Finn giving her "true loves kiss" (because, DISNEY) and then that's when she takes on the mantle of A True Skywalker .

Hmm, but you were ok with Luke saving his father, you wouldn't call that shipping an abusive relationship...?!? In the OT, Obi-Wan tries to convince Luke that killing Vader is the only way. It is Luke who insists upon finding the good in him and ultimately succeeds in this regard -against the advice of his former master.

I agree, toxic and unhealthy relationships should not be shipped. To make this work he has to overcome his internal conflict.

 

There will be a kiss in VIII because its the second film in the trilogy. Look at the second films in the two other trilogies:

Prequel Trology: Episode II AOTC: Anakin and Padmé kiss for the first time.

Original Trilogy: Episode V TESB: Han and Leia kiss for the first time.

Sequel Trilogy: Episode VIII: Rey kisses ? for the first time. Or possibly Leia gets over Han and kisses Lando for the first time.
